🐶🐶WOOF WOOF! It's been a long week, but here's a new episode of Where To Start, and to celebrate their 60th anniversary, we're looking at Marvel Comics first superhero family: The Fantastic Four! . Why not treat yourself to a book, and use our sponsor OrganicPricedBooks! Use code WOOFWOOF for $2 off your orders! . Hope you guys enjoy the video, some always disagree with my picks, but I just try to cater for as many tastes as possible. If you like it, give it a thumbs up, and make sure you're subscribed if you're new! A share would also really help as there's a lot of people who want to get into the Fantastic Four! . Got a bit more of a dumb video lined up next (even though they're all kinda' dumb), but have a great weekend, and until next time, stay Mad, Doggs! WOOF WOOF! 🐶🐶
Super helpful segment for the fantastic four and for other characters where I don't know where to jump on( I notice I seem to say this a lot.😂) The thing is I have been a comic fan for half my life (14 years) but seem to stick with the same few characters. It sounds like I am stuck in a rut. What am I 80.😂 Tom de falco is a underrated writer. I personally really enjoyed his Spider-Man run. One of my favourites. Seriously had a busy few weeks and your videos are the constant thing I always look forward to watching to take the pressure off a lot of stress going on at the moment. Fantastic video. Thanks for being a good mate.🙂 woof woof.
The FF are criminally overlooked and underappreciated. They are the first Superheroes of the Marvel Universe, and without them, there would be no Spider-man, Hulk, Thor or Avengers. They laid the foundation of Marvel and cemented Stan Lee and Kirby as stars in the comic book industry.
This is a weird way of saying Stan Lee and Jack Kirby era. There’s something special about Dr Doom leaving every issue he’s in like Team Rocket from Pokémon
I started reading marvel comics just about a year ago now and the first comics I read was the stan lee, Jack Kirby run and it was great I highly recommend
Hi Marcus, I would like to let you know I started reading comics about 2-3 years ago, and I started with Ultimate Spider-Man due to your recommendations. From there I read other ultimate comics, then shifted into 616 stories. Thank you for this type of videos, I think they really help new people to get into these characters.
Awesome video. I know what to share to family and friends who are curious about my love of Fantastic Four(My favorite superhero team). I'm glad you mentioned the Waid run of F4 because that is always my goto run I recommend people if they want to get a sense of the Four in a modern era without Hickman's stuff which that run is amazing to.
(Not sure if my earlier reply posted) Hopefully this can help them convert into Fantastic Four fans, Neil! And I'm glad you enjoyed the Waid run too! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Ultimate FF was wonderful Just recently aquired the OHC of that run and just need the Ultimatum Companion to finish it off. Absolutely loved this run. Yep, we do exist.
I love the ultimate verse. Hopefully one day they will bring it back. I know Cates has been using the maker more so hoping he will bring it back in some form.👍
It's finally coming back around haha! We've done our time having to hear all the criticism, but now it's getting the respect it deserves! :) Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
I've recently started reading my FF Epic collection vol 1 and I'm enjoying it so far I didn't know the thing was a pirate at one point I also liked the one where they go to that one planet and help them flee it after being shrunk and Mr. Fantastic sends them to a tiny planet so that they would be normal size there. 😁 Great vid as always 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯💯
I might have to do a 'Top 10 Weird Things That Happened To The Fantastic Four' video now haha! I'm looking forward to eventually diving back into silver age FF as well! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
A year late but... I'm a huge FF fan. My favorite team. The Human Torch is my favorite hero. List is pretty legit and I get what your saying about Ultimate FF being an entry point but, for me, despite that talent and as a fan of the Ultimate Universe I found UFF very boring. Also LOVED the Lobdell/Davis run which was sadly way too short but was happy Claremont was coming on board. However, This 30+ issue run was disappointing. The book read like Claremont was still pining for his old girlfriend (X-Men) and trying to turn his new one (FF) into his ex. Captain Britain Corps, child from the future, wanted to make Kitty Franklin's babysitter, alternate earth characters stuck on ours......depressing 3 years. The late great Carlos Pacheco happily surprised me when he took over after Claremont. solid.
This video was good timing as I’m just about to start a fantastic four read. I’m going to do Waid, Millar and end with Hickman. Might also try the galactus trilogy digitally to see if holds up for an older comic
I would love to see a Mark Waid top 10 video. This is a writer I keep hearing about on this channel that I have not read almost anything he has created.
I would love to do a Top 5 Notable Works on him, but he's still coming out with great comics and he may still bring out something else top tier :) I'm reading his Black Widow at the moment, so a review for that should be coming soon! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
BmansWorld It's my third favorite one but it is great. Also, Books of Doom is amazing. Easily my favorite Brubaker comic(and that's hard because he's written so many great comics) and does Doom so much justice.
I need to check out Books Of Doom! Never hear many people talking about it, but glad you enjoyed the Waid series! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
@@MaddoggComics oh u definitely should. The trade is out of print but i was able to nab the singles for a good price. It is honestly the definitive dr doom origin story.
I've started the Waid run based on your praise in an earlier video and its superb, I love Mark Waid (massively underrated) so why I hadn't tried it I don't know but thanks.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that some good came from this channel haha :) I just saw that you donated to my Kofi as well, and just wanted to say a massive thank you, Andy :) I'm using the money from there to hopefully bring out some merchandise by the end of the year, and I won't forget your support :) Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
The first FF omnibus was a bit hard to get through but man did it start to pick up around issue 20. Can’t wait to have all of these omnis in chronological reading order. FF seem to get some underserved hate especially mr fantastic, he’s just misunderstood in most cases. Great list though all of these are great jumping on points WOOF WOOF 🐶 👌🏻
Declan Mooney They are one of the most underrated superhero teams out there and really without them the Marvel universe as we know it wouldn't exist. Without the F4, the Kree, Skrull, Doom, Gallactus and a lot of the cosmic elements of Marvel wouldn't have come about. Heck, F4 also had the debut of key characters, like Black Panther. Overall, they are a great superhero team who are a byproduct of the 60s but have a timeless quality to them in that they are supposed to represent humanity's desire to explore and utilize science for the betterment of everyone.
@@DMM9619 its a shame they are not as popular and I never really hear anyone talk about the title anymore. I haven't read much fantastic four unless they've appeared in Spider-Man.
Same here, Declan, FF is one of the only Silver Age omni series I'm buying at the moment. I hate when people say it's boring, when some of the best writers have done runs and it's continually trying new, wacky things, so hopefully this video can help convert someone into a fan! But thanks for giving it a watch mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
I know this is a video on a marvel property but I recently discovered marvel unlimited and after being thoroughly disappointed that dc, image or other comic companies don’t have their own version of the service, your videos have been a real help as a sort of catalogue for the wider comic world, advising me on what I should buy and where. So thank you so much WOOF WOOF
Hi Marcus, I really enjoyed this video. I’m collecting all the FF omni’s, I only need Hickman run, and the reprints of vol 2, 3, and the new vol 4, and I hope we get a Byrne vol 2 reprint one day. Thanks Marcus
I'm finishing up Ultimate Marvel (my intro to Marvel, except for a bit of X-Men and Foolkiller) and I am coming out of it with FF right at the top of my to-do-list. Great timing Maddogg :D
Glad I timed this right, Hannah haha! Ultimate Marvel is so underrated, and I'm glad it got you into Marvel like it did for me! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Great video mate, as someone that's never read FF this was very helpful. Have you thought about doing a where to start for Loki now that the show is on?
No worries Nandhan, glad you enjoyed it! X-Men was one of the first teams I did a Where To Start on, so hopefully you will find that helpful! The video should be in the playlist :) Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF!
Thank you mate! I love their Power Rangers and Firefly comics, but I know I should read more from them haha, and I'm open to suggestions! Thanks for watching the video mate! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Can't argue with love for Mark fucking Waid; I have the 3 OHCs of this run. I really need to give it another read. It's sheer pleasure from start to finish. I'm not the biggest fan of Hickman's run. I thought it started strong but mid way through the second omnibus I kind of lose interest. And that's the softest sell ever on Dan Slott's run."It's just okay but it'll prepare you for better". I've been quite enjoying it. Looking forward to the second OHC. With fingers crossed. Good video Marcus.
Yeah, I feel the same about Hickman, definitely peaked in the first omni, but I still had a great time with it :) Haha, I can tend to overhype stuff, and I didn't want the run to take a nose dive and this be my downfall, so i thought I'd downplay it :P Thanks for watching the video, Tim! WOOF WOOF! 🐶
Great list thank you for including the Mark Waid Mike Weiringo run.... But you forgot the John Byrne run and the Walter Simonson run....no list would be complete without those two and nothing says cosmic than the story lines they wrote.
Here I leave two more options that are interesting, the first is Marvel Knights 4 by Roberto Aguirre Sacassa and the other is the run by James Robinson and Leonard Kirk. They are not very long and both have great drawings and very human representations of the characters. Greetings from Argentina.
Do you think you need to read annihilation omnibus before reading FF Jonathan Hickman omnibus Vol 2? Gem mint said so but I haven’t heard anyone else say it. Cheers.
I didn't read it first, but I didn't feel lost without it :) Maybe just have a read of an Annihilation summary and just enjoy :) Thanks for watching the video! :)
Jack Kirby did not do well over 100 issues he only did like 102 of course Stan Lee takes credit for everything so I guess he might have claimed to do that manny though?????
