When my grandma moved to the states she said she never wanted to go back to hawai'i because she said all she saw was her home being destroyed. There was no more beauty and aloha anymore. She passed away on December 31st 2016. I wish she was still here to see the whole world support hawai'i in these times, I'm sure she would be proud. Rest in peace and paradise grandma Fonoimoana...

I am 4th generation born and raised in Hawaii. Above all else, Hawaii is my heart and soul. I will forever be deeply in love with my Hawaii nei and I thank all of my brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, kumu, etc - Hawaii is so misunderstood and we were tricked by the mainland. We were never "10 years behind the mainland" - I live in California now and I finally understand that in Hawaii, we are DECADES AHEAD of the entire world in terms of community, connection to nature, pride in culture, and knowing who we are. To all my Hawaii people - STAND UP, we are leaders on this earth and especailly in these crazy times. Our childhoods, the hanabadda days, was our gift from ke akua. We were blessed to have grown up in the islands and I spread aloha everyday as much as I can. Its scary living out here in babylon surrounded by pilau people, but my Hawaii gives me the strength to REMEMBER what I was taught and to keep one foot in the sand. I am tearing as I read this because I know the Hawaii I grew up in is no longer there... Its only a memory now - but US, the people of Hawaii from the 80s-early 2000s, we need to keep our local culture going. The culture created by our elders is precious and unique. As a haole I was given the honor of becoming Godmother to 2 Hawaiian children. Chicago is my home but Hawaii is my heart. I feel the depth of sadness that has come with statehood . My heart is heavy for the Hawaiian people. I support whatever has to happen to give the land rights back to them.

On April 24, 2019 I was driving past the palace and this song came on. I stopped near the Kamehameha statue, I looked towards the room Queen Liliuokalani was imprisoned in then looked around and began crying to see what has become of our Hawaii nei. Seeing this video brought me back to that moment. That moment when I felt as if our Ali’i was crying for what has happened to their people. To see such passion and mana in this video left me speechless.

I'm swiss. In november 18 we visited the islands of oahu, hawai'i and maui. Before we went there, I planned our visit and discovered the culture of hawai'i. It's not only hollywood,surf and sunshine. No, there is so much more! I fell in love with the aina and as we flight back to switzerland, i almost cryed. Met so much gentle people, and I know, I live in switzerland. But I know, I'm hawaiian by the heart.... I know, I was only a guest for 3 weeks, and I hope, that the native aren't in anger with my words.

Hawaii deserves positivity and support! Spread love and honor our ancestors, malama i ka 'aina. TAKE ACTION and do your research to care and protect the 'aina and keep Hawaiian culture alive. Some may hold a grudge and bitterness against "foreigners" but that's not going to change the past or what shit is going on now. I'v met a lot of non-Hawaiians born in Hawaii and people from the mainland who immerse themselves in the culture and work at cultural sites to keep the stories and culture alive. There's parks, arboretums, botanical gardens, fishponds, forest where conservationist and volunteers from the community that are doing their best to protect sacred sites and bring native plants back to restore the real Hawaii and share the culture with others. Yea, it could be better but at least there's people out there trying and there needs to be more people like that.

Hawaii has changed so much in my own lifetime. I grew up in Honolulu through the late 60s and seventies, and then went to University of Hawaii Manoa. Great times. Now there's homelessness and more violence and drugs. Its sad. But there's also more of an appreciation of what it means to be Hawaiian- the traditions, culture, history and land. I hope so too. On my trip in the Big Island I got to see the protest in Muana Kea. Locals are fighting to protect the sacred burial grounds but America wants to build another observatory there for University of California and Cal Tech research... As a UC alumni, I am sad to see me school supports something like this. I think if this situation spreads more awareness online, a lot of students in California will help protest against this too.

Truly touched to see this beautiful collab. I love this song growing up and man seeing how times have changed on the island. Being born and raised, I see how terrible the land is being taken away. With new buildings, houses, rail, etc. Not only that but the people who have come to live and visit the island. Some have come to live and disrespect the island by leaving trash, graffiti, destroy the nature and wild life. And those who come to visit have no class but to do the same. I am Caucasian, lived on the Big Island, Makapala, for 18 years. From the very beginning I tuned in to the history, the depth of the spirituality and culture, as much as I possibly could being an outsider. And maybe I had lived there before in another time. I cannot listen to this music without sobbing because I remember all the feelings and they are alive inside of me although I am not there now. When my grandma moved to the states she said she never wanted to go back to hawai'i because she said all she saw was her home being destroyed. There was no more beauty and aloha anymore. I am a Alaskan Inupiat, "Eskimo". I was on top of the Mt. on my Christmas break I cried an ended up sobbing like I was in a funeral, I felt an heard the elders crying. I am 4th generation born and raised in Hawaii. Above all else, Hawaii is my heart and soul. I will forever be deeply in love with my Hawaii nei and I thank all of my brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, kumu, etc - Hawaii is so misunderstood and we were tricked by the mainland. We were never "10 years behind the mainland" - I live in California now and I finally understand that in Hawaii, we are DECADES AHEAD of the entire world in terms of community, connection to nature, pride in culture, and knowing who we are. To all my Hawaii people - STAND UP, we are leaders on this earth and especailly in these crazy times. Our childhoods, the hanabadda days, was our gift from ke akua. We were blessed to have grown up in the islands and I spread aloha everyday as much as I can. On April 24, 2019 I was driving past the palace and this song came on. I stopped near the Kamehameha statue, I looked towards the room Queen Liliuokalani was imprisoned in then looked around and began crying to see what has become of our Hawaii nei. Seeing this video brought me back to that moment. That moment when I felt as if our Ali’i was crying for what has happened to their people. To see such passion and mana in this video left me speechless.

I'm swiss. In november 18 we visited the islands of oahu, hawai'i and maui. Before we went there, I planned our visit and discovered the culture of hawai'i. It's not only hollywood,surf and sunshine. No, there is so much more! I fell in love with the aina and as we flight back to switzerland, i almost cryed. Met so much gentle people, and I know, I live in switzerland. But I know, I'm hawaiian by the heart.... I know, I was only a guest for 3 weeks, and I hope, that the native aren't in anger with my words.

I'v met a lot of non-Hawaiians born in Hawaii and people from the mainland who immerse themselves in the culture and work at cultural sites to keep the stories and culture alive. There's parks, arboretums, botanical gardens, fishponds, forest where conservationist and volunteers from the community that are doing their best to protect sacred sites and bring native plants back to restore the real Hawaii and share the culture with others. Yea, it could be better but at least there's people out there trying and there needs to be more people like that.

Hawaii has changed so much in my own lifetime. I grew up in Honolulu through the late 60s and seventies, and then went to University of Hawaii Manoa. Great times. Now there's homelessness and more violence and drugs. Its sad. But there's also more of an appreciation of what it means to be Hawaiian- the traditions, culture, history and land. As a UC alumni, I am sad to see me school supports something like this. I think if this situation spreads more awareness online, a lot of students in California will help protest against this too.

No matter how many times I watch this video, I always manage to cry. Those tears are tears of injustice and pain for our Polynesian family. Hawai'i and all the islands are more than a place to take your family for a vacation. They have been robbed of their culture and life. But no matter how much of our culture they take, Polynesia is strong.

My generation and the younger generations of Maori are really starting to see and challenge and make noise about the injustices we see and feel towards our people, which are the effects of colonization

Truly touched to see this beautiful collab. I love this song growing up and man seeing how times have changed on the island. Being born and raised, I see how terrible the land is being taken away. With new buildings, houses, rail, etc. Not only that but the people who have come to live and visit the island. Some have come to live and disrespect the island by leaving trash, graffiti, destroy the nature and wild life. And those who come to visit have no class but to do the same. Its terrible, its sickening; and the countless times the natives fight and remind who the land and islands truly belong to goes strong but those who don't belong never truly takes it to heart or listen. I am Caucasian, lived on the Big Island, Makapala, for 18 years. From the very beginning I tuned in to the history, the depth of the spirituality and culture, as much as I possibly could being an outsider. And maybe I had lived there before in another time. I cannot listen to this music without sobbing because I remember all the feelings and they are alive inside of me although I am not there now. The capacity to feel the land on which I lived and walked, is not something I experience any more, and it is truly missed. I hold a lot of that in my heart still. Thank you, Mahalo.
I feel so much for this song. It made me realize that we are changing so much and I am so happy that we are making a stand. Our islands are changing so fast and much of the culture is disappearing. I praise this song as it reflects not only Hawai'i but the islands that we call home. Maybe at one time, we have cried for what we have lost, but if you look with open hearts, like the lyrics say "and in yet you'll find Hawaii". Be righteous. Be pono. Live with aloha and in that righteousness, the life of the land, our people, our culture is truly perpetuated.
