CHAOS at Banbury Station when 68014 failed.

  • I was stuck outside Banbury station for about twenty minutes, the train manger said sorry for the delay which is due to a broken down train.
As the 68 had failed on platform 3 they were using platform 2 for the southbound trains so the hold up was trains crossing over the up and down lines. 15/06/2022

That is what privatising the railways does for us, years ago there would be a loco a lot nearer, you get GBRf locos in the yard at Banbury but I don't there was one there, plus I don't think you could use one to recue it Colin.

Even pre-privatisation I’ve known plenty of instances where it’s taken hours to remove a failed train, generally if they can work around it (as they can here) there is no rush to get things moving again

      I couldn't agree more - well said!!!
In 1970 that would have been dealt with, using spare train crew & traction, within 20 minutes max.
AND: there would have been someone readily available to couple.
NOW: taxpayer is paying aggregate 38% more subsidy (Net) per fiscal year compared to taxcyear end 1979, out of line with GDP, for a crap dysfunctional railway that's the laughing stock of the world railwayadministrations.
      VERY VERY SAD.

The other week, a 68 failed while going up Old Hill, everytime the driver applied power, the engine cut out. Eventually after well over an hour the loco struggled to Rowley regis and the train was put in the sidings. The spare 68 was then sent from Wembley to collect the train. Until they removed the down bay platform there was normally a rescue loco sat in it, would have been of use here. Freight trains are routed via platform 1 as there are loops further up, this also allows platform 2 to be worked in the up direction.

from what ive heard theyre not great, since theyre typical modern stuff, complicated, over-engineerd, all digital and built to extremly low tolerances. and as a result they require specialist maintainence so theyre not quick to fix either, unlike the rest of the DRS kit that can be fixed in a matter of hours

    Doesn't look very chaotic......
......just passing trains through 1 & 2 instead if 2 & 3 as normal which the new track layout is perfectly capable of handling.......
........you were probably held outside 20 mind due to temporary block because of personal on the track between platforms attaching the recovery loco!!!

There was nobody on the track when my train and other in front of mine as the rescue loco was holding all the trains up waiting to cross lines, because the southbound trains were using platform 2.
Things got easier when the rescue loco crossed over lines Ian.

Stadler diesels never seem to catch a break, do they? Especially salting the wound considering they're dual-mode.
