    My vote goes for black out. Looks great with that dark red. Tiny bit of shine with the bridge pickup, but it'll take in the hue of the pickguard. Looking forward to the results!

    I think that black tuning machines and Vega Trem is better option, in the same color of pick guard. It’s will be a cool guitar.

    I just finished almost this exact same project! mine is an EG 112 C (?) I found for $60 w/a dead humbucker
    ..I went with a generic beefy brass claw + an aftermarket brass block on a BLACK Wilkinson WPV6 bridge...a 'copy' of the PRS style trem bridge, I added a set of graph tech white Tusq saddles that each had to be hand sanded on either side evenly to narrow them and make them fit (!)..but the white saddles in the black bridge on a black guitar looks trick, and works awesome. I love that floyd bridge....but I say go black..I ended up swapping in a set of black gotoh tuners I've had for 30 yrs off an RG550, a blqck roller string tree, ( graph tech tree standing by...) & I experimented with bone and graphtech blanks, I blew my nut at least 1ce had to start over.. I decided to just do the electrics myself old school and save $125.... all new pots, cap and switch, push bk wire, custom made PG and trem. cover, full shielding, switch craft jack... I went with a Generic humbucker for now, a SD SSL-6 rwrp middle and a dragonfire Area 52 neck and it sounds pretty damn sweet.. finally I drilled out all the inlays and Installed 6mm turquoise dots instead...it's a black and white guitar, needed a touch of color... Looking fwd to following this build.. stay warm and we'll!!

  • @ediek8048

    I am delighted that you are getting to the Pacifica mod. I have been waiting for it. I love the Yamaha Pacifica: I have four of them. They do have a unique feel on both the body and particularly the neck: very different from a typical Fender product. I find them much more comfortable to hold and play. As you mentioned, the choice of aftermarket parts is not as plentiful and I most appreciate your effort in tracking down what can be used. I can add a tuner choice: My impression is that the stock OEM tuners are by PING and an upgrade is to use PING branded tuners which have the same footprint but are beefier/taller than the stock ones. They are not locking but are more stable and come in black and gold as well and are a less expensive upgrade. You should have mentioned that after market pickguards in SSS and HH configurations are also available on ebay in many colors. The trickiest upgrade was the bridge. I tried Fender of all kinds - Asian, MIM, & US - and none those will work, so I'm real happy you found some choices. Now, if we could only find a jack plate replacement for that plastic one? Great work. Sorry I didn't win it, but I have my four.

    Darrell, at last! A great Pacifica 112J project that is long overview. The Pacifica 112J is a great foundation to upgrade as I've done over 20 Pacifica 112J upgrades. LEFT HANDERS BEWARE!!! The stock tuners on a Left Handed 112JL only use a single mounting pin (the same part as some Squiers) and unfortunately Sperzel locking tuners will not drop straight in as the single mounting pin on a Sperzel does not line up with the mounting pin hole on the Pacifica neck. You will need a drill. A Fender MIM PW29 trem with full size Zinc sustain block WILL fit the Pacifica as the string spacing is 52.4mm and the screw mounting is also 52.4mm, the same as the Pacifica, Aria STG, etc. You Right Handers can also get Steel, Brass or Zinc sustain blocks in 52.4mm string/mount screw spacing. Us Lefties need to find someone to commission a Steel sustain block, like Wudtone who make 1018 grade Steel sustain blocks and trem systems. All my left handed Pacificas all have Wudtone trem systems with Steel sustain blocks, but you right handers have more options and less challenges. As for colour of your hardware, Black? Chrome? There is no wrong answer, so just go with what you fancy on the day.

    I am modding my Pacifica too in these days, I have the 112V version. Still waiting for the DiMarzio pickups to arrive, I have already put on locking tuners, new tremolo bridge, done some fretboard finishing and other minor aestethics upgrades. I have found that the Pacifica has one of the best neck I have ever played and the body is very confortable, great base for modding.

    • @low_effort_Q1
      @low_effort_Q1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree on the neck! Can you specify which parts you went for exactly, especially for the bridge? I just looked up the prices of Darrel's mod and I think I'll have to find some alternatives there...

    • @arcam4981
      @arcam4981 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@low_effort_Q1 for the tremolo bridge I used the Alnicov you can find on Amazon (I cannot put the link here). For pickups I chose DiMarzio AT-1 (Andy Timmons) at the bridge and Injector DP422 (Paul Gilbert PUs) at neck and middle positions

    Just my two cents. I'd avoid to sand the edges of the Pacifica fretboard, it might be rough, but the yamaha fretboard is already quite narrow and it's quite easy to push the strings over the edges, in particular the low E (I know , I'm far from being the best player around 😁) . That little extra wood you are going to sand away might accentuate that behaviour. I sort of did the same changes on my pac 112v, anyway, but on the cheap. Bought me a Wilkinson vintage style trem (Mexican strat spacing, only the two external holes need to be relocated) which definitely improved the tuning stability, then added a hss Wilkinson setup since I wasn't so fond of the original alnico pickups. I think they lack in character, while the Wilkinson are really versatile, and the single coils are really twangy, which I like. Added a graphtech nut, and left the stock tuning machines which I think are decent (and haven't found suitable cheapish locking tuners yet 😅).
