      Hey man love your content.
      I also have a travel sax its a great device and its good if you travel a lot by train or on an airplane. But I find it really hard to play with a metronome because of the latency. And it is really hard to play cleanly at a fast speed. So I only use it if I start to learn a lick in all twelve keys. My advice would be if you have 600$ laying around go for it otherwise wait until the 2nd generation of these.

    I've been saving up for an EWI more for being able to practice silently than to perform with, so I got very excited at the beginning of the video. At this price, though, an EWI is simply a much better investment to me, even though it feels less saxophone-like. Still, it's a super-interesting product and I look forward to seeing where it goes.

    Personally I'd like to see a full sized saxophone (at the very least alto size) that accepts regular mouthpieces and is electronic so the sound can only be heard via headphones. Something that allows all the needed development of playing a regular saxophone but can do so silent to one's neighbors.

Is the TS's key mechanism robust enough to play Donna Lee / Confirmation, etc. on? I just want it for silent practice. I've played saxophone for 47 years and have original EWI 1000 / 2000, WX-5. Thanks for a great review. I am eager to hear your thoughts on the Travel Sax 2. I have an early original Travel Sax, and agree 100%-200% with your list of con’s. I played mine about once, it seemed super fragile/spongy and I was afraid I was going to break off a printed part in the process of taking it out of the case. The 2 looks like it has beefier keys, but I hesitate to invest more money finding out. I hope you go first! :-)

  • @thedefectivememe
    @thedefectivememe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Although this instrument is cool, I feel that it's purpose can be ultimately defeated by the fact that since it's sound is purely electronic, and the presence of a saxophone mouthpiece is simply to make the user feel as though they are playing a saxophone, without caring about any of the things required by a traditional saxophone to sound good (By this I mean, good breath support, proper embouchure control, voicing, the list goes on) It could lead to the potential user developing bad habits, that could ultimately hurt their playing, instead of help. That is of course if the instrument is used for it's advertised purpose to "Practice on the go", if used as an EWI/Wind Synth, and not used as a practice tool, this is honestly a really cool piece of kit.
    TL:DR Ramble about how I think that this should be advertised as a travel EWI with saxophone like fingerings, instead of a travel practice tool

We can use both normal headphones or bluetooth. I was just really surprised that there are phones without a plug-in, this ist the dumbest thing I´ve ever seen, why would people invent something like this?

Anyone wishing to use headphones with the newer iPhones need a very small adapter cable... its about 3 inches long.. one end receives the audio mini plug and the other end plugs into the charging port on the iPhone. Its not a big deal at all.

      Emeo is a good choice. It is a wind controller and has no onboard sounds. It has a lot of bells and whistles it resembles a soprano sax without the extended bell and all the keys are positioned as an acoustic sax. Comes with a lite version 30 to 40 sounds that can be loaded and played on PC or MAC. Generous discount to upgrade to full version. Emeo is an awesome digital wind control practice horn but it is expensive. All depends on how much you don’t want to be excited from your neighborhood and be able to practice anytime anywhere. Build quality is excellent!!

    Nice idea. But you actually only develop your fingering skills, there is no such thing as build up and strengthening of your embouchure. MIght as well buy yourself a curved soprano, almost just as portable at hardly half of the price and get the real saxophone experience. and if that is too loud learn to play soft (great for building your embouchure) and/or put a cloth in the bell.

      For size yes but none of those can be played in silence and many folks find them very loud with a piercing high shrill tone quality

      @@robertp2934 A soprano or sopranino are real saxophones and sound great compared to that plastic thing, they can also be played softly if you try. To me that plastic toy does not even sound like a saxophone and I'm not impressed by the bells and whistles.
