I am in zone 8a and it is tempting to get started but I remember that March can still bring snow. 80s one day and snow the next, so I wait and I got online calendar for my area from farmers almanac. That being said I am attempting inside seed starting for tomatoes, squash, salad plants under grow lights.

Some will not agree with this, but I don't spray the yard for weeds and let the dandelions and clover flourish (And I don't want the chickens exposed to the pesticides anyway.). These are great pollinator-attractant flowers. The dandelions, especially, are vital for bees in early spring when little else is blooming yet. I love the buzz of the first wild bees when they come in the spring. And I utilize the dandelions myself for tasty jelly!

Considering my situation at age 72, I decided on canned meals. Yes, there is more salt in the cans than we should have, but there are ways to cut the Na level down: rinsing or adding to rice or noodles that are unsalted.
If needed we can eat right out of the can without cooking. (I know that som folks may disapprove- but , I know ho wmuch I can handle without telling all.)

Then I taper off and fill them once or twice a week. They will supplement with buggers in the yard and garden. Took a few years' observation but it seems to work. 😊

We’re blessed to live in northern Florida and have a slight jump on planting our garden. Elderberries do well here and are really starting to burst out. It’s amazing what we’ve been able to save by growing our own produce. Thank you Patera for your videos and insights of our current times! Keep it up!

Our last date for frost is May 15-22; the first year I moved here (SW Nebraska) I had seeds in the garden before April 15th, and had a terrific garden - despite a drought over the summer! Well, we're in a drought again - not nearly enough snow to recover from an extremely dry summer last year - so I'm in hurry-up-and-wait mode!

Hi Patara, about your little peach tree. I know it’s going to be really painful, but you should remove all, if not most of the blooms if this is the first year since it was planted. That gives the roots the energy to help the tree get better established.

Trees usually don't die unless they have a water shortage or are killed by chemicals. I don't like culling trees unless it is absolutely necessary. Dead trees are dangerous. May 15 is usually a good time to start planting here, depends on the weather We have peaches in our area near sea level, peaches usually take more than one year to mature here in our country {Canada} I do not start from seed I plant bedding plants

It's so helpful to see someone like you saying I'm going to focus on these things and not that, and that your going to do things as You see fit.

Trim back about 1/3 of the blooms off the tree, and if the weather looks like it’s going to turn ugly and cold, put a trash bag over it and tie it off. A black trash bag because it will attract to the heat.

Any animal that leaves little round pelleted droppings can safely go on the garden - this includes llamas and alpacas, as well as deer. I happen to know someone with llamas - and they tend to all go in one place, making it convenient to collect the droppings.

I love how you watch out for your gardening. I do a small garden in beds. Some years things seem to grow so well and other times I have nothing growing. I know one year I over water my tomatoes and I drowned them. There were some small shoots that I saved and planted them in another raised container and told God these are yours and I just let them go. God is a much better gardener than I am and I had ripped tomatoes all the way up through the first frost in late October. I did pull off some of the green tomatoes and wrapped them in newspaper and was eating God’s ripe tomatoes in December. I grew squash last year and did not get any but got a few potatoes and they last me for a few weeks. So you can see that my gardening skills are not very good. If I every do get a good harvest, I plan on sharing with my neighbors. I have tried canning but that is not my cup of tea. God bless you Patara and your precious family. I will enjoy watching you and how your garden grows. Your friend in Harriman GaGa ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸💒🚜🐣🐰🐈‍⬛ 🐕 🐮🙏🙏🙏🥰
