    All the writing industries have already been destroyed by DEI. Newspapers? Magazines? Books? Films? Not ONE industry can publish anything without DEI approved writers, content, and editing. They have destroyed their quality over absurd demands and consequently are losing money. It's done. This is NOT in question, the question is what can be done about it?

      Dump the DEI obsession, keep the drive for developing diversity ACROSS THE BOARD (including for white people, because the ACTUAL description INCLUDES them as well). That way, you get QUALITY AND INCLUSION, it's not forced, it's earned because of the stairway (and time/effort and projects everyone has to be involved in to develop their craft) everyone has to climb to success and you keep the lot out that don't contribute anything (and do nothing but clog up the system with zero/low-energy efforts). THAT is how you do DIVERSITY right, and benefit from the process as well.

      Also, remember when actors and actresses used to LOVE their job and used to prank each other endlessly on set, or did legendary crazy stuff on and off set as a way of bonding with their colleagues to make the job easier to do? i also dont take this movie as woke in that way. sure the ratio of white to non-white was out of balance, but most of the diverse characters were side characters. the mom was a plot point to set the story in motion, the daughter was the only diverse main character. the fbi partner dude was... there.
      and this was a movie they could put in more diverse actors without ruining it, i dont think this was an adaptation that was ruined by replacing white with non-white characters.

    If an 18 year old white heterosexual male from the midwest with no connections to anyone in the entertainment industry whatsoever decided that he wanted to pursue a career as filmmaker, I would advise him against it. Not because of lack of effort, talent or persistence, but because he would be denied any chance at making a career for himself in this new age of Hollywood. His work would go unread, un-watched and rejected before it would ever be judged on the merits or quality of the work itself. This also applies to the independent film world just as much, as financiers and distributors have also become just as guilty in participating with DEI.

    • @sigmacademy
      @sigmacademy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      They can STILL make movies, they will just have to find different ways of marketing and distributing said films, because mainstream will NOT help them... and that might actually be better for them - they are not beholden to the studio system like studio filmmakers or industry trades are. They are free to tell a story in EXACTLY the way they want to, they are FAR closer to the community they make stuff for (no research companies necessary), they can make movies that include subject matter that the audience are actually familiar with/or can learn to appreciate and they can build a direct relationship with their customers. Some TH-camr film channels have made concepts, trailers and short films with MILLIONS of views and many positive reviews, something not even the STUDIOS can match them in.

    If only a gay person is qualified to talk about gay issues, then that is all they are qualified to talk about; if only a Asian person is allowed to talk about Asian issues, then that is all they are allowed to talk about. It would be inappropriate for a Black woman to discuss the life of a White man. Our common humanity is irrelevant, it contributes nothing to our understanding of people outside our group, or so we must believe. How many artists are happy to be constrained this way? When you guys were picking apart the editing of the article you wrote, it's 100% more relatable than the Mary Sue's being written because of the influence of DEI. We all had our human qualities, that includes the moments looking back and seeing the flaws in ourselves and wanting to improve, people are dying for those kind of characters. The industry focuses too much about the stereotype of struggles people of different categories go through, and there is a lack encouraging to overcome those struggles but to reinforce just how unfair the world is. DEI seems to celebrate dividing us into the boxes they say we don't have to stay in, resulting in characters that act more like a robot that is supposed to be a pat on the back of representation.
    The irony is that it shows how disconnect DEI about being a person, and that's why more and more people have stopped caring about the Hollywood industry.

And now they just give work to anyone who's a minority and has written anything (not even comics) and they produce talky books lacking structure. They don't know the art of guiding the reader across and down the page. All that expertise came from experience and from editors who worked their way up to that, and now editors are people who would prefer to be working in other media. There's still good in places, don't get me wrong, but there's a reason this industry has been dying for a while.

Which is bizarre, since some of their biggest number of disposed titles are political and "social movement" based titles - so they buy stuff knowing they will simply throw them out later.
      Also, they got rid of most of the old female written fantasy and sci-fi titles at my library YEARS ago (which are some of the best fantasy and sci-fi content they ever had) - been trying to scoop up such titles whenever the library sold them off.

I can claim latino heritage to get in the door but I look white and that's enough to get the looks that tell me they're not interested. It's frustrating because I have literal piles of scripts that I can't get read because I'm not a WGA member and I'm not a WGA member because I know they'll never let me past where I already am, so why legitimize their policies by trying to join up? I'll produce some of my work on my own but have no idea how to break out in an industry that's actively trying to stop me. I'm proud of my heritage on both sides of my family but hate the racism and misandry that will make the goals of a lot of talented and hard working people more challenging than it needs to be.

    The more I see and hear, the more I feel there is a deliberate nature to what has happened to all our cultural art forms. I was involved in activism politics in the mid 2010s and I was taught these Woke principles the WGA are adopting. They originated out of an ideology of cultural Marxism/neo-Marxism. I can't help but think there is something more pervasive at work under this, but the arts and pop culture were the first to fall to it. I left the activist groups because of this years ago.
    There was an unspoken agenda baked into the ideology that was meant to creep into and dismantle the pillars of "Anglo/Western" culture.
    As a lover of film and the arts, thank you thank you thank you for exposing this when others could not. This gives me hope the entire rot of the ideology will finally be exposed before it is too late.

    • @sigmacademy
      @sigmacademy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The thing with ACTUAL activism, though, is that it DOESN'T NEED to rely on lies or manipulation. The activist who has TRUTH on his or her side, will be proven correct in the end, regardless of whether people agree with him or her, or not. That is why we call people who rely on pure fabrications "activists", because they play pretend they are activists when they are not.
      The agenda you are talking about, also has this critical blind spot in that it refuses to acknowledge its own ideological flaws or mistakes, which is why it will continue to fail regardless of WHICH century it is pushed or adopted. They can't fix a leaking ship when they refuse to acknowledge there are cracks in the hull and water is flowing in.

      @@sigmacademy Absolutely. I was doing disability rights works involving healthcare access and this ideology began to infiltrate. I wanted to focus on EMPIRICAL MEDICAL DATA and actual disease treatments, and people started making it about identity politics. I went as an advisor for "equity" on a local hospital panel and the first two meetings were about the history of slavery in America. I'm not kidding.
      It made no sense, and I can tell you that nobody was "solution-oriented" in those spaces. It was "revolution" (but a fantasy idea of it) oriented. I was too pale and stale to be taken seriously even though I checked enough boxes on that WGA form to win an Oscar for existing. lol
      The "activists" have ruined real activism now. After the pandemic surged, so many disabled people got screwed over medically and financially, but if anyone tries to advocate for their rights people think there is Woke fuel behind it. The Woke are showing their hand in Hollywood right now w the anti-Semitism after Oct. 7. It will continue to reveal itself.

If this was a company, just these documents would get them in trouble, now, forcing DEI training could lead to problems, especially if this training was reviewed by outside legal counsel. However, since this is a guild, the rules may be different, but they are part of the hiring process, so should have some oversight. I think a complaint can be filed with Better Business Bureau, along with other federal institutions, people are protected against discrimination on bases of race, religion, sex, etc. I would expect they will be sued eventually, possibly even a class action lawsuit, should be interesting.

Apart from the equipment requirement, there's ZERO barrier to entry on that front.
      Also, LGBTQ independent media predated Hollywood by more than a decade, and it is STILL better than anything Hollywood tries to make in that sphere (not to mention, it was ALSO made by members from those communities, so the current lot has no excuse for having access to WAY more resources and failing to make use of it properly). We ALL told them this would be the end result for YEARS - all they had to do was ORGANICALLY work on expanding the diversity of their talent on all fronts and it would have yielded EXCELLENT outcomes for everyone involved. All that this forced process did was open the door to MORE gatekeepers and making the barrier to entry even HARDER than it originally was.
      It also pretty much locked ANY normal, non-political person out of Hollywood permanently. And some part of me doesn't consider that a loss, because it just means that better media will be found AWAY from an industry known for trying to control its creatives in ways that have hurt their end products for DECADES now. There's a reason why people have always found the non-studio made media appealing, and Hollywood has ALWAYS been trying to catch up with independent media, because independent media doesn't have to listen to studio notes, test screenings or be limited by studio mandates.

      @@markpostgate2551 Right. Certain works definitely target specific audiences, but that doesn't mean artists who would be in those audiences can't write for a different one. There are books that are for black audiences, but that doesn't mean a black author shouldn't write whatever the hell they want.

    DEI is the worst example of NON-creativity, that was literally broken down by SouthPark in the panderverse episode: Rewrite all previous wildly successful stories, but apply the equity % rules for representation… exemplified by Cartman as Kathleen Kennedy… “PUT A CHICK IN IT AND MAKE HER GAY, AND LAME!” Zero creativity at Disney since the pandemic.

    The reason I recommended Dr. Catherine Liu to look up is because She was interviewed about something similar to this info by Jimmy Dore. (Whether you fully agree with him or not he’s HIGHLY critical of both parties) it could be informative.

    I miss the times when white men were allowed to be heads of the industry, got to tell the stories they wanted to tell, had as much white people as they wanted in their stories, and wrote any character they wanted. And if you’re honest- you do too. It was what we all grew up on. In 1960, this country was 90% white. There was a culture and respect for the past, just like many other countries around the world. The Hollywood industrial complex, along with the corporate sector now vilifies and reprimands masculinity and whiteness. I hope the power structure turns to dust as soon as possible. It needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

    Film and TV is not Hollywood or Bust anymore.
    It hasn't been for over 40 years.
    Right now, _today,_ an ambitious man could go to Dubai and set up shop in one of the Freezones there. Office, studio, editing suite, banking, business hub- and you will have INSTANT access to THE ENTIRE GLOBAL MEDIA MARKETPLACE.
    There is no DEI regime in Dubai. There is no oppressive taxation or regulation in Dubai. You can hire and fire as you wish in Dubai, and you have access to talent from around the world- including all of these WGA writers being suppressed by the DEI regime.
    Netflix _does not care_ where its content comes from. Why be slaved to Hollywood? LEAVE. Go where you're treated best.

      Also, the Middle East has recently started investing heavily into their film industry, even going as far as to set up a major film festival to showcase their products to the world. The other film industries in the world have smelled the blood in the water, and they are FINALLY getting the opportunity to carve out their own global market share in film and TV now that Hollywood has failed so BADLY at entertaining their audiences.
