When will we find the aliens? with Seth Shostak

    Why do many scientists think life is widespread? Is intelligence likely to arise on many worlds? How are we looking for intelligence elsewhere in the cosmos? What would such intelligence be like? What would be the societal reaction to such a discovery?
    Are we alone in the universe? The scientific hunt for extraterrestrial intelligence is now well into its fifth decade, and we still haven’t discovered any cosmic company. Could all this mean that finding biology beyond Earth, even if it exists, is a project for the ages - one that might take centuries or longer?
    Hold on to your chairs party-science people: Seth Shostak, for several years director of SETI - the centre for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence - is coming to town!
    New approaches to detecting life suggest that there is good reason to expect a discovery of microbic organisms on other worlds soon, and that we could uncover evidence of sophisticated civilizations - the type of aliens we see in the movies and on TV - within a few decades.
    Why this might be more than wishful thinking and what contact would mean is exactly what Seth Shostak will discuss as part of continuing efforts to establish our place in the universe of living things.

    The answer to the Fermi Paradox. There is a beautiful loving Universe many people claim they experience when they are undergoing an NDE. Long before any Advanced Civilization gains the technology necessary for Interstellar Travel - they find a way to escape to that Universe. In other words, it is technologically easier to get to that other very pleasant and safer place, than it is to develop the Type II Civilization Technology necessary for Interstellar Travel. This explains why we have found no sign of an Advanced Alien Civilization anywhere in our Universe.

      Robert W Only some thousand stars would be exposed to that light, add to that, the contrast from city lights vs our sun which is a few photons to a whole lot, so maybe if they have a way to filter that? Then it would be possible, but definetely science fiction for us.

This is disclosure...it’s going to be painful for Seth as he has always kicked into the long grass any suggestion that we are already being visited. They are now putting out videos that show just the opposite. They are now on video 3 and there;s a hell of a lot more to come....Seth will need a stiff drink in the following months.....it;s going to hit him like a steam train.... but if you will lie on the tracks.....

      I've met him before, he wants irrefutable proof. Wants to shake hands with an alien. Why is that so hard for you ppl to believe? As a scientist, that's what he requires. Just because the case is solved in your eyes based on what evidence that is out there, you seem to want to target him because it's not enough evidence for him. Remind me again where you all got your PHD'S at?

I would love for an alien species to visit and make itself known to all but sadly that's not happened has it if were being truthful were back to the evidence thing again. Don't waste your time and money with seth shostak last time i was looking it was tom delonge and his Academy that was asking for money erm....... That transmission was of such low power it could barely be picked up at the outskirts of Berlin -- your implication, that the evil Nazi ideology would be recognized ... is entirely false. Recognition of such content would require profound and in depth comprehension of human culture, this is knowledge a distant alien society would not posses.

    There must be intelligent life out there, but given the sequence of luck you need to develop intelligent life, it is probably so rare it might as well be non existent. This planet has been around for billions of years and its only in the last 250,000 years intelligent life has arisen. Further people often state there are multi trillions of potential worlds where life could develop. I believe this argument is irrelevant. We should be looking what are the chances of life just simply developing on a planet. If it is incredibly small, the number of potential planets will also be incredibly small - 100 * 5 = 500. But 100 * 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000005 is a very small number indeed. Get my drift?

    • @borthwey
      @borthwey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You disprove your argument by your initial sentence alone. Intelligent life does end up appearing at some point. And like it did here, the same inevitably happens elsewhere. This is really the greatest evidence of extraterrestrial life, insofar as making it an obvious and undeniable reality: The fact that it exists here. There is really nothing that makes this planet a cosmic anomaly. It developed out of solar dust like every other planet. And as conditions changed throughout its existence, life changed too. Life not only adapted to changing conditions, but shaped the evolution of the planet itself. This obviously happens in billions or trillions of other planets, as does intelligent life, which also has the unique ability to migrate to other planets when conditions become unfavourable in the current one. Look at life here, look at its diversity and the diversity of environments in which it thrives, not just now but throughout this planet's history. That tells you all you need to know about the possibility of life in other planets.

    Correction: you cannot number the stars. They are countable. The stars cannot be counted. For God made them like the sand of the sea that cannot be counted, Just as God promised Abraham that He will bless Abraham and make his seed like stars of the heavens and multiply him like the sand of the sea and Abraham will be a father of many nations. You will not be able to count his seed.

    "As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of man." "Men were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage. They were completely ignorant until the flood came and took them all." Matthew
    And, there were certainly and most definitely extra-terrestrial visitors from the heavens. They took the daughters of men as wives to themselves and breeded fallen angels & human hybrids which became giants (the Nephilium). And for this reason, God destroyed that entire generation with the great flood through Noah. For only Noah found grace and favour in the eyes of the Lord God of Noah, Seth, Adam and Enoch which was the same God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

    The intro talked about science. Science is "the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment."
    Seth does not really cover any science in this presentation. He refers to various scince fiction stories about alien life.
    His "work" of listening to radio signal searches could be classified as "observations" but they should not, because he has made no observations. Looking is not the same as seeing.
    I don't know what he receives monetarily from these lectures, but since he has nothing to show for over 25 years of hoping to find something, whatever it is, he is overpaid. All of this extraterrestrial interest is based on the failed concept of abiogenesis, that is, the appearance of life from nonliving chemical reactions.
    There is absolutely no scientific basis for this idea. The simplest living cell is more complicated than a large city. Could you postulate that the modern city of New York appeared all at once from random tree growth? No. Engineers, architects, city planners, construction workers, and many other intelligent workers are responsible for the city we see there.
    What Seth offers is a fairy tale more unbelievable than Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny.
    Look through a microscope and see the real story of the complexity of life. James Tour, Michael Behe.

    • @alanchong7513
      @alanchong7513 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha. That's brilliant! Well said! Is Seth really that dumb or has he been paid off to keep debunking and deliberately not find anything. I actually believe the latter. He's like John Allen Hynek. Paid to debunk on behalf of the airforce. Only difference is Hynek started to use some independent thinking. Maybe Seth should also try using his brain for a change and not just be a mouthpiece.
