    80% of the Mexican citizens support the train, this will greatly help the southeast of Mexico. Also, no one seemed to have a problem with the hotels that were built in Cancun which destroyed a lot of the ecosystem in the Yucatan peninsula.

    I wasn’t very fond of AMLO at first when he became President but man he’s getting stuff done in Mexico, his actions show that a change in direction was needed and how he treats the poor and corruption within the Government has me fascinated and hopefully his successors with MORENA continue down that same path.

    A valid counter to the criticism of environmental damage is not that “it’s worth it”. The train has the potential to remove so many vehicles and avoid further highway widenings that it can easily end up being net positive for the environment. You have to compare it with a realistic baseline: the alternative to any train is many, many cars and airplanes.

    • @AlejandroRamirez-le2vv
      @AlejandroRamirez-le2vv ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This..... Before complaining about any environmental impact they should be protesting highways and widening projects because their impact is exponential. New highways bring more cars, which cause traffic and leads to street widenings, huge parking lots, pollution, noise, animals getting run over and people getting hit or killed in car accidents.

    It will be touristic but also for cargo. It connects the peninsula with the Isthmus of Tehuantepec transoceanic logistics corridor which is connected to the border city of Tapachula on the Guatemalan border and which will connect with railway networks going across Mexico and up to Canada. Basically, Mexico is becoming a logistics hub and the Tren Maya is part of that. There will also be high speed rail connecting Mexico City to Queretaro and the San Ysidro port of entry on the San Diego-Tijuana border connecting to Cabo. This rail line is basically just connecting Yucatan peninsula to Mexico's rail networks, that's all.

    This video was so condescending in its approach. I mean the narrator is dripping in condescension when he talks about the budget - which seems to be coming in at around $10B, close to original estimates despite having to rethink/ engineer routes due to environmental issues. The difference is that the Mexican courts and commissions simply do not take near as long as the bloated European and US systems - they work it out and move on. Same with the schedule - the narrator drips with condescension that the train can be completed by the end of 2024 and cites "outside experts". However, much will be commissioned by the end of 2023, and it is very likely it will all be complete by end of 2024. I live part time in southeast Yucatan, and the progress I see every time I am there is incredible. I had my doubts to start, but from an engineering and construction standpoint I am very impressed. And, the construction is being done very professionally. Most of the people where I live are of two minds. Most do not want environmental damage of course - where there will be some. But most are agreed that it is a real economic boost for this region which has gotten very little investment outside of Cancun-Playa-Merida areas. South of Tulum there has been virtually zero government investment. Now you see restaurants and small hotels opening all along the construction routes, and once operating I foresee a lot of investment.

    I’m pretty there has to be pros and cons to the project. There’s no such thing as perfection but I just don’t see how this project has more cons than pros to it. The amount of jobs and economical growth it will have in southern Mexico is undeniable and that area of Mexico has unfortunately always had a higher poverty rate than the northern and central areas of the country. Mexico is already a world power in tourism, this will take a level further and it will generate am exceptional amount of opportunities for local residents. And I respect that the government checked in with local indigenous people that have lived off that land for centuries, it shows respect towards them the government could have simply approved the project without their approval and nothing could’ve been done about it. But they did the right thing and made sure locals and indigenous groups were on board.

    Interstate infrastructure is important and necessary. It’s proven that rail is a much better than highways, which promote private vehicle ownership, contributing to socioeconomic inequalities and air pollution. If you’re going to have a corridor that rips through the jungle, a train is the best option.

    The Mexican Mayan Train stands as a promising symbol of progress and connectivity for the Yucatán Peninsula. With its planned network of modern railroads, this ambitious project has the potential to open up new horizons of economic growth and job opportunities for local communities. By linking key tourist destinations and cultural sites, the train can provide convenient access for travelers, igniting a surge in tourism and enabling the region's unique beauty and heritage to be showcased on a global stage. The project's focus on sustainable practices and responsible tourism also holds the potential to set an example for future developments, fostering a harmonious coexistence between development and environmental conservation. As the Mexican Mayan Train paves the way for enhanced accessibility, prosperity, and cultural exchange, it represents a beacon of hope for a brighter and more interconnected future in the Yucatán Peninsula. Thanks, Details in Luxury!

    I believe that there has been an oversight, a lag in federal investment in the Mexican south east for hundreds of years, the governments simply have not cared, infrastructure development has always been prioritized in the center and north of the country as well as in areas traditionally touristic, but Mexico is a very large country, there are many more archaeological zones that have not been discovered or that have not had the attention that Chichen Itza has, due to lack of resources. Chiapas, for example, which is considered the poorest state in the country, is included in the train route and I believe that it may have some economic benefit for them and for the area in general. I also understand that there has been interest from countries like Panama and Guatemala to eventually connect and develop Central America hand in hand with this train, which seems very good to me since some tourist could travel to Cancun or Panama and spend a month getting to know Central America and the South of Mexico. On the other hand, I think it may even benefit to avoid at least part of the large number of people who emigrate from Central America to the United States through Mexico.

      The previous corrupt governments didn’t build enough infrastructure so that those poor states of the southeast couldn’t develop a strong economy(Chiapas is considered the poorest state of all México). Now this exemplary democratic government has focused building infrastructure to bring those states of the same level or better than the north.El Tren Maya will help transform and bring economic wealth to the people of those states finally after decades of just oil and mineral exploitation!!

    the population isn't fazed in the least by the "devastation of the jungle", specially not since many resorts on the area have done much worse damage to the environment and nobody flipped up about it. This train was made thinking ways around the deforestation, the trees are replanted and the route was made avoiding the cenotes and sensitive areas even using the old railroads that remained from the old system...
    You either need to research more or you're trying to throw shade on the project for some reason...
