Hi and thanks, I love the bike, had it from new... 11 years old now! I got the rear subframe cut down and a hoop welded in it's place. The seat is the stock seat with the middle section chopped out and then stuck back together with new foam. It still retains the lock to remove it, although it has been modified to work a little. The front mudguard is also shorterned, and lowered 10mm to bring it closer to the tyre. Suspension on the front is K-Tech and the rear is Hagon. Wheels are Kineo. The bar end mirrors are Oberon Streetfighter mirrors, which replace the stock bar end weights.

Nice - looking good Pete! question - is the braided hose on the caliper end possibly on the wrong way round - with that 90 bend you could route the hose up the fork leg rather than out and up?
Cheers Matt :-) re the brake line, it is the same way round the original was. I did think about that, but there is then a risk that the line could bend on fork compression into the wheel when it was rotating, which doesn't sound fun! :D

Hi Andreas, thank you 😊 Unfortunately I am not sure of the compatibility with the 850cc V7, I am sure if you wanted to fit clip-on bars to one you'd be able, but probably need to source parts from a race shop as the suspension might be a different diameter on the newer bikes.
Hi Calum, sorry I don't. I got mine from BAAK Motorcyclettes, with their plug and play loom, it was an expensive option (they have upped their prices since as well sadly), but it was pretty much plug and play. I had to change the speedo sensor and calibrate it, and hiding the extra wiring and boxes in the bike under the tank took some wiggling, but other than that it was very simple. If you choose to make your own loom, and get the dash from MotoGadget, it is a lot cheaper, and the wiring doesn't look too complicated, but I couldn't tell you if it is an easy job sadly. As for recommending the dash, I love it, it has all the warning lights, and displays what I want while being very discreet.
Have you looked into stiffening your frame to improve handling by means of frame sliders, crash guards, or custom bracing? I stumbled into a major improvement in handling after installing the H&B crash guards. Their extensive bracing stiffened up the frame, allowing the suspension to work better. With your upgraded suspension, the gains may be even more significant I think. The H&B design on the V7 is a little different than on the V7III, and there is obviously the delicate balance of weight & performance on a track bike, so I’m not sure that may be the optimal solution for you. Sato makes some frame sliders that look fairly light, but only brace the frame joints. But, since the frame joints are the frame’s weakest point rigidity wise, they may make a positive difference just by themselves. A custom brace that stiffens the frame joints, parallels the frame along the lower front portion, and attaches with 2 more anchor points may be ideal. Just an idea, maybe just food for thought for the future. Nonetheless, something I’d recommend exploring as you are looking for better performance/more speed. As you said, these projects are never finished...
I'm probs not going to do anything to the frame, I want to keep the weight down, but also I am not too serious about eking a 0.01s a lap gain really, it is just for fun :-)

Aye, a lot needed changing, throttle cables, clutch cable and front brake line to shorten them. I am a bit worried about the clutch cable as it is quite tight, but can't test it until we are out of lockdown as the bike isn't currently road legal I don't think. Hahaha, I am def feeling old, I need to be back in the Royal Navy to have a PTI shouting at me to do more exercise! :D I do hope your 60th ride can go ahead, even if it means you have to social distance when stopped!
Why does "custom bike" pretty much always means removing the rear fender and exposing the rear wheel? Next we should start removing the wheel arches on "custom cars"...
...and on Rat-Rods, they do just that. I have seen many many custom bikes with frame chops that stretch the rake of bikes, and incredible twists purely for aesthetics, your head is under a rock if you think all custom bikes have the rear removed. as far as I was aware, customising a bike is changing it from what it was, to what it is, if that involves chopping the rear subframe down and exposing the rear.... that is a customised bike, would you rather I added a sissy bay and an Iron Cross rear light and a king and queen seat? Why does one waste their time watching a video about a bike they do not care for? Thanks for the view.
@@HippoDrones Take it easy there dude, how do you know I don't like the bike? As for the under the rock comment, I ride bikes for 35 years, I've seen my fair share of custom bikes and cars... By custom I meant caffe- scrambler type of bikes, like this V7, not stretched nox hayabusas... Ride safe!
@@nikos-giorgos Sorry, I shouldn't be so defensive. I can't really see the point in stretching a cafe racer, cafe racers are supposed to be lighter and nimbler than the standard bike, on UK country roads a stretched bike would be useless, and also not really my cup of tea to look at either, same with choppers, they are really not that usable in the UK. I chopped the back and had the custom seat made as that is a look I like, and also removed a lot of weight from the bike. I have had K-Tech front fork cartridges fitted, and replaced the rear shocks with fully adjustbles. I have removed the large and relatively heavy dash and replaced it with a microdash. The wheels are lighter tubeless Kineo wheels. This bike has been about making it lighter and nimbler than standard, it is awesome fun on the road, and a proper proper giggle on track. If you looked through my back catalogue of videos you will see I have done a few trackdays on this bike, and that it mostly holds it's own against far faster machinery. Stretching the rear is only any good for the dragstrip, and a 50bhp shaft driven bike is never going to be at home on a dragstrip. If you were to customise a V7, how would you do it?
@@HippoDrones If you use it for track days I think you did a great job. These underpowered machines are great fun going fast. I've enjoyed my t100 more than anything I'd say! Now, for the v7 I'd go by a different way, making it a grand toured(but with classic looks). So, tubeless wheels (probably Alpina) with knobbly tyres, bash plate, mini windshield, handguards, heated grips and so on... Each to their own I guess. Enjoy your build!
@@nikos-giorgos Sorry for the slow reply, TH-cam doesn't always notify me when people comment annoyingly. Shot a little review if you are interested to hear more: th-cam.com/video/2G3Sb6VcItg/w-d-xo.html
Also, my compliments, you got some great content, just subscribed and look forward to more!
@@TexMexStrada Awesome stuff TMS, I currently have no funds for rearsets as other things have priority. I'll take a gander at your channel though, and if in the future I can afford some, I may well invest in some rearsets.... but like I say, it is the sidestand that grounds out on track, so that is my priority! :-)
@@HippoDrones You are most welcome! And yep, the rearsets were pricey, so I completely understand where you are coming from regarding budgeting and priorities. They did end up being my favorite add-on so far, so money well spent, but, nonetheless, still serious money.
I look forward to more of the Lockdown Garage series as well as seeing how the clipons work out on track! I hope the weight transfer to the front will pay dividends for you.
@@TexMexStrada gonna be baller mate 🤩
music sounds like its from a 70s porno beta max or a elevator haha. i really like the low bars clip ons i just hope you have put them on tight enough oh well test ride after lockdown see what falls off
Haha, good ol' TH-cam audio library :D
Cheers Pez, hopefully it'll all stay in one piece come test ride! :D
When disconnecting a vehicle battery ALWAYS take off the ground terminal first. Similarly, when reconnecting, always put on the positive terminal first. If your ground is connected while you fiddle with the positive terminal--and you accidentally touch your wrench to any part of the frame--hello short!

WOT? No apehangers? Imagine the reactions it would get.👍
Haha, I'd never do it to Lord Vader, the shame would be too great 🤣
@@HippoDrones I will send this via Messenger to you ... facebook.com/marketplace/item/541090819858925/
holy shit - well LOOKS wise - that is just sick mate, what an awesome looking little Cafe Racer it really is now! Nice bit of spannering, fair few things to change, but then those parts are now new and you know exactly how good they are.
And... bitch PLEASE!!! Old!!??
I'm still wondering if the get-together ride for my 60th is going to be possible at the end of June...
Stay safe mate and all the best :)
Thank you David :-) I have a few more bits to do to it, had hoped to fit a small fairing, but although it was advertised to fit, it didn't stand a hope so had to send it back.
I do hope your 60th ride can go ahead, even if it means you have to social distance when stopped!
@@HippoDrones Cheers mate :)
Lord cafe Racer ! by doctor Hyppo
:D the force is strong in this one! :D
Very sexy bike mate 👍
Cheers Viper :-)
1/2 fairing! Streamlining is worth a few BHP
Like I said, I had one but it didn't fit
First! Finally :D
lol
Hahaha, "Well done" :D
@@HippoDrones did my other comment not post?
@@TheGorillaBiker Nope?
@@HippoDrones nooooooo 😭😭 basically I love the new bars anyway they look awesome :)
Low bars and a LM1 style bikini fairing!
I had a fairing to fit to it which was advertised to be compatible, but had to send it back as it was never going to fit sadly
Hippo-Drones - a Sprint SR Endurance 1/2 or full fairing may fit. I put one on my first Monza in 1982.

@@HippoDrones
Take it easy there dude, how do you know I don't like the bike?
As for the under the rock comment, I ride bikes for 35 years, I've seen my fair share of custom bikes and cars...
By custom I meant
caffe- scrambler type of bikes, like this V7, not stretched nox hayabusas...
@@HippoDrones
If you use it for track days I think you did a great job.
There is something that very much brings the kid out in me about this bike on track, especially if I can keep with, or even better pass a bike I have no business being able to do so! :D
I'd really not a fan of these custom bikes with knobbly tyres.... at least the ones that have no intention of hitting any dirt! :D I would love to get a modern enduro or dualsport and turn it into a retro looking scrambler, that could still utterly rip in the dirt :D
It sounds like you need a Royal Enfield Himalayan as that fits tyour description quite well... and they have been proven as awesome adventure bikes too! :-)
i have a tent in my pants now.......
Hahaha.... Social Distancing in force, Social Distancing in force! :D hahaha
I preferred the looks of the old bars but it doesn't look bad with clip ons and it will be better for track so good change overall
It was a far more civilised and relaxed riding position before, these are not too extreme though :-)
