- Shot by videographer and good friend of the band Mike "ZimZim' Zimmer between March and April, 2016 during the Transcendence album recordings, this documentary is episode two of seven.
This episode focusses on DTP's drummer Ryan VanPoederooyen and you'll get to hear a few bits n pieces of the recordings for "From The Heart' which is track 9 on the new record.

I gotta say, Ryan is one of the nicest guys I've spoken to. Beav as well. I'm sure they all are but those are the only two I've had the chance to talk to so far. It's great to see the individual guys getting the light shined on them a little more.
Ryan and Beav are the most outgoing, friendly guys in the band for sure.

On one side of the coin, it's cool to see how an album doesn't just come together instantaneously; there are all these little touches added and redo's and alternate takes. On the other side of the coin, it's incredible to watch how much creativity and improvisation comes together to affect all these little changes I've never even considered! It's helpful for my self-critical side to see.
Dig it Dev. Hope you do something similar for each new album you put out. It's fun to see the state of mind everyone is in during the production.

It doesn't take a great deal of wit to minimize someone's work, artistic or otherwise. Actually becoming as successful as Ryan in the world of drumming is certainly no small feat, and no less valid a dream. Considerably bigger than what many dream and achieve, in any case.

Ryan is a class act. One of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I like his philosophy and try to take it to heart every day.
Nolly eating in the background one second then in the next shot he's stood behind Dev like an automatron, just watching, waiting, for the right time to strike......he is not human you know. From The Heart sounds fucking huge btw, very excited for this album.

Yeah, that's Adam 'Nolly' Getgood. He plays bass and produces for Periphery, but he's also a studio technician by trade.

So far only one album has truly captured the imagination this year, Cult Of Luna & Julie Christmas "Mariner" album. Hopefully, Dev can deliver another great album. If it's half as good as Sky Blue, Addicted, Accelerated Evolution, Ocean Machine, Physicist or Ziltoid it'll be good enough.

Love seeing how it all comes together. Great work on the new album from Ryan and the whole crew.
It's amazing coming back to watch these videos after listening to Transcendence over and over (and over and over), you can really tell the parts they're working on individually... I can hear the rest of the song in my head as RVP's laying down his drum tracks. Zim did a fantastic job capturing the creative process going on here, on top of the mini biographies.
Keep em coming, MORE, MORE, MORE :D Ryan is so awesome, I would train drums with him every day of the week, such an inspirational and underrated drummer
The drums on the new track Failure are just so damn good. They sound so natural, they carry a great mood, and i feel like I can hear the slap of the skins. Really excited for this album.

I love those little asides in the projection room - if the lot of you released this documentary on DVD and did an entire commentary track just ripping the piss out of each other, well... that'd just be swell!!

Not sure u or DT of the crew Devin, but I just wanted to let ya know. All of you have spoken to me musically and as an artist beyond what I could ever dream. I first learned of you back in Strapping Young Lad, but haven't respected you so much more for your growth in music and life in general. Mad respect for u and everyone involved. I have learned the older I have gotten, the more spiritual I am. I would love to meet you all 1 day. Would be the greatest dream of my life come true. You and everyone else involved, have proven to me what it means to be an artist in this industry. Been listening to ya strong Devy for over 14 yrs strong brother. I think Devin's recorded a bunch of stuff at this studio. It's called the Armoury and it's in Vancouver where Devin lives, so I'm sure it's great having such a great studio so close to home!
