I’ve lived in Culver City for 5+ years and I believe it’s one of the best places to live in LA hands down 🙌🏽 so much to do, very walkable and charming

I'm an LA native and could not imagine myself living in the West SIde. It's hell on earth imo. What's the point of being close to everything if traffic makes you want to cry? This guy should have looked into Long Beach. It's the West Side minus the traffic and more affordable. It also puts the OC beach communities in play.

Hey Micheal, love the content! Would you consider making a filmmaker specific video regarding moving to LA? especially in the current climate to answer some questions like:
How much would you recommend saving to move at the absolute minimum?
How big should your portfolio be before moving if you’re a writer/director?
What ways would be best to grow a network from wherever you are?

One of the better reviews of the city of LA! Nice work. I am in Santa Monica now but have lived in Hollywood, West Hollywood, Van Nuys, Sylmar, Burbank, and Glendale. So I’ve seen a few places! My favorite being West Hollywood and Santa Monica!
I am a motorcyclist (which has its benefits and drawbacks) so most of the traffic is easy to navigate. For sure dangerous, but I’m trained and wear the right gear and stay on top of my motorcycle maintenance. For those willing to dedicate themselves to being safe on the road, motorcycles are a great way to get around and avoid traffic!
LA is what you make of it!

Looks like you're in a good area for getting out and avoid traffic. Great path that gets you to the beach! Living in less luxurious apt complex can get you outside more ... there is great climate there. Hope you enjoy your new home. 😊

If you want to be close to the beach, as in Malibu, but can't afford Santa Monica or all the South Bay cities (like Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Newport Beach and surrounding area), then try the West San Fernando Valley. It's much more affordable, plus it's an easy hop on the freeway to LA, plus there's Ventura and Santa Barbara in the other direction. But you can take the canyon (Topanga) to Malibu and surrounding beaches. It's only about a 25 minute drive through the canyon.

Funny and adorable. LA is my favorite place. Haven't lived in Southern California for thousands of years when I was a kid, but went back 4 years ago for a visit and my heart is still there. It's my happy place, even when I'm in the crappy neighborhoods lol. There's just something in the air there that I find nowhere else. I've lived in South Florida for many years now, but if I were younger and I could afford it I would move to LA.

I lived in mid-city, about 1 mile south of LACMA (urban light) for 3 years. I loved it, I could see kenneth Hahn out my window, I could see the construction of the "wrapper" on my dog walks through the neighborhood. I was 7 miles from downtown and 7 miles from the venice, walkable to LACMA and farmers market/grove. I Loved it, I was in a nice ADU above a garage that included a W/D in the garage and a rare parking space in the garage! Oddly it seemed out of place, as it was quiet and calm. I would walk my dog and wave at the neighbors mowing their lawns and felt like I was in my childhood neighborhood back in Indiana. Why would I ever move.. rent increases due to the neigborhood becoming popular. I was able to secure (own) a nice townhome in the south bay, not far from the beach, and it does have its own conveient walkablility and plenty of things to do, but it just doesnt beat the charm of that mid-city/culver city area. I sure miss it and if I ever have the opportunity to come back I would do it in an instant.

I recall when Playa Vista was vacant land owned by the eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes. He was sort of an early 1900's version of Elon Musk, but way more involved in the movie industry. I also recall when most of what's now the Baldwin Hills overlook & park area were oil fields.
I preferred last year's weather in LA. More clouds, rain & cold. That's now further north in the SF Bay Area & the PNW. But if that were the rule instead of the exception, I guess the tone of LA would be different---maybe its economy too. Oh, well. I recall Decembers in LA when the temperature were in the 90s, so heat & drought are kind of built in.
As with a NYC, Miami, Dallas, SF, Atlanta, etc, today's LA is both better & worse than it was over 60 years ago. People who romanticize its past sidestep the fact many of its most iffy neighborhoods were built over 70 years ago. That's why when doing house or apt hunting, there's less to pick & choose from. Which doesn't help with traffic & driving distances

Playa Vista is where Norm Macdonald lived. You actually look like his son! Do landlords even need to increase that much? That kind of sh annoys me. I know the cost of living goes up for them too but such an increase is just greed. There needs to be stricter rules placed upon them so they stop doing this. They should have to justify it.
