  • After three years, three million units sold and a facelift, Chery’s Tiggo 7 Pro finally makes it to Australia to make a play for a slice of the super-competitive midsize SUV segment.
Priced from $39,990 driveaway, the Tiggo 7 Pro comes in base Urban, mid-spec Elite and flagship Ultimate guises, the latter fitting all-wheel drive and priced from $45,990 driveaway.
Turbo-petrol power, an impressive array of features and solid if hardly groundbreaking execution make for an enticing SUV proposition, if one blighted by some heavy handed driver assistance systems.
But does it have what it takes to challenge the might of segment stalwarts such as Toyota’s RAV4?

Thank you for an informative review. It's interesting that, unlike other reviewers, you avoided the usual complaints about the electronic safety systems.
I firmly believe that Chinese cars are cost reflective rather than cheap. Labour and supply chain costs, for instance, are much lower there hence many companies, including the likes of Apple, manufacture their products there.
We also have to call out "mainstream" carmakers for over pricing some of their cars. VW, Toyota and the 2 Koreans are notable culprits with cars that are full of cheap and nasty plastics being hugely over priced.

Totally agree with you. When you talk to someone who drives all these well known cars, they laugh at you. I do uber with my MG, I tell you right now I’ve done over 110.000 kms on a year and a half and haven’t had any issue. I’m just waiting for the ANCAP safety rating to come through so I can buy the Tiggo. No electric for me yet. There’s too much push from the government and I’m sure some dodge politician is making a lot of money.

Your channel is a bright spot in a sometimes negative online space, thank you for that.

Ultimate model is AWD hence why it's $4k more than the Elite.

Maybe the alloy rim upgraded? Tech info touch feature + safety secure upgrades? Panoramic sunroof upgrade? Studio sound quality upgrade? Leather seats and comfort upgrade? or even maybe the 360 camera view quality upgrade? And maybe the headlight is upgrade to auto... thats alot if all these are added for 4k huh

I decided against the 7 Pro as I was upset that they bought in the model with the cheap fake looking plastic (in front of the passenger seat) instead of the model they get in (right hand drive) South Africa that has beautiful (fake) leather right across the dashboard

Wow, that's one generic design. The Omada 5 looks has much more substance, albeit not in the same class.

@@daweigo6851 Tesla, BYD Seal, Hyundai (basically everything in their line up), Kia (basically everything in their line up), and Mercedes (most of their line up).
You would have been right with 'most' but not 'all' by a long shot.

Design is OK but I would not pay close to 50 grand for a Chinese branded vehicle, that’s too much money . And with the car full of people and some luggage I’m not sure the engine is powerful enough to deliver a great drive?

Chinese manufacturers are not going to sell at a loss just to get bigots to buy their products.

Chinese vehicles aren't overly brilliant . Getting better but still have catching up to do. Just be worried about using your phone or Bluetooth on the cars infotainment. A little bit of a security issue in relation to doing do. Plenty of info available on how Chinese cars appear to have the ability to compromise the personal info of buyers by sending that info back to the manufacturer, 3rd party's & others etc . Buyers might need to be made aware of it.

I'm glad someone mentioned the obvious (or at least should be) security issues. The safety can be hit or miss but it's the security and privacy issues that should really be a concern, especially with all of the OTA updates that happen now. What do people expect to happen when China and Australia have worse of a conflict and the Chinese decide to do an OTA that cuts most cat functionality or all safety features? Or god knows what.
So many issues with buying a Chinese car, even down to supporting the CCP. I will ALWAYS recommend someone that wants a 'cheap' or 'affordable' car to look at Korean and Japanese options. The Japanese in particular have a considerably better track record for safety and reliability.

@ElusiveTy I've been hammered by people that thought it's all a conspiracy theory. It's not, & I'm glad that you've also got concerns as well. Trying to convince people it's a possible issue is almost impossible. It gives China some serious ammo on Aussie buyers, but it's now also been found that they are doing it in the UK & China as well.

This is true for almost any vehicle manufacturer. In the US consumer data is freely shared with government agencies by US automakers. Your data protected by some EU/US/Global law will only be applicable until it is not and that decision does not sit with consumer. This statement needs to be made for US and EU automakers who have massive financial interests in China and share information freely.
