Recently purchased this piano (Feb 2017) -the Transacoustic version, after 2 years of research and trying lots of different makes & models. An absolutely fantastic piano. Sound, features, build quality, looks - all superb. Would definitely recommend it. Expensive (very!), but a great investment.

Thanks for your comment, Jamie! The YUS5 is indeed a magnificent piano - truly amazing for how it feels and sounds in an upright form factor! We've had a lot of very happy customers with the YUS5!

I really appreciate you having talent the time to explain this great piano. It helped me to make up my mind to buy one here in London.

I love this piano. I bought this piano in 2000 here in Brazil and to this day I consider the piano wonderful. It took me a couple of years to choose this piano, I tried some kawai models, but this vertical piano model is unsurpassed. The tone and volume really compare to a grand piano.

Best vertical--closest to Grand Piano sound I've heard yet (in Video demos, heard through Sony Professional Headphones). I came to this immediately following hearing the Yamaha U3 - which is also impressive. This YUS5 is even more grand-like, brighter and fuller. I'll have to put it out of my mind, as The U3 fits my budget and is already a "splurge." (If I win the lottery, I'll trade up to a Concert Grand as I'll also then have a bigger house with the space for one my present little house does not have. No harm in dreaming!)

One of my favorite features is that beautiful wide music desk, and when it is pulled out (toward the player), it uncovers two “ports” that allow sound to come directly out of the front of the piano. This makes a great piano sound even better, especially to the pianist!

Woah. I love the slow action of the fall board. It is great if in case you accidentally closed it, it won't hurt your hands. The sostenuto pedal is suprisingly like the one on the grand piano. I also loved the feature where there is a lever to mute the sound. I very much appreciate the Yamaha YUS 5. Thank you for the wonderful overview. :)

Thanks for giving a fantastic demonstration on the sostenuto pedal! Would be great if we could hear how this piano compares to its similar range on Kawai :)

i have one of the older YUA series piano (it's my second piano, 1979 or 1980 made i forgot) for around 10 years already and love it, but the tropics and the age deteriorates it. I thought i couldn't get anything like that anymore and it's kinda saddening me. But after seeing this video i guess i have to thank you, i'll save up for a new YUS5

The hard board is really important for piano! I remember I was 9 when I was buying my first piano and I loved this white gorgeous piano that had normal board but then my father saw a yamaha m21 that had a similar hard board to this one and it was the only piano in that store that had a "safe door" (that's how my father referred to it lol) so my father bought that one instead later that day when I called my teacher to tell him I had bought the piano, he told me that he forgot to mention that to my daddy and he is just so glad that my father paid attention to this cuz he had several young students whom arms were broken when the door suddenly fell off on their hands

Nice review, but I think you should have also mentioned the ivorite keys, makes a huge difference for advanced players!

You are absolutely right, Ganja Mozart! Thank you for pointing that out. The feel of the keys is very nice and it deserves mentioning.

Wonderful piano. It's on my priority shopping list. I'm intrigued though, what's the device you had on the note stand? An ordinary tablet, or one designed for sheet music?

Can the piano be transported in parts or as a whole only? Due to small size lift

I am considering the yus 5 vs the gc1 from Yamaha? Do you have an opinion as to which is better made? Does one sound better than the other? Is the soundboard size similar in size with these two pianos?

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My opinion is the GC1 is nice. However, it is on the lower end of the Yamaha grands. The YUS5 is the higher end of Yamaha's uprights, and in some ways has a nicer sound.YUS5 can get pretty loud. Try them both and if you can, different examples of them. Though finding a lot of YUS5s may be difficult as they're more of a limited run.

It would be helpful if your sound quality of the recording was better, or at least louder. Otherwise it looks like it would have been great.

Are the upright's keys the same as a grands vis 3 stage keying ?
    Thanks.
