Sadly, hip hop killed off much of great 80s music. Then we started seeing the popularity of rap rise, and it never went away. Nowadays, the great rock and pop bands are a distant memory. It's just not a thing anymore.
It had so much universal appeal! She was so pretty, witty, clever, dynamic and made even head bangers & new wavers pause to listen! This song could not be ignored!!!
This was such an instant hit back in the day. Organic and unique sounding, yes! I adore Neneh, she’s got genuine integrity. Thank you Dereck, loved your reaction. 🙏
Theres another one of Nenehs tracks to check out a duet called 7 seconds with Youssou N'Dour a singer from Senegal it was a major hit in uk and in Europe
I can’t believe you still haven’t done Just An Illusion by Imagination. You’ve already reacted to one of their songs but still haven’t checked out this huge 80’s classic. It’s a must-do, I swear you’re gonna go bananas.
Everything you said was right on. This was a huge hit on MTV, so my son and I could watch it everyday. We recorded it also. But the one things reactors forget to say say is that she was beautiful!
Yes you right about the sound ..believe or not we use like Casio keyboard for sounds during the 80 s 😂 I’m 47 and yes this song was and still is fire 🔥❤
The song is just a remake of Looking Good Diving With The Wild Bunch by Morgan-McVey which also featured Neneh Cherry vocals. This in turn was the B-Side to Looking Good Diving which shares the melody and instruments with both songs but the rest is very different. Cameron McVey is still the husband of Neneh Cherry and their son Marlon Roudette had a couple of big hits in Europe
The Atari St was not exactly a Synth, but Home Computer. 😉😄 Although this song is from the 80s, it pretty much already sounds like 90s to me, in a sense.
Hi Derek !! Je te conseil Mike Brant " laisse moi t'aimer " tu va tomber par terre !! Et ce sera le début d'une longue série avec Mike Brant. Belle journée.
Supremely talented girl from a very talented family (brother had a hit with "Say Tonight") - try to react to the COLE PORTER cover tunes for AIDS which she did "Under My Skin" - great stuff.
That synth sound is s little dated in this song. Harold Faltermayer did this sound in the theme from Fletch (the movie staring Chevy Chase) back in 1985. Also Mirko Limoni ised the same sound in Cyber People's "Digital Signal Processor" in 1988. Still this is a great song, incorporates a lot of different elements.
The Atari 1040 st was actually a home computer.. not a synth.. launched in -86/87. A bit more expensive than the Atari 520 and Amiga 500 that were the most sold back then. Exluding the older and cheaper Commodere 64. The Amiga had slightly better graphics but the Ataris were always considered no1 for music I remember.
Not so many knew she was from sweden at the time Remember that I searched ”new swedish music” at the recordshop here in my swedish town They had put her in ”new international ” Anyway great artist .. love tjis and ”manchild ”
Yea, such a tune-1040ST Atari upgraded the basic design in 1986 with the 1040STF, stylized as 1040ST : essentially a 520ST with twice the RAM and with the power supply and a double-sided floppy drive built-in instead of external. And to make your own music with cuebase It was soooo much cheaper than the Fairlight Digital Series which at that point was the Series 3 but still sounded good! You mentioed the chart sucess it had in Sweden, + Netherlands-how comes you didn't say what other countries it was a hit in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, + Greece! And was off the hit album: Raw Like Sushi recorded in -September 1988-January 1989 and released in 1989 + one of my fav 80's albums! When will you do any of them 80's acid house tracks I sent to your email nearly 2 years ago with a a dozen links?? Just go in the search bar and type in acid house and will come up straight away as will recognize the title!
She had a couple of big hits in America (this one and "Kisses on the Wind" both came out in '89). Even though the hits stopped coming for her somewhat quickly and she isn't very prolific, she has continued to release some excellent music! Her entire catalog is worth hearing.
Hip hop was making major inroads into the mainstream in the late 1980’s. 'Buffalo Stance' was a surprise hit. Unique and still different to this day.
Sadly, hip hop killed off much of great 80s music. Then we started seeing the popularity of rap rise, and it never went away. Nowadays, the great rock and pop bands are a distant memory. It's just not a thing anymore.
@@toby9999 Rap and hip hop contributed to some great songs. It wasn't entirely bad.
I really remember this getting a lot of radio play in 89. Quite the banger.
It had so much universal appeal! She was so pretty, witty, clever, dynamic and made even head bangers & new wavers pause to listen! This song could not be ignored!!!
Always loved this song. Such a vibe. Visually stunning. Far ahead of her time.❤️
Great review dude!
1980s still the most impressive music decade. 80s had it all.
Thanks!

Dereck reacted to it a few years ago,it's on the channel if you'd ike to check it out.
She also did an awesome cover of Cole Porter's "I've got you under my skin".
Thanks for this throwback. I LOVED this song so much. Like you said, so many different elements!!
I used to vibe on this one. Her brother is Eagle Eye Cherry. I love his song "Save Tonight".
Woooow, I did not know this.. I love Save Tonight
Isn't this 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿??? So glad you liked it! ♡
If anyone's wondering, the "buffalo stance" is standing with your arms folded and head turned to the side.
Now after all of these years, I know now what the hell I am singing about. 🙂
An absolute BANGER!!! Sister to Eagle-Eye Cherry and mother to Mabel
Manchild is another great song from Neneh Cherry.
Love that song too

I played Raw Like Sushi just the other day after many many years. Amazing Album.
This whole album is great! I hadn't listened to the whole thing in years and saw a reactor react to the whole album and every song came back to me.
Absolutely one of the hottest, funkiest, sexiest, most badass records of all time.
Yes you right about the sound ..believe or not we use like Casio keyboard for sounds during the 80 s 😂 I’m 47 and yes this song was and still is fire 🔥❤
I can still feel the crowd on the dancefloor.
Let's Go Dereck!!! I love this song!! Awesome video!!

Yes... it did sound soooo good!
The Atari St was not exactly a Synth, but Home Computer. 😉😄

the first cubase was for Atari ST that‘s why the ST which had MIDI ports was widely used by musicians during late 80s early 90s …and it was affordable
Neneh Cherry's daughter, Mabel, is a major chart act now. Neneh's brother EagleEye Cherry had a huge hit in the 90s too.
Eagle Eye, 'Save Tonight' ❤
And her sister Titiyo made some good music like ”Come along”
Love this song
Sweden's finest
She sparked up some controversy in '89 when she performed "Buffalo Stance" on Top Of The Pops while she was very visibly pregnant.
this is good! I definitely need to listen more of her :)
Hi Derek !! Je te conseil Mike Brant " laisse moi t'aimer " tu va tomber par terre !! Et ce sera le début d'une longue série avec Mike Brant.
Belle journée.
🎶💗🎶 Man child 😍👌
👏💃🏻👏💃🏻👏💃🏻👏
Yes Manchild is another Great tittle by Neneh C! 💃🕺💃🕺💃😉

Loved this and the whole Raw LIke Sushi album which was never off my tape deck in 1989!
And Neneh Cherry has some new stuff from 2014, 2018 - she got much more trippy and grown
Her Brother had a quality hit worth checking out. Eagle eye cherry - Save tonight.
The Atari 1040 st was actually a home computer.. not a synth.. launched in -86/87.

Because the Ataris had on board MIDI ports right at purchase.
Not so many knew she was from sweden at the time
Remember that I searched ”new swedish music” at the recordshop here in my swedish town
They had put her in ”new international ”
Anyway great artist .. love tjis and ”manchild ”
That's wild. I always thought she was British.
React to her songs Manchild, Kisses On The Wind and Heart please.
The two songs I love from the mid 80s.... Steve 'Silk' Hurley - Jack Your Body. Krush - House Arrest
I can smell the clove cigarettes from here.
Neneh Cherry and Salt n Pepa were a huge influence on tween girls like me back then.
More 90's :) like east 17 - its alright, adventures of stevie v - dirty cash or freak power - turn on, tune in, cop out
Howard jones what is love next

Un bonjour de Paris. Dereck connais tu Marcin Patrzalek ? Il est vraiment "spécial". A connaitre tes impressions sur sa prestation. Louise
I had the album with this track on it , actually preferred Manchild .
I never noticed… and still can’t… that she was close to giving birth when filming this video. Other ppl be like “oh yeah, it’s obvious”.
I've always preferred the sukka mix.
Neneh a beautiful girl 😍
