I think the possible strength of Gyarados EX is that it can knock an energy off an opponent's benched pokemon. Taking out their active and draining their tempo all in one go is a fairly major swing, but the randomness makes me skeptical it will be strong enough.
Great video Jeff! I really enjoyed the format of this one and going over the heavy hitters of the new set. It feels like you put a lot of thought into the strength and synergies of each card!
I think that flute could turn out to be a one-of utility card in any deck running 2x Sabrina. Yoinking a basic to the bench then pulling it up to get the third knockout point will be a nasty play line against any deck that plans to win with a tanky finisher.
I'm very skeptical about that. That scenario is not very common, and even if it was, flute would basically be a dead card for 95% of the match. Potion and x-Speed are less situational. I don't see the flute being played outside of Pidgeot Ex and Victreebel.

It would be a great combo would have to see how often it would really come up though. You not only need to have the combo of cards but also for them to have an empty bench so they are forced to switch in the card that gives you an advantage.
Flute + sab can be played around by just having a more durable benched pokemon to switch to; an energied-up pidgeotto or victrebell actively punishes playing the wrong pokemon out in ways the flute can punish hard.

Most of the time when playing mewtwo you wanna see gardy pieces slab allows that by either hitting one or moving the non piece out of the way. It doesn't really matter if you see it or not. As long as you don't ruin the deck order by using pokeball after you've played slab you're always closer to seeing what you want

Getting even 2 or 3 extra cards from your deck more then your opponent is a massive advantage. And when you're talking about a potential of 6+... I've been 10 cards ahead of my opponent because of Chatot.
But naaaah, it's not a good card. Something must be wrong with your deck if you think about using it.
But just like when I was saying red card was trash day one, people will come around to the raw POWER of Chatot! Sing Chatot, SING!
Mew Ex is overrated imo. Like it's strong but.. not the best card of the set like many are saying I feel.
It doesn’t spawn its own deck I don’t think but it’s a good splashable counter for Mewtwo EX and Celebi EX
It’s in the top 2 of the format
thanks teach.
I got screwed on my pulls
2 many new toys
Am I the only one who feels like the new cards are too much powerful compared to the first expansion?
Will Pokeball conjure Areoldactly EX or old amber?
neither, poke ball only gets basic pokemon. aero is not a basic and amber is an item
@ thanks joeman
i already hate celebi
W
not really happy with the new set. lacks personality
reasons:
too many duplicate art cards. (there are thousands of pokemon why use duplicates???)
power creep....superior and celebi will be broken. but lets say they are balanced since it's based on RNG to pull the right cards. HOWEVER power creep OBJECTIVELY i see ponyta, rapidash, salazzle and it's evolved form off the back. haven't looked into other yet. but the old sets will never be used again.
finally, i feel like most of the cards are just copy pasted. raichu, pigeot etc. extra damage for benched pokemon. why do we need over 6 cards that do this? feels a smidge lazy imo.
so basically only about 25% of new cards will be refreshing imo.
