Thanks so much for the lovely video - I was very touched by it. And happy to know you liked Kotallo so much! Kotallo sends his regards. 😉 Walk with the Ten.
You are welcome Noshir, I had to make this video on Kotallo as he's such a brilliant character and will make more for sure. Thank you for doing such a great job as his voice actor! 😃
He trully shined in every scene he was in. All companions are really likeable, but Kotallo had a special place in my heart for the very reasons you mentioned.
When he calls Aloy "Commander" and says he will follow her until the end, his choice, I was SUNK in his favor. The visit to the Sky Clan had me laughing out loud!
One thing I realised about Kotallo's grief at losing his arm: the Tenakth mark themselves with their battle deeds, and don't write anything down (Hekarro aims to change that). Kotallo is covered in ink, meaning he is an accomplished warrior. Losing his arm is basically losing part of that history. So not only is he now a less able warrior (in the eyes of his tribe) his previous deeds are also partly erased. It such good character development to overcome losing a part of himself in such a way.
Yeah that's a really good point, it must have been so hard for him to lose his arm for both reasons. But I'm glad we got to help him create a mechanical one when he needs it!
There are so many reasons I love this man. *Things don’t work out with Tekkoteh, Kotallo immediately resorts to murder* Aloy: nah, let’s just blow up their wall Kotallo: wtf what kind of crazy person would do that, I want no part in it I love how this is where he draws the line. Or how significant it is that he follows Aloy. He never really had much of a choice in his circumstances (was trained to be a warrior since he was a kid because ~Tenakth~ and his parents passed away, then Tekkoteh sent him away to become a Marshal through no choice of his own. It was always all about serving the people. Following Aloy might as well have been the first choice he has made for himself. Not because Hekarro or Tekkoteh ordered him, not because of duty, but because he wants to. Also I understand that’s not what most people here like him for, but the writers can’t really expect me to hear him tell Aloy that the rest of his life is hers without me shipping them lmao
"If I live it will be in victory. If I die it will be in battle." is my favourite quote. On NG+ playthrough I decided to kill Regalla again, because I didn't want to upset Kotallo.
"This is what I am now: what I overcame." This line is my favourite of Kotallo's. And it is an excellent message to anyone who has gone through trauma.
Imagine in the next game we get a side quest or errand or something where we can help him obtain a seashell, or teach him how to override machines and see his reaction to flying for the first time. I'd be crying tears of joy 😭
he literally pledged his life to Aloy after the Kulrut, now thats a quality man right there. he's also the same actor as Charles in RDR2 and both are so loyal and lovable.
@@MrMarvell I would love that! Noshir's whole performance was excellent but that conversation was top tier! The wonder he conveyed was infectious and I had immediately wished the game would give me a quest to get a seashell for him. Just like when he talked about flying. I was like "Game. Let me give him a ride. The Sunwing is right there..."🤣
I love the fact that he want's to try chocolate frosting. Chocolate frosting, gathering and listening to sea shells and god damit just give this man the opinion to fly on a sunwing
Kotallo: I’m not getting dragged further into this madness! Me: my guy your plan was MURDER? Freakin love this dude! Kotallo stole every scene he was in and having him on the team definitely made the GAIA!Gang more enjoyable for me ❤️ Noshir Dalal did fantastic work bringing him to life!
I love all of the team members we recruit throughout the game but I love katollo the most. Hes just so loyal and cool. And when I found out we were going to help him build a robot arm his coolness shot up to 1000. He so deserved it too.
What I love about all of the characters from the Tenakth is that ALL of them could have been the "big, dumb warrior" trope that we have seen a million times (like you mentioned). But we don't really get that with any of them (at least in my opinion). I honestly thought Kotallo was going to be the "angry asshole warrior" trope when we first really talk to him, but he proved me wrong! Dry humor is always a trait I like in a lot of characters (sarcasm as well, when done right--- Dorothy from Golden Girls and Niles from The Nanny are my favorite characters from their respective shows BECAUSE of their sarcasm). That humor Kotallo shows with that one line ("That was an unkind comparison") immediately made me love him.
Yes I think it would be amazing in the next game for Kotallo to have his moment flying in the skies like the wings of the 10. Kotallo was fantastic in this game, my favourite other than Aloy.
@@MrMarvell I think a lot of the next game will be spent battling Hephestis, as they mention that it's become smarter and more powerful than ever and won't fall for the same tricks again. So perhaps Kotallo will be dropping EMPs from the skies against armies of machines.
Yes! Very interesting, it's mad how he has been taunting us since the Frozen Wilds and looks to be a main part of the 3rd game. Kotallo will get a chance to do the Wings of the 10 proud!
100% agree! When he was first introduced in the Actors Spotlight video from Sony I didn't realize what a big role he would play and how much I would love him as a character. So likable and inspiring, honest and loyal to what matters. Sticking to his allies helping with anything he can, humbly asking Aloy for help in that personal matter about his prosthetic arm and honoring Varls legacy with a tattoo even though they knew each other for a couple of months. What a great soul. And your right, his way of speaking - calm and eloquent. Combined with Noshirs voice and performance. You gotta love it. I still remember what Noshir said at the end of the video "I hope you like him. As much as I do" Yes. Yes I do.
I like that they threw in this little story about disability in the game. Each tribe has their own form of bigotry and social injustice. For the warrior Tenakth Tribe it’s ableism. Makes perfect sense and for Kotallo to be proud and accept it even when he could wear a prosthetic is touching. Obviously he’ll put his robot arm on if he’s gotta throw hands, but otherwise? Nah. Regardless of whether you choose to use prosthetics, be proud of your disability. To live with it is a physical testament of your strength.
istg my biggest fear was “what if he dies in the end saving alva?” i spent most of my last mission stressing about this idea and THANK THE TEN he did not die and he lived and i immediately visited him at the memorial grove when the battle was over. god i fucking love him SO MUCH
You can talk to him again after the story. You can talk to all of the team out in the open world. I think hes back with Hakkaro. Zo is at plainsong. And Erind is in Las vegas with the other oseram the ones that gave you the dive mask. Alva is in San Francisco. Beta and silens stay at the base
I don't know if anyone's talked about it, but Kotallo's VA is also the same as Sekiro's english VA. Before I found that out, I was just amazed at Kotallo's dialogue and character development. When I got to his side quest, that's when I found out about the VA. Just the fact that he has a prosthetic arm like Sekiro just made me love Kotallo more
YES! I'm not the only one! The VA did a wonderful job voicing Kotallo, Sekiro, and Charles from Red dead Redemption. I was shocked when Kotallo and Sekiro had the same voice.
Noshir Dalal is pretty typecast in games now as the stoic secondary character, but I would LOVE him to voice a main character just so I can hear that voice all the time XD
Kotallo is what happens when you have the holy trifecta of design, writing, and acting put together. Tilda was definitely the most complex new character, but I think Kotallo was by far the most compelling. I really like how he melds with the others, especially Erend and Alva.
I can't forgive them for not making a scene where aloy invites him to fly with her on a sunwing. Like... She meets this annoying chick in burning shores and the first thing she does is they fly AND Seyka doesn't even like it, meanwhile here's Kotallo dreaming about it since childhood - no. Nope. He's not flying. Feels like we're being denied a truly amazing scene. Imagine how happy he would be
What a great character Kotallo was, and in this video I explain why!

Just give me a romance option, like in Mass Effect, and a ME Citadell DLC, just to take him on a date 🤤
I thought exactly the same thing! Just give us a romance DLC already!
Yep, out of all of the companions at base, Katallo was always the one I looked forward to speaking to the most.

They absolutely NAILED the voice casting for Kotallo. That gruff, gritty tone of his... I cannot imagine a more perfect voice actor for him.
Everything you said here, but I also want to add that he seems to have a level of innocence to him as well. Like the seashells? That’s adorable.
