One of the worst pains I've experienced is wearing a retainer after a month of not. Kept me up all night.
I wore my retainer for a straight year after my braces came off, but then didn't wear it for 1 year. Recently when I started to wear it again my teeth hurt so bad. Much better now though, keep wearing your braces guys

I hadn’t worn mine for a month before. Just for quick backstory, I used to have an 80% overbite (it was so bad) and a huge gap and a twisted tooth. After a month on not wearing my retainers, these all started to come back
little by little. It got kinda bad so I decided to wear my retainer and I started BLEEDING! I remember thinking that my tooth was gonna fall out, but I was fine. But yeah, just like wear your retainers. It’s so much easier.
I actually lost my retainers and haven’t gotten them for 3 or 2 months and my parents don’t want to but me new ones because it’s 200 in total for top and bottom

@@jeeniefl8022 I have a twisted tooth too. Braces usually take longer the more teeth that need to be corrected. I had a friend who had like 5 extra teeth that grew on top her teeth and it took her more than 3 years. My orthodontist told me mine should be on for 2 years. My sister has somewhat straight teeth- she only needs to correct her bite and she only needs to wear her braces for a year.
The longest I’ve gone without wearing them was about a year tried them on again a couple weeks ago and they were tight but not too bad they felt normal again after a couple hours so glad my teeth still look normal even though nothing happened I don’t want to risk them moving so I’ll be wearing them more often

I haven't worn mine in months... But they still fit. Granted, I was really good about wearing them for the first initial year or so, or when the teeth were more likely to move around.
whenever i used to have to put in my retainer after i forgot to use it for a few days it would be so freaking uncomfortable but feel good in a satisfying way but so uncomfortable at the same time- i swore i just felt like having a mental breakdown just putting it on idek why.

i barely wear my retainer bc they make my teeth sit weird, but protip so the dentist doesn't get mad for you not wearing it: put it in for three whole days before the appointment. they haven't noticed i don't wear it consistently yet lmao

U don't have to wear It for life. I think somewhere around a year or sometimes less
You can try with a fixed retainer
For my retainers, my top row had lost the tooth that held it up, so I couldn't keep it in. The same thing happen for the bottom row.

the good news is that it still fits, but i had to work my way up to being able to wear it all night because i have always spit it out after a few minutes
I didn’t wear mine for about a month and when I put them back in they didn’t hurt, but like 2-3 minutes later the pain was so bad. When I woke up and took them out, it was physically the worse pain I have ever felt in my life.
i’ll go to sleep with them in and it will literally wake me up out of my sleep bc the pain is so bad
I think because your teeth actually start to shift when you sleep… so they don’t hurt when they are put in.

I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to wear their retainers. I’m blessed with beautiful teeth so, I don’t have to go through that process; but some people are so extra just take care of your braces, put your retainer on. In my opinion the more you follow the dentist rules the quicker your teeth will get pretty
True true, some people are quite stubborn, or the pain is too unbearable, or just forget to wear it. I’m almost at the end of my treatment and it aches so bad :,))

Well you’re right but at the same time you’ve never had braces nor gotten retainers so you wouldn’t know the feeling. I wear them and after a while you sometimes forget to wear them and then wear them again and cycle repeats. Happened to me since I’m so busy with school and other work and I snack a lot or eat often, so I just end up leaving my retainers out.
That's a good way to kill the roots of your teeth. One of my boyfriends moms forced her retainers in after a while of not wearing them and she had to get root canals in all 6 of her bottom front teeth, due to the extreme pressure she forced on them so quickly...

Ok, once, I lost my retainer, and this happened quite often, but this time I couldn’t find it for real. I checked EVERYWHERE. Fortunately I had an orthodontist appointment a few in a few days, so my mom said I could just get a new one. I did dread this though, because I knew they would have to take a mold of my mouth, and I absolutely hated that. Anyways, We went there, Explained to the nurse what had happened, and she was like, “ oh ok, I’m pretty sure the orthodontist would just have us make you a new one, so we’ll just have to take a mold of your mouth.” And I was like, “oh, ok.” Because I knew that was coming, so she took a mold of my mouth, it hurt like a bitch, and I hated it. Do then the orthodontist came out, checked my teeth, and went; “ oh you don’t need a new retainer, you’re gonna need braces again anyways.”

So obviously I had already had braces, and I knew for a fact that they sucked booty, and so internally I was dying, and so I did what any sane person would do.
I cried.
So yeah, my mom and I drove home, and she said to me: “if you ever do find that retainer, I will let you smash it with a hammer.” So that earned her a lot of mom points, balancing out the ones she lost when she mis heard the orthodontist and thought he had said I would need to wear the retainer constantly for 6 months after I got it when he had really said six WEEKS, and so I ended up wearing it constantly for FOUR FREAKING MONTHS before one of the nurses corrected her.
So the lesson here? Retainers suck and you shouldn’t always believe what your mom tells you.

For once I have to disagree with the dentist!!! I almost lost my teeth when I forced my old retainer in and wore it all night, one of my front teeth were close to falling out when I woke up and the rest were super lose.
@hey it's me try them on ( apply a little pressure but not too much) and see how they fit. If they require a lot of force to put on and ur teeth feel weird, then i guess you'll have to go back to the dentist

I was only able to wear my retainer for 2 nights since I first got it, I wore it for an hour or so once a week for the first month then I would only wear it every couple of months. It hurts a lot when I put it in and doesn’t fit probably so I can only wear it for a few minutes, but now even tho my teeth aren’t perfect I’m still happy with how they look.
I wore my retainers just for a month and just half a day when I was told to wear it for 6 months😂😂😂

My dentist gave me a permanent retainer at the back of my teeth (it’s like braces on the back side but more comfortable) and it’s honestly better than a removal retainer, you lose em, you have to clean it, it could break, it could get lost… ughk.

I didn’t wear my retainer for a whole week and when I went to put it in my teeth shifted the tiniest bit so it seated but didn’t fit so my ortho said it was compromised and I had to (at 16 years old) pay them 400 dollars and get new pair for my “compromised” teeth.

I never used to wear my retainer at all, because everytime my doc used to make it tight, and it hurt. 2 months ago, my doctor made it tight again, then I promised myself to go thru the pain. And oh gosh, it pained like hell

I went to the doctor a few days back, after she tightened it, within a day the pain went away!

I once realized my wisdom teeth had grown and I hadn't been putting the retainer properly on my right further molar for a while, obviously I decided it was a good idea to try to push and a medieval torture level of pain suddenly hit me as the retainer slid in the gap between the wisdom tooth and the molar

Ya I broke my bottom retainer and didn’t wear it for like an entire year and had to get new brace on my bottom row of teeth and it sucked so definitely wear them. I honestly just wear my retainers like every other night and it’s fine
I had a retainer years ago, it looked cool too, but one time I forgot to put it back in the case and it went through the laundry in my shorts pocket. It was all bent out of shape, and it hurt horribly to try and put in, even though I hadn't worn it for only a few days. I decided to stop wearing it after that, because I felt the disfigured retainer might do more damage than just letting my teeth naturally settle.
bro a whole month! if i have a night that i forget my retainer i wear it for a day to ensure my teeth are secured where they should be. it’s a bit extreme i know but i really care about the well being and health of my teeth so i can’t imagine going a week let alone a whole month without it
