Chris I attended Lucy’s concert on 5th March and had the privilege of sitting next to Lucys mum Louise as her daughters received several standing ovations (yes! Martha joined Lucy for two duets) Lucy is even better live!
As for this duet let’s remember they are singing in character with Lucy being a Gaiety Girl of the 1890s and Will an officer in the Irish Guards!

Will is also a British singer (hence the accent) and is currently starring in Les Mis at the Sondheim theater in London. I believe this is the fourth duet that he and Lucy have recorded together. While I admit Lucy has a lovely voice you cannot compare with the likes of Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt, there was no pitch correction then, what you heard was pure unadulterated singing

    • @jeffkooistra264

Sorry, but Lucy's voice is far richer and warmer than Karen's, and you can't get that from pitch correction. Beyond which, pitch correction damages the vocals of excellent singers, and even that of fairly average singers. I didn't want to let go of Karen being number one in my book either, but her voice never had the effect on me that Lucy's does. @@patsmith8035

Rosie is a musical based on the true story of Rosie Boote (check her out on Wikipedia.) The show will open in London’s West End next year with Lucy in the lead role. She has already released 9 songs from the show in videos over the past few years, mostly solo numbers. Check out We Can Change the World, which came out a month or so ago,

What a beautiful song written by Chris Broom for the musical. Remember that Will is required to sing the part required in the song and by the character he is playing, that of an aristocratic gentleman from the gentry class. He has to come across as befitting this role.
I think this is a stunning duet and I can see this on stage working beautifully. You need to understand the storyline and characters here.

@@christopherseaborn4084 thanks, a great rebuttal, however I don't know anything about the musical ROSIE except for a 2 sentence paragraph summarizing the plot and what I have been able to deduce from Lucy Thomas' songs. @@darylritchie1619 thanks for your response. The sequence of songs on the studio cast album for Rosie is now fully revealed and is chronological for the show. To fully understand the context and relevance of the songs to the story line does require some homework. The love affair between the two protagonists, the orphaned Catholic music hall stage star, Rosie Boote, and Geoffrey Taylour, the 4th Marquis of Headfort was frowned upon by London society and Broken Dreams demonstrates that st one point, Rosie thought she had lost her love match because of this. But like all good stories, all was not lost and the two Hold On to their love and triumph against their doubters. We Can Change The World proclaims the joy that “love is love, and that’s enough” to bring the story to its joyful finale.

Come on Chris , I think there's a little bit of over analysis on this one. You had already made your mind up about Will's performance after just one line.
Chris Broom is a genius composer and Will sang his part as directed by Chris. I don't think this story telling required Will to go both barrels, it required the finesse that I think Will delivered until the end harmony. As for Lucy, what can you say - just superb. BUT now that your in the musical mode, take a look at Lucy's closing solo performance to the musical. "We can change the world", a Chris Broom masterpiece with a powerful relevant message. Performed to perfection as usual by the majestic 😊Lucy.

The story would be perfect for Disney. The true story of a young English girl Rose Elizabeth Boote (1878-1958) who's father, and later mother were on the Stage in variety theatre in England. Her father was involved in an accident and left paralysed, he later died in hospital. So, at the age of 6/7 Rose was sent to a boarding school in Ireland. The Ursuline Convent RC School in Thurles, County Tipperary, where she spent her formative years. By the age of 15 she was back touring around England with her mother. Rose was usually billed as a dancer. Then while appearing in Bradford, England, they met George Edwardes - The Director of the Gaiety Theatre who invited them to London. Her mother Marie was given a starring role in a couple of Musical Comedies, including "The messenger Boy". Rose was given a relatively minor role of Isobel Blythe, but stole the show each night with her song "Maisie". It became the hit song of the year, and played the role in over 400 appearances in London. (your can hear the song on YT) One of her admirers was Geoffrey Tayluer - The Marquis of Headfort - An Irish Nobleman (although himself born in London). Against the wishes of his family, he resigned his Officer's commission in the Army and they married in 1901. They divided their time between London and the Headfort Estate in Co Meath, Ireland. Rose - now the Marchioness of Headfort, passed away in London in 1958. It was said that Rose mesmerised the audiences with her beauty and her talent. Lucy will be perfect for the Role.

Lucy and Will are a wonderful match. Chris Broom who wrote the lyrics and music is a genius. Together, these three created a beautiful love song.
Lucy is most likely the best female vocalist of this generation. World class! She is probably the 'music treasure' of this decade and maybe even this century. Lucy brings back the kind of singing that most people love. Her talent, ability, dedication and commitment is evident in every song she sings. Lucy has already accomplished so much and has just turned 20 years old. She has done all this without the help of the sleepy mainstream media! If Lucy continues her career in theater and live performances, God willing, Lucy Thomas will go down in history as a legend, and celebrated as have been all the great ‘Divas’ of the past!

Chris in fact said he wrote "Rosie" with Lucy in mind to play the lead role. He gave her a record contract at 14 and has waited for Lucy to finish her education and be able to perform in Rosie. I agree fully with you. You asked about other vocalists at the same level as Lucy is. Well, I can think about just two for now: Angelina Jordan (but that's another genre of music so I am not sure if they would fit as a duo) and Amira Willighagen (she sings classical, religious and cross-over). I would love to see/hear Lucy and Amira, both are born in 2004, singing a classical duet together. Maybe one day you can react on the song "Amen", Amira Willighagen has sung with a Youth choir from South Africa. Than you will understand why I think Lucy and Amira would be a real wonderful duo. Amira is almost 20 years of age (at the end of this month), born in the Netherlands and lives in South Africa since 2018. In fact, Amira's musical journey is almost similar with that from Angelina Jordan: winning a national contest at a very young age (Angelina was 8 in 2014 and Amira was 9 in 2013) after which they both have performed in many countries. Both have left their home country in 2018: Angelina went from Norway to America with her mother and sister, and Amira went from the Netherlands to South Africa with her mother and brother.

Hey Larry, I agree with you in considering Karen as arguably the best voice of at least our lifetimes...until Lucy. There is just a special X-factor to her voice, the tone, the timbre, the richness, the "something" that sets her apart. I believe a large part of it is the lower range that she often sings (alto?) which departs from the overly represented soprano vocalists of every age really not just current one just as Karen did. Not saying that her high range is not awesome, of course it is, just that the lower range sets her apart. (Wait till you hear her hit the high note in "Pie Jesu" she sounds like a Vienna choir boy) I have been lobbying for months to have Lucy sing a carpenter song and am looking for allies... I think 'A Song For You" would just be an outstanding song for her. Oh, BTW, remember this is a musical so they will have to sing and act so that limits the pool of talent. I like your reaction.

Until you have the instrumentation and metrics to compare two vocalists side by side singing the same song under the same conditions, whose is the best will always be a matter of opinion and musical taste. Sandra-
Alfie Boe! Excellent idea for a potential voice pairing-power, clarity, range.
When a parallel is made to Disney and how Lucy can fall so seamlessly into the part of a princess, I automatically go to Beauty and the Beast. Anyone (except Martha) would sound beastly when hearing them beside Lucy. I wonder if Dan Stevens has the voice to adequately accentuate the incomparable talent and beauty of the princess opposite him? Lucy sets a very high bar.

😁 Yes, it’s definitely a recording session, not live performances. I haven’t come up with a male star that would pair well with a beautiful 20-year young diva. I like Will’s voice, I guess we’ll see.

Great reaction! You're in the top echelon of my favorite Lucy Thomas reactors.
Will is very good. Lucy, of course, is stunning!
Oh, and Karen Carpenter is No 2. And Lucy Thomas is No 1! No doubt in my mind.
Please, continue being a regular reactor to Lucy (and her little sister Martha).
Please, please do not hesitate to play and react to some of Lucy's earlier performances of 3, 4, and 5 years earlier..
They often get overlooked. Even at a younger age, Lucy’s voice was already mature and absolutely stunning.
You absolutely have to play and react to Lucy’s breathtaking performances of:
“LISTEN”; at only age 14, Lucy had the powerful voice of an adult diva.
And “I’LL NEVER LOVE AGAIN"; at only age 15, Lucy’s emotional and powerful performance was even better than Lady Gaga’s.
You will find all of Lucy and Martha’s music on Lucy’s TH-cam channel: “Lucy Thomas Music”.

Clearly Lucy is the leading voice in this duet and she is effortlessly powerful. She projects her voice so well and was further from the microphone than Will, yet still overpowered him, but we don’t know if Will was instructed to hold back in deference to Lucy being the star.

Hi Larry. Let me first say that you are one of my favourite reactors to Lucy's videos. At the age of 81 I can definitely qualify to comment on 'The Carpenters' as they were definitely one of my favourite duo's of the time. I appreciate what you say about a comparison between Karen and Lucy but I prefer not to compare them at all, either as solo artists or as members of a duo. .Karen was almost always part of a duo with Richard, so to me they came as a pair. Lucy however, I believe, (will always be seen as a solo singer, who occasionally sings with someone else. I am not a musical expert, but feel that Lucy is so better than Karen, in so many areas (Range, Power, Expressiveness), along with the softness, as good as Karen's if not better. I love them both, and also ALWAYS love your reactions. KEEP REACTING!!!!!!!

I felt the same about Will but he grows on you because of the chemistry. This is their 3rd song together; the pop “Can I Have This Dance” and the lovely but simple, “Above the Clouds.” For “Hold On” you see a very sweet smile between them at the very end. I did not care for what Will sings on his own & he has not overcome his UK accent like Lucy has. I love the powerful “yesterday” (word sung twice so operatically) & at about the 2-3 min mark when Lucy belts out a powerful line when Will finishes his solo part….I agree with the outmatched. Now, but give these 2 a chance to rehearse for Rosie the Musical and I bet you get a more powerful or at least convincing Will when they are face to face without microphones in front of them. And Lucy has the thickest accent that you rarely hear on her songs, but Will seems to be a newbie for an American audience&

I sure hope "Rosie" comes out in a film version featuring Lucy & Will so that I can see it.
