    Hey Mary rest in peace sister.. I want you to know that all of your old Supremes hits have been remastered and released in 2021 on spotify where you can clearly hear you and flo singing. The three voices were there yes you clearly don't know anything about music . The problem was Berry decided for obvious reasons Dianna would have all the leads . Thus relegating Mary and Florence to background singers . Eventually changing the name to Dianna Ross and the Supremes. Note well everyone at that time knew Florence was the best singer in the group.

    • @GGE47
      @GGE47 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have seen The Supremes in early 1967 and I could hear all three voices loud and clear. They had three microphones, and nobody had messed with the mics. They put on a fabulous performance I will never forget. I was seated between Florence and Mary, but everybody could hear the three of them. They did mess with the mics on recordings in which Diane's voice would stand out. Months later when Flo left the group, I was somewhat confused, and their name was changed to Diana Ross and The Supremes. I didn't like this and I figured more was going on than they said. They made it sound as if Florence left on her own when she was fired. There was another time in which Diane screamed at some kids to "Go away, go away"!!!!. They went at for a long time and I stayed out of it. So did Mary and Cindy Birdsong. When it was time for them to go on stage for their second show, some policemen made us come down from the ramp and i said I still love you, but she laughed and said " there is always somebody in every crowd who still loves us" I was startled because she was so close to the window. I wanted to say more, but the police wanted me down, especially that gruff sergeant. I stayed around and listened to them after they left. It was a very good performance. I knew more about Diana Ross that night, but I still loved her. It still wasn't quite the same without Flo, but Cindy was a good replacement. There is more I didn't know until I read Mary's book. RIP Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. PS I did meet Mary in May of 1998 and hugged her and got her autograph.

    Mary should have become a jazz singer after the Supremes. I think she would have been great, and it suits her voice. I never cared for her when she sang Diana's leads on Supremes songs. Songs like Floy Joy and Touch which were written with her voice in mind sound great. Ballads were especially her forte

    I read Mary’s book when it first came out, and I’ve read it over again, being a fan of The Supremes and Diana Ross, I found nothing shocking because fans already knew how Diana Ross was,that’s just her, Mary was just telling the story of their lives, I found it a great read, it didn’t change how I feel about Diana Ross,and really don’t understand why she got mad with Mary.

    Mary made a career of hating on Diana Ross her childhood friend. She stabbed Diana in the back even though Diana gave her a down payment on a home when she didn't have anywhere to go, but Mary left that out of the book because the point of the book was to play into people's dislike of Diana. Diana was the only reason anyone bought that book. And worst of all "she used Flo Ballard's tragic death like it was a career opportunity." She did more talking about how great Flo was and how she had this great voice which she didn't. She talked more about Flo then she spent time singing....A lot of you guys let your dislike of Diana make you not see the fakeness behind Mary's innocent victims image.

    A Diva will be a Diva till the end. I like The Supremes music, I like each individual ladies solo albums, and don't really pay much attention to what they had to do to get to the top. But I must say, Diana knew what she wanted early on and she knew getting knocked up by Berry Gordy would secure her future with him- having a child by him meant he would be tied to her till the end. As for Mary, she has every right to tell her version of their story. What I haven't heard mentioned about that big reunion tour was that the main reason it didn't happen was because Diana's plan was to have her, Mary and ?, sing a Supremes medley in the show (probably running about 20 - 25 minutes?), then Diana would have the rest of the show to herself. So Mary was right when she said the amount of money they were to get should be split fairly. Since that infamous reunion tour bombed so badly, I bet Diana wished she would have left her ego at the door.

    Unfortunately most of you that call yourselves Supremes fans are very one-sided with how you view things pertaining to the Supremes, Ms Ballard founded the group that would be the Primettes and there were 4 young girls at that time but when contracts were signed with Motown the Primettes became the Supremes and they were owned by Motown, so in essence the group didn't belong to any of the group members until the third name change Diana Ross and the Supremes, the group were called The No Hot Supremes until the song Where did our love go hit the charts hard, they didn't even have a album recorded as they were on a Hitsville tour and had to be flown back to Detroit to record a full album. I find it interesting how everyone knows exactly what took place over 50yrs ago and most weren't even born, everybody has a"friend" that worked at Motown or knew one of the Supremes or did makeup for someone and heard something no one else can verify, GTFOH

Diana is a superstar, and nobody can ever take that away from her. However, she doesn’t have very many friends in the industry and she doesn’t have much respect from the people in Detroit. If you ask anyone about the artist from the city they love I can guarantee you Diana Ross is at the bottom of that list.

    I guess all the people talking negative things about Diana Ross here and everywhere else would reject a good job offer in order to please their friends. Berry Gordy was a businessman first and above all. He knew where the money was and who had the most marketable voice. 12 number one singles with the Supremes and 6 more as a solo artist plus an Oscar nomination and a gazillion of other achievements are proof of that. He believed in her more that she even believed in herself. Business is all about money so, their relationship was second to that. There are trains that only come once in a lifetime. If Diana Ross was a guy, we would be thinking of him as a powerful, important man instead of a bitch. Take that offer, you are not offending anyone. If you don't take it, another person will take it for you. They are not going to feel sorry for you, right? Life is hard so, if someone believes in you, don't deny that opportunity.

      I remember seeing Mary and Diana in jet or ebony magazine together at that concert. Two former SUPREMES together was certainly a great photo opportunity for Mary and Diane. Knowing Diane, she probably cared more about getting her name and face in the news than actually supporting someone that she had treated so badly over the years. I'm quite suspicious of her reasons for being there. And she should have been happy to loan Mary money. After all, if Mary had never invited her to join the group, where would she be today? Probably sleeping with the owner of a fashion design school and designing Kabuki- style costumes like the ones she made for Mahogany. Mary mentioned the loans in her second book. She mentioned how Diane Ernestine Ross "contributed to her life when she was having difficulties". And are you not aware that she charged Mary INTEREST on one of those loans? Who does that? They got where they were off the backs of slaves.they earned what they had by exploiting powerless people.she had the it factor alright. She gained favor by sleeping with the top dog. Frankly she wasnt as pretty as most of the women at motown.so you need that eye surgery too. And she knew she wasn't as Pretty but she found that sex was a natural equalizer. @@rossnumberone2 I disagree, while DIANA ROSS had the crossover voice, the other two voices (MARY & FLO) could've made the group even more balanced and more successful. With MARY bringing a smooth jazzy seductive sound (like MARY WELLS) & with FLO bringing a soulful, gut-wrenching sound (like ARETHA). If they toured together if the opening act was better she tell Barry that they were giving them a hard time, and for them to be moved. Everything I heard is that she is self center to the max. If you are waiting on her best not look her in the eyes, because she thinks she so above everyone! Unless there famous and can create attention for her. She totally destroyed her friendship with Flo and Mary ! Diana had to be the star and on her own over 100 song releases only 6# 1 records. One Grammy for being old. Technically not that great of a voice cutesy pop. With out Florence and Mary there wouldn't be a diana. Who I don't really care for cause she phony. Mary Wilson's books are filled with lies about Diana Ross and Wilson never acknowledges the help that Diana gave her whenever she asked for it.
      Diana Ross was not a "monster". David Ruffin was, on all levels, but, he's still cool, right? Diana Ross merely demanded that people work almost as hard as she did.
      As for her "getting away with" anything, Wilson gave the following quote to Taraborelli in 1982:
      "Berry was toughest on Diane. He expected the most out of her, made her life more difficult than I suppose ours were. Often, he'd shout at her, accusing her of things she hadn't done. Many people thought that he was abusing her. Flo and I would just watch, but, what could we do? We were just girls. I think that we were afraid of Berry."
      Of course, this quote never made it into either of their books.
      For the real story, read Tom Adrahtas' 2006 tome, "Diana Ross:THE American Dreamgirl" ( www.amazon.com/Lifetime-Get-Here-American-Dreamgirl/dp/1425971393 ), instead of wallowing in the BS of those too jealous of Diana Ross to get their own lives together.

      @Toni Sumblin
      LOL
      That's a lot of misinformation to unpack.
      1.Diana Ross was NEVER "the other woman", as she and Mr. Gordy didn't become intimate until June, 1965; one full year AFTER his divorce from his second wife, according to both his and Mary Wilson's(first)autobiographies.
      2.Diana Ross "got away with" NOTHING, according to Mary Wilson, who told Taraborelli in 1982:"Berry was toughest on Diane. he expected the most out of her. Made her life more difficult than I suppose ours were. Often, he'd shout at her, accusing her of things she hadn't done. Many people thought that he was abusing her. Flo and I would just watch. What could we do? We were just girls. I think that we were afraid of Berry."
      3. Rhonda Ross wasn't born until nearly two years AFTER Diana Ross left The Supremes, so that's irrelevant.
      4.Berry Gordy "called the shots", according to Motown personnel who have gone on-the-record. Diana merely implemented them, as she was supposed to.

      @@Dion_Mustard With all due respect, you don't believe that Diana doesn't have a relationship with Mary because she's so focussed on her family any more than I do. Everyone knows that Diana doesn't have the time for Mary because every time she's given her the chance, she's ruined it with her bitter stupidity. We all know that Diana won't go there again. Look at the one time they met in recent years at the opening night of Motown, The Musical. It's as clear as daylight that Mary forced herself on Diana and Berry, who were already happily stood with each other. Diana stayed professional and stayed cordial...but look at Diana's body language...even her smile is an uneasy "grimace"
      If Diana wanted to spend time with Mary, she could find the time. She's seen out regularly on her own, shopping....that could be time for them to spend together..... but Diana said recently when asked that she doesn't know what Mary was doing (and probably couldn't care less)...proving that there's no contact between the two of them.
      Time has passed and Diana doesn't need for them to get together for the "Supremes Legacy". She has nothing left to prove...and certainly NOT to Mary Wilson.
