- My question of the day is: if RV had 1 representative song to describe their signature sound, would it be this one? I’m asking because everything leads me to believe this is almost like a perfect condensed version of their whole journey as a group? This song and MV, lyrics etc incorporate so many of their past songs, elements that appeared in their MV, their lore etc! The chorus reminded me a lot of their earlier stuff too and all that really makes me believe that this could possibly the perfect summary to their career as a group. Which is also why I said that if this is your introduction to RV, well good luck trying to make sense of whatever is going on here lol
Ngl, it is hard to unpack everything that is going on here in this MV and that’s also why I think the first listening left me questioning whether I liked the song or not but like many of their more recent songs, it always takes me a little while for the song to grow on me; this time, it took me approximately 5 mins! Their ad libs are seriously untouchable, their vocals equally so and their visuals!? They’re all aging like fine wine but how do they look SO GOOD?! Especially Wendy ugh! Climbing my bias list crazily fast!
Anyway, I absolutely loved watching the MV and trying to find what is connected to what, who they’re fighting etc. So from what I gathered, the gingerbread man didn’t let them join the party so they came back for revenge and destroyed his house, fought him and won and then held the party with the villains they encountered during that journey of theirs?! I LOVE the idea! RV did it again to sum up.

This is what makes Red Velvet so special. They go from Feel My Rhythm and Wildside to Birthday in less than a year. There is no such thing as too different of a concept with them and they always deliver. The song that I compared this to most is Rookie because of the insane visuals but there's plenty of others they reference and relate to as well.
I'm so obsessed with their vocals, every comeback is like wine getting old and getting better
Red Velvet said that this is like their imaginary(?) comeback. The Reve Festival has actually ended in 2019 with The Reve Festival: Finale album (Psycho).
But there's a story line where Reve (a character in RV world) doesn't want the festival to end so he made up some imaginary world of the girls, and that's The Reve Festival 2022, starting with Feel My Rhythm. And now Birthday.
And after watching this video I just realized that 'Birthday' and 'Umpah Umpah' are both the 2nd release of The Reve Festival series 😱 I guess that's why some things are kinda similar, like the happy concept and the mentioning of their previous songs like what u said on this video.

This is a GROWER imo. You might dislike it at first but it will eventually grow on you and you will eventually get it.

I love this concept and the storyline! When I first listened to the song, I liked it but I was a little confused especially the chorus, it felt a little empty to me, I don’t know to describe it.
