Yeah, that was a really sad moment. This reaction was a little longer than usual so I almost cut out the Doctor's bit about not being able to save them, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Their loss deserved to be included. :(
My favorite part of this two-parter is the fact that even well over a decade on, we still don't have any REAL answers as to how the 'devil' if that's what he is, got to where he was imprisoned. Top tier Doctor Who
@@BritanyBinges Absolutely. The best Who is when the Doctor is on defense, unsure of what to do or even what he's fighting. Luckily there are a good few of those stories yet to come, although I don't think many of them feel like this one did.
These 2 episodes are so good because firstly it's one of the relatively rare instances in Dr Who that we get a religious theme. And secondly because it really challenges and pretty much stumps the Doctor in terms of his knowledge and beliefs. Shows he has his limits, not just in terms of his raw knowledge and what he knows but also what he's willing to believe, as he said, it didn't fit his rule.
All very good points. And, with all that going on, this story still manages to touch on the mistreatment of Oods, introduce to new characters who feel like real people with real lives, and give some incredible monologues and Rose/10 moments. :)
I love stories where we get a look at who the Doctor really is at their core, and I think this is a great one. He just has to go into the pit because he has to know what's down there. He realises what has to be done because he's smart enough to deduce it while he's down there. He does what needs to be done because he has the courage to do what's right even when he's scared. And then at the end of it all, when he thinks he's doomed to go down with the planet and the beast is literally ripping fire at him, he looks the Devil in the eye and laughs at him. That's the kind of hero we all need.
I agree. I love it when we get a story that allows a much deeper insight into who the Doctor really is, and this was definitely one of them. It's so easy to just see him as the playful, curious, adventure-seeker and to forget the heavier things going on inside him.
When the security officer says nice reference to Rose saying "Ventilation shifts". He was referring to the futuristic setting. As in Ventilation shafts have been phased out. So its a reference. Lol.
Nah he was referring to the trope of action films and sci-fi films where characters escape from danger by hiding in the ventilation shafts. It's also a sneaky reference to classic Who. The one most-often cited is Sarah Jane in The Ark in Space, but that wasn't actually a ventilation shaft, it was a power conduit.
All I can say is I’m loving your reactions! No worries when you go quiet. Just makes the times when you react to the big stuff even more satisfying. Terrific reaction! :)
When you enter the event horizon of a black hole you unfortunately don’t get transported to another universe. You actually begin a process called spagettification were you.. well it’s actually exactly what it sounds like. You spagettify :) 22:51
@Britany Binges it's a prequel to the old Inspector Morse shows (the character's full name is Endeavour Morse), that takes place in the late sixties/early seventies. Morse also lead to a spin-off, "Lewis". The original series ran from 1987-2000, and Lewis ran from 2006-2015. All three are set in and around the University of Oxford.
Oh, he's definitely threatening! He was playing 4D chess and had Doctor playing Checkers there for a while. lol A formidable foe, for sure. If he hadn't shown him to Rose in the ship at the end, he quite possibly could've gotten away entirely. So glad you enjoyed the reaction!
DOCTOR: I believe, I believe I haven't seen everything, I don't know. It's funny, isn't it? The things you make up. The rules. If that thing had said it came from beyond the universe, I'd believe it, but before the universe? Impossible. Doesn't fit my rule. Still, that's why I keep travelling. To be proved wrong. Thank you, Ida. IDA: Don't go! DOCTOR: If they get back in touch, if you talk to Rose, just tell her. Tell her. Oh, she knows. Love this episode, especially that scene. Gives us a little insight to what the Doctor believes in and how he feels for Rose. Great reaction as always, can't wait for the rest. 💙💙💙❤❤❤👍👍👍😃😃😃
That part was a punch to the gut. I wanted him to finish that thought SO BADLY. lol During the end of series 2 thoughts videos, I go more into about the dialogue in throughout this episode. Glad you enjoyed the reaction!
Hello Brittany I know I'm probably too late to get a reply but what did you think of the rings of Akhaten? It has one of my favourite doctor speeches along with the pandorica opens, also who's your favourite doctor so far including classic mine is ten. Anyway I've finished all of NuWho and I'm watching classic.
I really enjoyed Rings of Akhaten overall, but had a little bit of an issue with the conclusion feeling a little underwhelming. There were extensive discussions about it during the Patreon call last month because I wasn't the only one who felt that way. lol But, the ending wasn't enough to ruin the rest of the episode for me. Nine/Christopher will always have a special place in my heart, but if I had to pick only one Doctor to ever watch again (or to personally travel with), it would have to be Ten/David. (But, I do love Eleven/Matt as well). I'm not as attached to the two Classic Doctor's I've seen so far, so they're not really in the running for me personally. :-/
the fact that rose would have stayed even if the doctor was dead just shows how deep and selfless her love is " Even if he was how could I leave him? All on his own all the way down there. No I'm gonna stay." even if it meant she died too... the emotional gut punch...ugh.
I've only seen the first Alien (just reacted to it over on Patreon a few weeks ago). I'm actually recording Aliens here in a bit to go out Patreon later today. So, maybe I'll get to Alien 3 at some point. :)
I was more sad about the Ood than everything else i thought the Devil was pretty scary atleast at the time when i first watched this back in 2006 it's regarded as one of the best stories of this season i don't think it's as good as "School Reunion" or "Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel" but it's a decent enough story but for the next episode hmm your in for a bumpy ride for that one.
Yeah, I feel like the Ood part of this story sometimes gets a little lost in the chaos of everything else happening. I find them so difficult to look at it, but I do really feel so bad for them.
For me, there was so much potential in the next two episodes, but they just made some odd decisions that completely ruined them. I was actually really into Love and Monsters until we got to the the reveal (which, I do know the design was part of a children's drawing contest). And, Fear Her had some great things going for it but they took it to weird unnecessary place at the end. :-/
Love and Monsters isn't bad. Missed tbe potential it had but overall not terrible. Fear...one of the worst stories ever and should have never been made.
@@BritanyBinges There's a film from 1988 called Paperhouse which, although somewhat cheap, does the concept for Fear Her much better, without the "save the Olympics" shenanigans.
Coming in late but I love these episodes like most do. The mystery of the Beast and the relationship between Rose is all great stuff. I like the Ood, they feel very alien and I just have very few complaints about this two parter alltogether. I want to say more but what more can be said?
I love this episode mainly because of the contrast between Rose's role in the episode and The Doctor's role in the episode. This contrast being perfectly highlighted by Rose and the crew running for their lives from the Ood, dramatic music and high stakes before it suddenly cuts to near silence as The Doctor is just slowly getting lowered into a hole while having a deep discussion on religious ideologies. I find the contrast both hilarious and quite unique since usually The Doctor is portrayed as more of an action hero in the episodes while the companion either tags along or gets trapped or captured, etc. So I liked how Rose this episode is the one having to physically take things into her own hands in his absence, while for The Doctor this episode is more just him sitting back and talking about his beliefs. Another thing I appreciated is there being no conformation on what the beast in this episode really is. Whether it really was the original devil or something else entirely. The Doctor doesn't know and he doesn't want to know. I know you've already seen this episode on your Patreon so I'll talk about it, but it's similar to what I like about the villain in Midnight, even moreso in that case where The Doctor doesn't know or understand the monster and even ends up losing to it in the end. I wish the show would have more episodes like these where The Doctor is out of his comfort zone and confronting stuff that he doesn't know how to deal with, since just from these 2 examples it leads to 2 of my favourite episodes in the series.
YES! I completely agree! I actually talk more about how I really like Rose stepping up and taking more of the Doctor's role during the end of series 2 thoughts video that will come out once we wrap up this series. :)

Series 2 is my least favorite tennant series, but this two parter is one of his best stories! I wish you never actually saw the beast tho. Would have been far better if you never saw what the doctor was speaking to.
Series two definitely has some real highs and lows. I can see why it's low on the list for a lot of people. I think I prefer getting to the beast, but I can see where not seeing him would also be interesting.
