yes please - and the old movies from the 50s and 60s, in the following order 'Belles of St Trinians', 'Blue Murder at St Trinians', 'Pure Hell of St Trinians' (though that one's the weakest of the original four), 'The Great St Trinians Train Robbery' (bit different from the others but a lot better than Pure Hell). There was an 80s movie 'The Wildcats of St Trinians' but it's not that good so it can be skipped. But yes, also 'The Legend of the Fritton's Gold'. If you're still interested you can still find Ronald Searle's original cartoons that inspired the movies really easily - one frame cartoons they used to show in newspapers. The first two movies have that portrait we saw at 2:57, mother to the later mentioned 'Great-Aunt Millicent' who founded the school and was likewise in the first two movies. I think she's also supposed to be the bust Annabelle smashes - she was played by Alistair Simms and so was her brother.

7:00 Miss Fritton is played in drag as homage to Millicent/Amelia Fritton in The Belles of St Trinians (1954) and Blue Murder at St Trinians (1956). She was played by Alistair Simm (it’s her head that makes up the bust that Annabelle breaks; the picture in Miss Fritton’s office is also of Alistair Simm from the original picture of “mummy” from the Belles of St Trinians set). Just Easter eggs.

Yes! I feel like an important context for these remakes are the original 1950s films and the comics they were based on as well. It is like the British version of the Addams Family - bizarre and beloved of many generations.

    • @steveneardley7541

I like the old one better, though this one is good too. The girls in the first one were just hooligans, while in the second one they are scary chavs. The first one really didn't make it to the U.S. except in a few big cities. My family was into British comedies, so we saw it at the theater. My favorite British comedy from that era is Make Mine Mink, with Terry Thomas. It's an absolute riot.

In the first movie they worked as a team, nobody was left behind or bullied except Annabeth but then the girls saw she's not a bad person than welcomed her in their group. The connection between Wild Child and St Trinian's is that Juno Temple was in both films. And Georgia King was in St Trinian's II.
Also, to understand St Trinian's, you need to study Ronald Searle's artwork - he created it all - then watch the 4 films done in the 50s and 60s, and then you might understand why it is why it is...

It's St Trinan's, a British girls boarding school - of course it's chaotic!!!
As wild and crazy as the 2007 film was, it respected the original Belles of St Trinian's (1954). Like other commenters, discovered the original movie series after seeing St Trinian's and loved them. The twins' shenanigans were the best parts. Sophie gets a gold star⭐.

This was a wonderful romp thru the film. Love a good pantomime with Rupert Evert impersonating him mommy and Queen Camilla... and the dog was called Mr Darcy after Colin Firh's Pride & Prejudice charcater. If you ever have some time watch the 1954 version The Belles of St Trinian's where Alaister Sims (who did A Christmas Carol in the same year) plays Miss Fritton and her brother Flash. St Trinian's is based on a series of cartoons by British cartoonist Ronald Searle and there were a series of books that were hysterically funny and work tracking down. Love these films.

No - the 2009 anarchic/subversive sequel "St. Trinians - Fritton's Gold" is the real anti-establishment masterpiece. That's why establishment media entities(like TH-cam) show up far fewer clips about it than they do about the 2007 film.
The "Fritton's Gold" sequel DVD gets 4.5 Star / 90%-plus thumbs-up ratings by the public / buyers on Amazon, Rottentomatoes etc but is given predictably mediocre ratings by "professional" establishment reviewers / film critics.
    Go figure.

Amazing. Oh, and the references - 'Another time. Another country', for instance - Colin Firth and Rupert Everett were in both the stage and film productions for Another Country, a film about a schoolboy romance. The obvious Pride and Prejudice lake reference, too. It's just its own perfect thing, I adore it, and the sequel. Shame the third never came together.

OK, now I have to laugh because it looks like this is your first time seeing this movie and mentioned that it was so British American's wouldn't have seen it. I have watched this movie at least a dozen times and love and I have never even been to the UK.

I saw the second movie on TV by chance and I couldn’t stop thinking about this movie ever since. A wild ride but a really funny and excellent movie at the same time👏🏼

When I was 7 this played on telly at like 8pm. And the only scene that I saw was when the dog…. Basically I run up to my room and cried and now I’m scared of lawnmowers.

The movie was published when I was about 15 and I wanted to watch it because of Mischa Barton and I'm so happy I did! I absolutely love this movie!! ❤️❤️❤️ It's entertaining, funny, the cast OMG xD and I'm not even from England. I thought it is well known because of the huge British cast and it is just so different from the other boarding school films. 😊👍🏻 I'm from Austria and I have attended a public high school without school uniforms, so it is kind of exciting for me.

These memories xD I can't breath! The funniest thing ever is for me... that my mother! suggested the movie without knowing what it is about... and she loved it more then I :D Think it had something to do with the part, where the poor dog was send flying to the death.... I was mortified and screamed/cried to much, that my mother needed to pause the video and show me over and over again, that it was not a real dog but a stuffed toy. Yeah... she should have watched it first, before showing it to me xD

You need to watch the original 1950s films with Alastair Simm as Millicent and Alice Fritton to get certain references and to understand the homage to Rupert playing both parts of Carnaby and the role of Camilla in drag.
Russell also pays homage to Terry Thomas as Flash Harry. It takes more from "The Belles of St Trinians" which is the second film in 1954.
The bit later where they animate the plan to steal the portrait is a reference to the animated openings of the originals.
The overall plot is that they are saving the school from bankruptcy and foreclosure, so they use the trivia competition and cheat their way to the final in order to use the gallery and steal and fence the painting to regain the money.
They sell Carnaby the fake, then make themselves look good by returning the original and getting extra reward money.
All so they can stay at a school for free expression. They learn and apply school teachings, just in questionable ways. Still learning maths and chemistry, just to apply the correct amount of explosives and get a return price on a sale.
