I’m Gonna Be Strong This recording has the absolute best ending ever in the history of the world! Mercy! What a powerful, magnificent crescendo for the ending! It absolutely leaves me breathless! I’m gonna be strong and somehow survive listening to this incredible masterpiece of a recording a few times a day!
An example of how humble Gene was, Oldies 103 in Boston used to have free concerts at city hall plaza during the summer. Some big name performer had to cancel their engagement so they called Gene at his home in Connecticut (who was cutting his grass at the time) to fill in and he agreed to drive to Boston and take over!
One of my all time favorites by Gene Pitney. Always did like especially the final 14 seconds of he song. Good Post! Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 koma
Gene is timeless. I was 17 when I fell in love with him. I'm 77 now and si ng this to my only child. We argue so much. I feel we have gone full circle. Gene Pitney, we love you...share so others may know of him.,,
A sting in the tail: I seem to remember reading that when this was recorded Gene had a bit of a cold and could not reach the final last note. One of the recording engineers in the studio steps up and says; "I can do it." And so he did and it was dubbed on to the end of the recording. P.S. I've seen Gene Pitney live in concert in Stoke on Trent and he made the last note then! DL, Staffordshire, UK.
