- DSJ Tokyo (Digital Signage Japan) was really cool with many different screen technologies on the scene. But we turned our attention to the E INK screen, of course.
EINK SPECTRA 6 was in full swing, and many screen sizes were on the scene! This is a new 13.3-inch display that would be perfect for a digital photo frame.

Spectra is perfect for digital paintings. You can change the picture every day.
I'd love to buy a digital picture frame with that technology

Ch-lcd is good for it. One company sells it with a paint coating. B2b only. One frame per.. 5 seconds but it’s at least it’s like a slowed down progressive scan instead of a flicker bonanza.
If someone made a nice picture frame around a E-ink Spectra screen it would sell for sure. It wouldn't even need a battery just a small solar cell around the side of the frame + a super capacitor is enough for it to change the picture once a day, and it would last for many decades.
Yeah, photo frames and digital paintings is what would make this an absolute success as a consumer ready product. There must still be a reason blocking this idea because I can’t understand why they are not doing it.
Может быть влияет большая цена на такой экран?
LCD screens are cheaper.

Yeah, they look great, but as an electronics engineer, I am bitter that I can't get those without contacting EINK directly... Which makes them impossible to use as I am not a big scale manufacturer... This company is trampling its own growth with this heavy-handed approach.
can’t wait till the eink patents expire
I need one of this with NFC, my use case is really simple. I need to remind my household of certain things or my staff. The ability to just stay on for them and send occasional targets or instructions would be absolutely awesome.
What would be even more perfect would be for spectra 6 size that can replace wall art in a domestic home. So you can replace the art daily or weekly a batter should last months or years if it just used BLE as the connection.
I was thinking a brute force (and albeit stupid & expensive) solution to the speed is by having two screens as a reader. You finish reading one screen, you go to the other. While you read the other, the former page finish changing.
Surely every type of signage that changes between static pictures every now and again would be a no brainer application for this. Menus, transport timetables and departure screens. Anything.
Departure screens would be bad. Those need to be updated frequently enough that this nightmare of a refresh rate(especially with the flickering) simply wouldn't be an option.
@@gwenc1371 Yeah fair point. I don’t know why I said that to be honest because I knew it’s only suited to things that update every hour or something like that.
