This video is exactly what I needed to watch today. My parents have both passed in two years and I am the only one of the children living close to them. I have cleared out their home in 3 months (a five bedroom, 4 bathroom home plus two bonus rooms and an attic with a two car garage and a huge shed filled with treasures from several generations of family members).
This was the hardest task I’ve ever had to complete simply because I had a limited amount of time before the house went on the market.
Now my home is packed and I’ve got to keep decluttering because my daughter and her two children suddenly need a place to live - that’s a completely different sad story!
I don’t have the room for the people I love because my home is packed with stuff. But I’d rather have none of the stuff and a full house of people I love.
I’m exhausted, from the work I have already accomplished and when I think about all the work still ahead of me i just want to sit down and cry or run away.
I have not even had the time to process my grief.
I’m sorry you have been through this with the passing of your Father, but seeing your video today and the progress you have made gives me hope & great inspiration!
Thank you for posting this video!
Oh, Shawnie! I'm so sorry for your loss and the big responsibility that came with it. Wishing you comfort and strength for the journey ahead. I wish I was nearby to lend you a hand. Hoping that you'll get some downtime really soon. I'm thrilled that the video gave you some inspiration. *Hugs*
beautiful woman speaking of really inspiring things in a very inspiring manner..i guess I shall go declutter smth😂
That's very sweet. I appreciate you😅
Thank you for watching! Hope the video was helpful. Not sure why I always say "less" instead of "fewer", but bear with me😅
Congratulations on your life decision to live closer to your happy place. How close are you to the ocean now?
@@jbwest4618 thank you! I'm a 5 minute drive away😄
"Less clutter" (singular), "fewer items" (plural). Thanks for the tips!
@@1missdc thank you. Somehow I didn't realise that I'd said less (items) until I watched the video🙊
Very inspiring video! Thank you
You shine, and your voice is so nice to listen to! I enjoyed this so much, and am more motivated to go through and purge the excess! Thank you for the gentle reminder. I love that you fulfilled your dream of a beach location!
Hi Kimberlie, I appreciate the compliment. Thank you for being here😊
Good day Ms Woods....I began my decluttering journey the start of 2016....I didnt know anything about minimalism but I was moving to a big apt 2 bdrm 2 bthrm and packing for the move I was tired and just began to declutter instead of packing....and it was the best ..once I moved I continued to downsize, and my entire life changed as I began to eat healthier, so no food clutter, I went organic in food and in hygene, no bathroom clutter....I ended up moving again from that big apt to a studio with nothing but my bed, an end table a desk n chair thats it and ive been my happiest 🎉
Wow! Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your amazing journey. Gotta love the ripple effect of decluttering. All the best
And it's fine to say less instead of fewer!
I have been decluttering for a while, and I like the idea of "If I didn't already own this how hard would I work to get it." There are some things that fit this category that have been holding me up...but I wouldn't buy them again! Thank you for a very enjoyable and helpful video 😊
My pleasure! Thank you for sharing. All the best on your journey🤗
I have decluterred so many times & still need to. I find myself moving things to throw out & at times just putting them elsewhere. I think it would help if I move to a smaller place. I have achieved some learnings over time, though. One of them is to stop running after sales. Another is to question myself : Do I really need it? Logic does not always win, though. A big one for me is clearing space when doing a project. A simple thing: like cooking, for example, or even studying. I recall trying to study for an exam & finding that I was not achieving anything until I organized the books & papers around me. Of course, we have to remember that for some, there is order in chaos. It depends on the person.
I am still a work in progress. Your tips are very helpful & delivered in a manner easy to follow. Knowing myself, I must set myself that objective & have no distractions.
I enjoyed this piece & look forward to more like this. Great job!
Hi Ursuline, thank you for watching. I hear you. For me decluttering is a lifelong journey. I agree that
Sales can really set us back so I no longer sign up for promotional stuff.
Like you, I work best when my space is organised, but yes, more creative personalities tend to thrive in a busier environment.
Thank you for being here. Best wishes
Great video and tips. I love decluttering ... it's almost like a hobby :)
Hi Joanna, I love this! Thank you
This video is very inspiring and gentle. It was cozy to watch, like sitting down with a friend. Im going to get back to my own decluttering journey today! Thank you for taking time to make this video 😊
Thank you for watching. So happy to hear. Wishing you the very best.

Wow! You're amazing! You get straight to the point and covered more ground than many other videos put together! Your backstory, changing process and list of benefits were all contained in under 8 minutes.
I applaud you! 👏 Sometimes I just don't have time for lengthy videos. Yours was short, full of content and inspiring. Thank you! 😊
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you for watching. My pleasure🤗
Thank you for your video! 🤗💐 I started decluttering a few months ago. It has been the best decision I've made lately. It really helps to focus on what it's important.
My pleasure. So true. All the best on your journey.
Fellow minimalist here but I live out of a backpack! Sold everything now I travel slow and live simple. Love that I came across your profile and wish I met you while I was in Trinidad! Was there for a month earlier this year. Would love to connect and discuss our similar interests ❤🎉
Hi Sophia! That's awesome! Thanks for reaching out. Will post my email soon. It would be lovely to have a chat. All the best!
Hi Maria. What a lovely manner you have. Very calming to listen to. I am watching from Scotland where it is, for July, very cold and wet. The thought of Trinidad and Tobago is wonderful. I will definitely be joining you on your future videos and taking your advice when it comes to finally decluttering our home. 😊
Hi Antonia! I appreciate your kind words. So happy you're here. Hope the weather warms up soon
This was so clear and well explained. I have been thinking about this topic so much lately as I begin to de clutter. I have definitely always lived “by default,” through many crises. The only thing…it is hard to find ways to divest of things! It’s as if the donation stations themselves are over cluttered and often don’t want more! 😅
Thank you so much. That is very true. So far I've been able to pass items on to friends or sell on Facebook Marketplace. Will explore some options in a future video. All the best on your decluttering journey. Have a great day

Hello. I started decluttering my life in 2014 after reading 'The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up', however, I always enjoy finding new channels to inspire me to take a hard look at what is accumulating in my house. I really enjoyed this video, and I look forward to exploring your channel.
Hi. Thank you so much. So good to know
Gosh, I just don't even know where to start... But thank you for sharing your experience and tips! I'm slowly building up the courage and motivation.
Also, what a coincidence that you are from Trinidad~ Just a few months ago a kind lady from Trinidad was sitting behind me on the train and gave me lots of lovely life advice. 😊
My pleasure. Oksana! Welcome! It can be really overwhelming at first. I find it helps to start small and do just a few minutes at a time. Stay tuned for the decluttering series. I'm rooting for you!
So happy to hear your experience with the Trini lady. Would you mind sharing where you're from? Best wishes

I'm in a similar situation, without children, although I'm older than you. I'm encouraged that you have read some of the same books I have read and the principles you used are the principles I am using as I go through my things, accumulated over many years. How long did the decluttering process take you, Maria? Did you start and then not stop until you finished? I find I have to take breaks from decluttering and it is very much "in fits and starts". I'm going to do my clothing soon! (I've subscribed.)
Hi Amanda, thank you so much. Welcome! I did it in phases. I started with the kitchen and did a bit every few days for about a month. Then I took a break and moved on to the other areas. It took me about 4 months. I like to pace myself. I'm rooting for you! Best wishes
@@mariawoodspersonaldevelopment Thank you, Maria! I like to pace myself too so I'm encouraged by what you say. Looking forward to following your future videos.

I am in a dilema. I have no problem getting rid of most item. I am moving to France in a few months. I have family photos. Many of the people are deceased. My only child does not want them nor does anyone else in the family. I don't want to keep carrying them around as I have done for over 20 years. Any suggestions. It's hard to throw them.
Hi, thank you for watching and congratulations on your move. I have had the same problem. I realised that the family photos would end with me as I have no one to pass them on to. So I selected a few of my faves (one or two of each relative) and keep them in a small box. Any others that I really like, I took digital photos and saved on a hard drive so I can access them from time to time. It's hard to throw photos away but it might be harder to keep carrying them with you. Hope this helps. Bonne chance et bon voyage!🤗
Hi, you have an unusual version of English. What influences him? Is that the pronunciation of Texas or something else? I am Ukrainian and I have never heard such an interesting pronunciation
Hi there, thank you for watching. I'm from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. We speak English but our accent is different from the British, American, Australian or other accents.
@@mariawoodspersonaldevelopmentYou speak a little slower than most native English speakers and I like that. In most cases, I set the speed to 0.75 to understand all the words. If all people in Trinidad and Tobago are so unhurried, then I pack my bags, 😁I don't like fuss.
