As an experienced light tanker driver I find the Comet's AP shells have enough pen. Using 150 pen in tier 10 games with a piddly light tank teaches you quite a bit about gunnery in WoT.
I'm trying to work my way through the Comet...and if you get killed, generally you loose money. The gun scares no-one at level 7 and above, it can't penetrate head on, and does not do enough damage to ensure your getaway once you fire it, mostly all you do is annoy the other tank. No real armor, a weak gun, and within the game, you are expected to pull your weight, and you just can't. (mind you, the game favors heavies anyway, there's almost no place for anything but TD + Heavies these days.)
I'd say the Comet needs some kind of buff. None of the 7-tier mediums seem to be good and I've got agree with Jingles on this except for the Panther. The Comet will always remain a bad memory when i'll have the Centurion to play with. At least the Panther had over 190 penetration so it can land some serious damage on enemies, perma-tracking heavies etc.
Well...I didn't like the comet, but it may just have been my play-style, I've seen others do really well with it. I made it to the Centurion 1, and even though it isn't fully upgraded yet I love it. So the grind through the comet was worth it.
The comet is one of my favorite tanks and i do pretty well in it. As you guys see in the video there are no Tier 7 Mediums, which have especially good Penetration. You really need to snipe for weakspots even in close- range fights otherwise you will bounce all over the place. And this Tank is accurate enough to do so. Well I have encountered countless enemies who ingnored me firing at them because of the low alpha. They died because of underestimating the reloadtime ;) Btw jingles its shocking to see you firing so much Gold. Stop loading the skill^^
That gun mantlet has trolled me so hard so many times, I don't even remember how many times I was in my jagdtiger shooting at a comet and heard "that one bounced" or "ricochet"
9:35 Actually, since the 8.5 buff, the 30.02 with the L/70 gets pretty much the same rate of fire as the Comet when the gun is mounted on the Schmalturm
Mancboy2000 it would have been alright if only it had more turret armor… Then you could trick the enemy into shooting your turret first, then exposing your tank with the bad gun depression, then pop back into hull down. But it doesn't work with the KV-13, because the weakest point of it's armor is the turret dammit. :(
Royce Yu Well, your name is Hacksource which happens to be the old name of ASF Jerome in MC. Also i am not a minecrafter NOR a scrub. I have put 9.5K battles into WOT and maybe 2 hours into minecraft. 2 years ago I watched Jerome ASF when I was naive and childish, no more. The evidence lies here: www.noobmeter.com/player/na/coolmanjack/1000616177/ (I do not have the same YT account name as my WOT name)
Says a lot that this channel is the first I check for updates every day. And even if I wait a while, this channel delivers constantly. Thank you, Jingles! On that note, I've always been somewhat...careful with the British tanks. The Heavies disappoint me for a number of reasons, but at least the Meds are fun to play for the most part.
Jingles, I've watched you video about VK3601H and saw what you do with the Konisch Gun. So, I put in on my VK and after two games with it, I have full respect for the Konisch. The second game was OK - Reaper, Ace Tanker, Master Gunner, Kolobanov's Medal, Radley - Walter's Medal, Steel Wall, Top Gun. Thanks for the eye - opener!
I run the E-25 (150 penetration) without any APCR, and frequently rack up 1600+ damage. Also, you forget to mention that the Panther DOES NOT REQUIRE premium at all! 198 pen with the 7.5/100. And I would venture to say any tank that REQUIRES premium ammo to work decently for their supposed tier, are crap.
The Panther gets so much crap! It'd BS because I regularly get 3000+ damage damage with it. The thing fires so fast and with the high pen and good accuracy you can do some massive damage. Not to mention modules that you knock out lol. Sure, it's not as maneuverable as it should for a medium and it DEF isn't what it was in real life but it's just maneuverable ENOUGH to pop out, fire, go back, pop out fire again, go back(they fire), you move forward and fire 3-5 rounds back before they reload and BAM they are dead.
Little explanation of the bounce at 18:45 Im pretty sure the shell hit the strongly angled front armor, not the side he was aiming at. Hard to tell in the vid, but Im relatively certain. The reason it bounced is because any shell impacting at an angle exceeding 70° will automatically bounce. on Heat 80° Think of it like skipping stones on water. Water is very weak armor, and when dropping in, a stone will always penetrate it. But when it hits at a very flat angle, it will skip across (ricochet)
Personally when I play the comet, I play as a medium tank killer because of the amazing DPM that the gun has on the Comet. Once the job is done with killing medium tanks, you can turn into a flank sniper, and it's able to circle heavy tanks. And the armor is awesome too, it can absorb shots at times.
I've also found that I don't need to use premium ammo quite as much as Jingles uses it, but you do need to carry some in reserve for when you can only shoot at something heavily armoured from the front. I try to play the Comet as more of a flanker, where the rate of fire is enough to really put the hurt on enemy heavies who are caught out, and you have good shots at their sides and rear.
Hello Jingles, Just wanted to point out that the L/70 on the VK3002D is SLIGHTLY different than the L/70 on the VK3601H (or the other Tier 6 mediums), meaning that on Tier 7 it gets a 15 RPM, while on the Tier 6 mediums it has 13.04. Possibly due to the latest gun rebalancing on the VK3002D, so now the DPM on the 75mm is close to the DPM on the short 88. So that means that it's almost on par with the Comet gun (15.38 RPM). P.S.: Loving my VK3002D, hated the T-43 with all my guts.
It's pretty historically accurate. The OQF 17Pdr, which the A34 has, was a good gun, by late in the war it needed the APDS ammunition the UK was using to penetrate the heavier armour.
I go to work every night with the expectation of having 41:52 seconds of my 8 hour working shift covered by the bliss of your tank reviews....please carry on
It doesn't "need" that, also in almost any game you will be engaging heavies front on due to the map design, the object of medium tanks is to flank or aim for weak spots etc. if they can't flank
This isn't just a Tier 7 Medium Tank, this is a British Comet Medium tank with a top speed of over 50kph and a fast traverse speed and great outflanking abilities.
Jingles! If you press R a couple of times, your tank stays on full speed, so you can write without having to stop! You can also back up and lower the 'cruise control speed' with the F key :)! I hope you see this, tankmaster, Jingles!
I recently got my comet, and I must say I am really starting to warm up to it. I think I might enjoy driving it more then the cromwell, only time will tell.
I must be living right. Sort of at least, I suppose, as this was the second new video featuring the Comet I've watched today. Both were informative and very well produced. I must admit though, that yours was a bit more technical (a good thing by the way) but it helped to push me over the edge as I was really dreading the grind to the Comet. As always, thanks for the excellent WoTs videos and technical insight into all the tanks you play as I find it makes enjoying the game much easier for me.
The Comet is one of my favourite tanks in the game it's so good in it's role of flanker or sniper. Best tier 7 med for sure and I NEVER use gold rounds.
Great review as always Jingles, as for the use of gold I think it gives an honest depiction of what to expect with the comet. And been that you can use in game currency to buy gold ammo, I have no problem seeing it used. Keep doing what you do best!
There's always someone who can't resist taking a shot at the guy in the hi-vis vest, but usually it's fine. For this weekend I can get shot as much as any of the GI's and am allowed a pistol for self defence only. I'll have to actually take cover like everyone else.
While I agree with Jingles that carrying a large amount of sabot rounds is a good idea, I don't think that you need to use it first. The Crusader didn't have this problem, but the Cromwell starts to engage machines that are big, as in really big. To take them down, you need to have flanking fire, and really isn't this how we should be used to fighting if we're in a medium tank? It has 148mm of penetration. Way I see it, not many tanks have 148mm of side armor. That being said, this like all fast tanks, is a vehicle that REALLY needs others backing it up. It won't last long at all by itself.
The Comet really doesn't need to fire this much gold, especially on T29's/ Churchill 1's etc. Excellent tank and very happy with mine..would recommend the British medium line to anyone.
Thought I would throw in a little bit of info on the 34-1. The gun is pretty great, and the turret is brilliant for hull down, but the penalty for this is steep. Its hull can be penned by German flak cannons. Its entire right side (right side of the front too) is made out of low health fuel tanks. It has almost no gun depression. Finally it fairly slow for a medium (an IS is almost as maneuverable). Despite this, it is a fun tank when it isn't on fire, IF you can handle no gun depression.
I'm surprised you discount the usefulness of the 7.5cm L/100 so quickly Jingles. It served me well on the Panther. Yes it would have been better to have a gun that did noticeable damage, but that pen was nice at the ranges you want to engage in using the Panther. Because its armor sure as heck isn't going to bounce much, not even rounds that had no chance of penetrating it historically.
Jingles, I find that the standard AP ammo is adequate to deal with anything the comet can face. You just have to play it like the T-34. You know, flanking.
The comet is very good if you play it right, it just needs to be a support tank, this is not the tank you take into frontal confrontations, this is the tank you use to keep enemies pinned with your rof whilst your heavies move up, this is the tank you use to mop up overly aggressive lights, this is the tank you use to hunt down lone targets at the end of the match. The heavies have very comparable dpm to other nations, they just swap out alpha damage for rof, they usually have good pen/acc too
Next update - VK 30.01(MAN). Basically, a real Panther as it was in WWII, though slightly less armored and not even a real tank, having never left the drawing board.
When I went through the Comet, I never fired a lick of gold ammo. I used it as it should be by playing it as support. Getting around and putting the DPM to work
I think of all the battles I've done in my Comet, I've used less than 30 premium shells. The only time I ever really needed them is when tanks like the Type 59 charge at me. That gun can easily pen most tanks it faces and the ones it can't, you will most likely be shooting at them from the side so you will be able to pen them.
All depends where it hits. The main frontal strip of the Churchill has over 150mm of armour, but only on a spcific spot. I expect his 144mm penetration shot hit there.
Personally I loved the Comet, my biggest problem was that it was actually counted as a heavy tank by the matchmaker, which is why Jingles got into those type of matches I guess. And while it is a fantastic tier 7 medium tank, it makes an absolutely s**t tier 7 heavy tank, which is what the game seems to expect it to perform as and compete with. Not sure if it still counts as a heavy for the purposes of MM but when I played it it was :D Keep up the good work Jingles, look forward to your new vids!
I live near duxford airfield and drive past it to work. At the gate they have a comet tank under a hurricane fighter. The Comet is TINY! Really surprised me. Also the exhaust is different on the real life one. Maybe a diferent version or something
I never run my Comet with premium ammo and I have done quite well with it. You just have to aim well and pick your shots on those you know you can pen, or use your speed to get around the bigger targets.
You guys do realize that in most of the situations in the video Jingles doesn't really have any other choice but to hold them head-on, right? In 21:32 he states that pretty clearly. Again at 29:07 if Jingles and crew had chosen not to have held their side by direct confrontation, then the eastern flank probably would have collapsed.
Low dmg out put is not fixed by having a high fire rate. The whole thing that makes having a high fire rate great is normally that you trade alpha and pen for speed and dmg output.
A big problem that the Comet has reputation wise is that it doesn't feel fast. Before I fell in love with it, I'd occasionally be heard explaining to friends, "Yeah it's just not very fast, I mean I'm only doing......... 55 km/h, so apparently it isn't that slow!". I did find watching people driving the Comet on TH-cam very useful though. I had an "Oh, so that's what I'm meant to do with it!" moment. The Comet =/= the Cromwell, and as such should not be driven in the same way!
One more thing I would recommend from experience. Unless your loader already has Safe Stowage, mounting Wet Ammo Rack might not be a bad idea. This tank seems to get ammo racked about every other game.
I didn't really get how to use this thing until I was on the last 30k to my centurion,I learned how to hull down and troll everything equal tier, I fell into the trap telling my friends it doesn't crom ..well, and then I got the centurion and missed the comet mopping up t29s and tigers that populated the server( console)
in my Russian airsoft team, we have a WW2 reenactment of Stalingrad. we have a part of a town that is already destroyed during the war, for the reenactment if you get shot you have to either play dead or crawl back to base If you have another respawn. it's a load of fun but not that many people like playing the Germans :(
Here's an idea for a vid to put up on Monday or Tuesday: More "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep". I doubt I'm alone in wanting to see more of that series, however I don't know how much time it would take to make compared to how long it would take to make a "Mingles with Jingles" video.
I was crap with the cromwell and was only grinding through to get my hands on the centurion and wasn't expecting much from the comet ......But I had enough free xp to do tracks and turret and blow me down 1st game I got 4 kills and did 1800 dmg in a tier 8 game a few games later and i mean only a few I managed to kill a kv 3 + 2 stug III and I forget the other 1 and I also managed 2.1k dmg .......apart from the turret and tracks I was basically stock I love this tank and am looking forward to playing many more games in it big thanks to you and QB for convincing me to play the british medium line with your entertaining and informative video's......This tank is now my favorite along with my Su-152 and IS-3
Agreed, and when you have the DPM of a tier 5 makes it even more frustrating. Jingles I feel like giving up this branch of the german meds, since i am already on the Indien and loving that branch a lot.
I do concur that the Cromwell can seem a bit *too* fast at times. I've had some excellent matches in the thing, but I've also had a lot of matches where I rather noobishly rush out way ahead of my team and die within 30 seconds. After watching this video I've decided to go with the Comet as my first Tier 7 medium tank purchase. Wish me luck.
I found I never really had any problems with the Comet's weak gun. I found it effective against all tier 7 tanks, and most tier 8s with the exception of the KV-4. Tier 9 Mediums were easy to hurt, it is however useless against all tier 9 heavy's with the exception of maybe the IS-8, but then if you come across these tanks just get around the flank, or fire APCR at frontal weak spots. With the gun mantlet, just jink back and forth while being hull down at medium range and you'll be surprised at how long you live, and how much of a beating that mantlet can take.
The 75 L/70 in the Schmalturm (VK30.02D/Panther) would perform similarily(since turret modifies RPM, accuracy and so on) , and in the VK's case it would be a similar gun fitted to a, in many cases superior platform.
I go through the sides and rear of more or less anything I meet in the Comet, and I have the mobility to get in those positions. I bring 6 gold shells only, for when I'm alone against tough targets at end of game.
I just got this tank and i really like it. I dont understand how some people say this is a bad tank. I mean i havent even fully upgraded it and my crew is about 90% but im still doing great with this tank(without gold aka noob ammo). This will definately be keeper tank, cant imagine how awesome it will be when i get best gun and better tank crew.
UndercoverGamer I get the impression that most people dislike it because its main weakpoint is low non-premium penetration. As a result it can really struggle in Tier 9 games, in particular when there is no chance to flank. This is just after coming from the Cromwell, which has very good pen per tier. Furthermore, even though it's actually quite a mobile tank, anything will feel sluggish just after that. That said, I love it. Especially the amazing soft stats. By complete contrast it feels almost OP in tier 7 matches. In the 300 or so games I've had, there have actually been comparatively few tier 9 - most are 8 or 7.
"great" as in your crew dies to frontal shots, getting ammoracked when anything hits the hull and getting lit on fire from frontal hits, aside from it having a very poorly armored hull and getting modules damaged like crazy, it's a great tank to play.
I think the centurions are the most comfortable tanks in that line to drive unless you're really good. Maybe because it has a strongly defined role as a hull down tank, so you naturally gravitate towards areas where you can play like that. Still, the cruisers are decent tanks, the Covenanter is good, and everything above is excellent in my book. It's just that they are more demanding of their player in order to get a good result.
It wasn't really meant as a bragging post, just to say that even if an average joe like myself can do good in it (relative to my other tanks I play) then it's definitely worth picking up.
The Comet works just fine with normal AP ammo: start playing like a medium. AP ammo is not necessary most of the time, and I always run a profit in the Comet. It is quite natural you "bleed credits" when you fire premium ammo all the time, and even use it shoot away cover. I'm sorry Jingles but I think you will have to re-learn this tank by loading it out with only ~5 prem rounds and only using them when absolutely necessary.
I initially absolutely hated this tank because the gun seemed hardly adequate to deal with tier 8 and 9 tanks, but about 50k xp in I really learned to love it as one of the best tanks I ever played, and definitely my favourite tier 7 tank...and then I unlocked the T-34-1. Hooly shit that thing is a monster. Facehugging IS's, Tigers and T29s to death all day long. "Just get through the upper part of my turret, I dare you." That's the only thing they can shoot at.
The comet has some really good matchmaking placing him into hightier quite often. And when hightier it is a really really good tank. My biggest Problem with it was the gun though. It just was no significant upgrade from the cromwell.
I have a problem with any Tank that needs premium ammo just to be competitive. Especially if an operator as competent as Jingles feels he needs it. I wont be grinding to get a Comet anytime soon unless WG decides to buff the gun. But them I think premium ammo shouldn't be allowed period. Thanks for the good review Jingles
Jingles, you should revisit the tier 7 mediums (except for the Panther)! I'm pretty positive you'll love the T-20's speed, alpha and gun depression; the brutal VK3002DB with its troll armor, and the brawling 8.8, which can do wonders, if you play the DB like a psycho; the T-43's speed, amazing DPM and ok turret armor. You already like the KV-13...Tier 7 mediums are quite good, IF you give them the LOVE they deserve. The Panther is no medium imo, but it's one of the best tier 7 support tanks. :)
As an experienced light tanker driver I find the Comet's AP shells have enough pen. Using 150 pen in tier 10 games with a piddly light tank teaches you quite a bit about gunnery in WoT.
I'm kind of glad there wont be any videos for a few days. I need some time to watch the old ones I've missed

Mediums rule the battlefield, but its starting at t8 (the t20is good too).
I'd say the Comet needs some kind of buff. None of the 7-tier mediums seem to be good and I've got agree with Jingles on this except for the Panther. We could use a new comet review with 9.5 or even 9.6 update.
9:35
Actually, since the 8.5 buff, the 30.02 with the L/70 gets pretty much the same rate of fire as the Comet when the gun is mounted on the Schmalturm
I play the comet without any premium ammo. APCR is for kids.
No, it's for tanks that cant rely on AP to penetrate tanks.
Mysterious100 :3
week spots, side armor, rear armor, etc
Wyatt Triplett try a T29 in a tier IX match with the stock gun.
raging 10 year old You have no idea then
This is one of my favorite tanks, I love the gun depression and the turret front is actually really bouncy, as long it isn't a tier 9 game.
Too much premium ammo... :-/
Definitely. Learning to get a good result in the Comet without using premium ammo will definitely make you a better player, no question about it.
I like the kv-13 the best
its good, but the gun depression kind of kills it off for me.
Mancboy2000 it would have been alright if only it had more turret armor…
Then you could trick the enemy into shooting your turret first, then exposing your tank with the bad gun depression, then pop back into hull down. But it doesn't work with the KV-13, because the weakest point of it's armor is the turret dammit. :(

Pathetic jingles, I make 30000cr a match without ever firing premium those who fling premium everywhere for no reason just are bad at the game.
premium ammo for children, standard ap is for men.

Have a Great weekend Jingles, don't worry about the videos i think we all can wait a few days.
Jingles always gets me back to W.o.T when i don't feel like it.. keep it up man

The British lag of sloped armour is actually a conscious choice to save wight on the tank. They chose agility instead of protection. Love the vid.

Check out the chieftain's Inside the turret for the Comet, it's a really cramped little tank, you weren't getting out in a hurry.
You might want to count them again. I'm old but I can still manage counting to two.
The Comet is one of my favourite tanks in the game it's so good in it's role of flanker or sniper. Best tier 7 med for sure and I NEVER use gold rounds.

There's always someone who can't resist taking a shot at the guy in the hi-vis vest, but usually it's fine. For this weekend I can get shot as much as any of the GI's and am allowed a pistol for self defence only. I'll have to actually take cover like everyone else.
I think its their new space saving video encoding. Apparently it almost half's the size though we can clearly see the effects of this here.
One of the best things of the comet is the awesome gun depression, that's why i also like it that much.
God , I would love to be one tenth as good as jungles is. The best way to play this game is with a platoon though. Great video Jingles.
Had some fun with Jingles, doing TC's on SEA last night.
just did 3700dmg with standard ammo in that thing. Its really awesome! GL to you guys and have fun!
Jingles, you forgot about the Panthers 7.5cm l/100! It has the highest pen for all the tier 7 mediums at 198.
That was all the answers I needed, you are beyond rescue.
This was great on quickybabys livestream, especially the second match.
Jingles used to do that, but with the "sharing account" rule, he doesn't want to be the reason you lose your account. And WG watches his videos.
Because 10% more view range now beats 3% more view range three months from now when you finally get the skill to 100%.
I haven't forgotten about the Comedy Gun, more's the pity, I wish I could.
When I went through the Comet, I never fired a lick of gold ammo. I used it as it should be by playing it as support. Getting around and putting the DPM to work
Jingles, snap shot only working during turret rotation. Smooth ride is on the move
Not sure if it still counts as a heavy for the purposes of MM but when I played it it was :D
Keep up the good work Jingles, look forward to your new vids!
It really depends who is playing it.
I love it, it is my favourite tank. I find after playing it for so long, I know exactly where my shots will veer.
T-34-1 is pretty cool, accuracy could be better, but it hits. And the turret is awesome.
Nice video, too. Might get Comet.
Fair play Jingles. Have a good weekend.
Low dmg out put is not fixed by having a high fire rate. The whole thing that makes having a high fire rate great is normally that you trade alpha and pen for speed and dmg output.
I feel like the Comet specifically but all the Tier 7 mediums need some type of buff to their guns
t-34-1 does not
A big problem that the Comet has reputation wise is that it doesn't feel fast.
I didn't really get how to use this thing until I was on the last 30k to my centurion,I learned how to hull down and troll everything equal tier, I fell into the trap telling my friends it doesn't crom ..well, and then I got the centurion and missed the comet mopping up t29s and tigers that populated the server( console)
also said that
the panthers upgraded gun has good accuracy, good pen and a nice rof
U ain't old and slow Jingles mate, it's old and gold :)
in my Russian airsoft team, we have a WW2 reenactment of Stalingrad. we have a part of a town that is already destroyed during the war, for the reenactment if you get shot you have to either play dead or crawl back to base If you have another respawn.
it's a load of fun but not that many people like playing the Germans :(
Here's an idea for a vid to put up on Monday or Tuesday: More "Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep".
I doubt I'm alone in wanting to see more of that series, however I don't know how much time it would take to make compared to how long it would take to make a "Mingles with Jingles" video.
i use coated optics instead of vents and that gives me considerably more spotting damage XP per game than i would otherwise
I don't know about you Jingles but I had a blast with the T-34-1. Sniping out T34 heavies from 300 meters away wasn't trouble for me. xD
poor quickybaby, seeing jingles getting recognised all the time and nobody knows him, yet.
Rim going to America for two weeks. Going to miss your videos
They named it because it's a new 17 pounder specifically made for the Comet.
It was removed in patch 8.6, but will be added again in the future.
jingles, just wanted to say thanks for to replays. it helps when developing a new unit.
I agree jingles. I'd always play the cromwell as if it were a light tank. I just got my comet yesterday and its perfect in speed ;)
Man I miss going airsofting, my local field,aera48 was closed down by the city.
