    China is one of the world’s most fascinating and complicated countries, and its cities seem to get bigger every year. Considered a rural society just a few decades ago, China today is home to the world’s largest urban population.
    In this travel documentary, I take you on a journey through some of the country’s most interesting cities. While many city centers are filled with modern skyscrapers, we also search for more traditional neighborhoods, historic sites, tranquil parks, special events, and cultural activities. We look at the rapid changes China is undergoing in its urbanization process, and mention some of the challenges the country is facing.
    From the modern megacities of Shenzhen and Guangzhou we travel to the ancient centers of Beijing and Xian. We visit the popular Summer holiday beaches of coastal Qingdao, and the exciting Winter festivals of Harbin. From the streets of fusion cities like Hong Kong and Macau we continue our journey to Tibetan Lhasa, located on the Rooftop of the World. We also take a look at the disappearing alleys of old Kashgar, in the controversial Xinjiang region, and the empty streets of Ordos, China’s best known ghost town. And we explore the expanding urban centers along the Yangtze river, including Wuhan and Chongqing, all the way to the fast paced metropolis of Shanghai.
    I traveled through China independently for more than a decade, on several occasions. The footage in this video was shot between 2010 and 2019, and is accompanied by background information. For more in-depth information on each place, I recommend to read, watch, and listen to as many different sources as you can.

    Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
    We begin our journey in Shanghai, one of China’s most remarkable cities. Its skyline has become a symbol for the country’s economic growth. While we look at the modern face of Shanghai, I also visit some more traditional neighborhoods, even though they are disappearing fast.
    We travel onwards to Harbin, in the North of China, to visit a spectacular Winter festival, with sculptures and palaces made from ice and snow, which draws millions of tourists every year. Beijing, the nation’s capital, is our next destination. This is the political heart of China, but also brims with culture and creativity.
    In Chongqing, located on the mighty Yangtze river, we witness some of the urbanization process, while in Lhasa we look at the traditions and customs of the Tibetan people. We travel onwards to Xian, where we walk on the ancient city walls, eat some delicious food in the Muslim neighborhood, and visit the magnificent Terracotta Army.
    After Xian, we travel to Ordos, China’s best known ‘ghost town’. After which we continue our way to Kashgar, in the now controversial Xinjiang region, where the faith of the Uyghur people hangs in the balance. Qingdao is our next destination, one of China’s most beautiful coastal cities, where we also explore some of the suburbs.
    Hong Kong is perhaps the perfect mix between East and West. A short ferry ride away, Macau retains some of its Portuguese history, but is also known as the ‘Las Vegas of Asia’ with its many casinos. Just across the ‘border’ from both, Shenzhen has grown into one of China’s largest and wealthiest cities, while it was just a small fishing village 40 years ago.
    The last two cities we visit are Wuhan and Guangzhou, which have their own distinct character. I visited Wuhan before the pandemic broke out, and found a sprawling city. Guangzhou is also a vast metropolis, and is known for its Cantonese culture and cuisine.

    Hi, just for discussion, I wonder why you use invade at the Tibet part, because simply Tibet region was conquered by Mongolians and become a part of the Yuan Mongolian dynasty, since then is has become a part of China through every dynasty. Including the ROC, and PRC just had the troops walked into Tibet to claim actual control, no violence and combat take part, the remaining ROC soldiers chose to switch to be PLAs. According to your attitude, should I describe Hawi as a independent region invaded by US? I feel your video is very nice made and you spend a lot time to make this a great video, however, I hope you can present less stereotype China to the TH-cam audiences.

    I am Chinese, and by the way, I would like to answer the question raised by the blogger about our country's network blockade. What I want to say is that being able to speak here actually means that the country's control over this area is relatively relaxed. Our country's network blockade is actually for two purposes. 1. It is to break away from the control of American hegemony. We have learned from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that our country must have an independent network, Because these two countries were randomly cut off by the United States during their war with the United States, resulting in the paralysis of the entire national network, our country attaches great importance to this. 2. To prevent unrest, many people do not know that our country used to be able to use Google services, but a major event occurred in 2008 when a terrorist organization planned a terrorist attack on Facebook, The location took place in our Xinjiang region, causing widespread unrest in our country. The country put in a lot of effort to govern without success, so it made representations to Google and Facebook. However, the two companies refused to provide information about terrorist organizations on the grounds of violating personal privacy rights. As a result, our country realized that it was necessary to firmly control technology and talent in its own hands only by independently building a network, So our country has developed the Great Firewall of the Internet to prevent interference from foreign forces. Now, our country has relaxed many controls. Although we still cannot use Google services, we can use some special means to search for foreign inquiries. Our country's original intention is to prevent some brainless and simplistic people from being brainwashed. Most of the people who search for information are neutral in concept and have their own judgment ability

      Superior dissemination of values seems like an objective description, yet it's infused with much subjective, non-objective, and unsupported content. For instance:
      1. "Tibet is being invaded." Have you truly delved into Tibet's history? Are you aware of the previous serfdom in Tibet? Do you know how the majority of Tibetan farmers view this issue?
      2. The "millions detained in Xinjiang's concentration camps." Have you personally witnessed these camps? Do you understand the scale camps for millions of people to be detained in such facilities? Need how much vast land area, staff required for management, food, and medical supplies?
      It's remarkable how things unknown to billions of Chinese people are conveniently discovered and "stated as facts" by those briefly traveling, akin to a discovery by Sherlock Holmes.

    • @markmraven

      How do I look up that major terrorist attack? I'm not getting results on Google. I also can't find any information about the US shutting down the internet in Afghanistan or Iraq.
      It turns out websites are stored on servers and can be accessed through submarine cables, satellites, and radio towers which are owned by internet service providers. To shutdown internet access, governments have to tell the internet service providers what they want done. The Taliban is able to censor internet in parts of Afghanistan because they occupy the ISP centers. Countries like India and Zimbabwe regularly shut down internet by threatening to arrest local providers. Internet shut down is condemned by the UN, but any country can do it.
      Going a little deeper down this rabbit hole, The Great Firewall is an exchange between ISPs inside and outside of China. It's purely a means of controlling information

    • @markmraven

      @@user-ms9up7gs3c yeah, that would do it. I found that early this year, China lost a contract to build a submarine cable running from Europe to Asia. Can you link an article about the US cutting cables in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars? They're land locked countries and cables are only used in the oceans. IXPs are connections between ISPs that communicate data between providers faster. The Great Firewall is three IXPs being used as "internet customs". It slows down communication in and out of the country and doesn't have any thing to do with submarine cables. There are cables along China's coast connecting cities. The APCN-2 goes directly from Lantao Island to Chongming

    • @Kaipi1988

      No... sorry but the censorship is very obvious to anyone who isn't a CCP sympathizer and propogandist that it isn't there to protect the people but only the CCP. How many Chinese know the truth about Tiananmen square and how the government ran people over in tanks and hundreds of not thousands of students were killed? Your own replies in regards to your ignorance on how the CCP has locked away at least a million people in Xinjiang is proof enough of the CCP's propaganda and censorship. Hell if you aren't part of the communist party yourself (which you likely are) odds are you are using a VPN and are simply lying to spread propaganda.

    In the minds of Westerners, there are some prejudices and inherent impressions about China. What I want to say is that China has uneven development and a large gap between rich and poor. China is a super-large developing country, but China’s development , the speed of change is much faster than what Western countries think. Thanks to the rapid economic development, low production costs and high efficiency, highly educated workers, and industrial upgrading towards high technology, it is happening every day in many places and cities. Earth-shaking changes, your video reminded me of what it was like when I was a child, and obviously there have been too many changes now. But the difference between the Chinese cities shown in your camera and the ones I have been to is very significant, perhaps because your filming was more than a decade ago. The air in China is noticeably better now, and the streets are cleaner and cleaner.
    Also, I am surprised that you used the term 'invasion of Tibet'. Because since the Yuan Dynasty in China, Tibet has always belonged to the Chinese government, and you can even see the Yonghe Palace in Beijing, the place where Tibetan religious leaders lived for a long time during the Qing Dynasty. In 1950, the CPC expelled the Dalai Lama and abolished the serfdom. In addition to the then Tibetan warlord leader, the peasants were very supportive of the CPC

Unfortunately, they themselves are not aware of this issue. I hope more and more people will come to China for tourism. The Chinese government has not restricted tourists from visiting Xinjiang and Tibet. Communicating with local people and seeing the real social situation in China will change your perception. Either it's a time of smog, or Kashgar in Xinjiang shows rain and mud, and all of them are hardworking workers, with nothing modern or other, only showing backwardness and poverty.
    2. Talking about China's invasion of Tibet, talking about one million concentration camps in Xinjiang.

    Great video and enjoyed a lot. But honestly I don't understand why you think replacing slums and poorly built neighborhoods is a negative thing. It's a necessary process that any country needs to go through when emerging out of poverty. By the way, it might be true that the type of developments that are replacing those neighborhoods are not people oriented. That's a problem with poor/outdated urban planning. But replacing poorly built neighborhoods is not a choice. And I think China is learning fast from other places, especially from European cities, about people oriented urban planning.

      Great points. But I think his point is that slums are being replaced with the same copy/paste development you find in any modern place. However, what China mistake from Europe is that the slums are improved in character with the city; London looks very different from Paris/Rome/Berlin/Moscow even though all have modern tower clusters - you know when you’re in Moscow vs Rome. In China, there’s not much different from the built up part of Chongqing vs Shanghai or Guangzhou for example other than terrible and climate (and dialect/spoken language).

    • @Earth098
      @Earth098 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@rchilde1 I agree, and that's why I said the problem is with poor urban planning. Slums should be replaced by well planned development. Chinese people know that around 2010, the West misjudged China, thinking that China was about to carry out political reforms based on one-person-one-vote democracy, so international media capital entered China and bought a lot of Chinese media shares, but their expectations fell through. . If a country is a one-person-one-vote democracy, then the West can control the media in that country, and then brainwash and control voters, then it can control that country.

I don't want to live in a sweltering traditional house and be watched by modern Westerners like monkeys while praising us for preserving our nation's traditional culture. Now we live in air-conditioned modern buildings and wear loose, comfortable clothes. This is not only supported by the government, but also our own choice. 1. Tibet covers an area of 1.2028 million square kilometers, accounting for about 1/8 of the total area of the country, second only to Xinjiang, with a permanent population of 3.66 million. After the unification of China in the Yuan Dynasty (1271), Tibet was formally brought under the direct jurisdiction of the Chinese central government. Before 1959, Tibet was practiced as serfdom until 1959 when the Chinese government exercised full direct jurisdiction over Tibet. If you think that living in If the serf society is happy, then you may be a serf owner.
    2. Xinjiang, the largest provincial-level administrative region in China, has a land border of more than 5,600 kilometers, an area of 1,664,900 square kilometers, accounting for about one-sixth of China's total land area, and a population of 25.89 million. In the Han Dynasty, the central government began to set up local government agencies in various parts of the Western Regions. In 127 AD, all the countries in the Western Regions belonged to the Han Dynasty. In 1884, the Qing government established a province in Xinjiang. Regarding the 1 million people you said were imprisoned, then I would like to ask, how many people are there in your city, how many people are there in your university, and how big is the area? A university like yours can accommodate 1 million people. These places must be far away from towns, so as not to attract people's attention and cause panic and negative effects, and there must be a road leading to this place to transport 1 million people's daily necessities, and vehicles come and go It is very frequent and the fleet is huge. You can find it along the roads and railways through your trusted Google Maps. This is definitely not something that can be solved by helicopters, and the transport plane must have an airport. Don't tell me you can't find it, you even found the silo with a diameter of more than ten meters (actually it is the foundation of the wind turbine). Or to say that 1 million people are hidden underground, and the daily necessities of 1 million people are also transported underground. It seems unrealistic. If it is true, then 1 million people must be imprisoned separately. How many underground tunnels have to be dug? ? There is no underground building that can hide 50,000 people, right? Even on the ground, a prison of 50,000 people is definitely not small, or 20 such a large place, can't you find it on Google Maps? Why is no one looking for it? I have also seen the pictures sent by your media, and they are very funny. It is hard to say if it is a normal prison, or is it that there are no prisoners in prisons?
    3. Beijing, at the end of 2020, the permanent resident population of Beijing was 21.893 million. It has only been 34 years since 1989. The college students were about 20 years old back then, and they are only 60 years old now, and they have not even retired. Why don’t you ask a 60-year-old Beijinger? The most popular video on the Internet is a person stopping a group of tanks, but there is no follow-up video, why? Because the man behind climbed into the tank and was dragged away by his friends, how did your media describe it? Run over, that's what you imagined in your head, and that's what the media wants you to think. Do you know how I see it? It was a documentary filmed by your foreign media, and the female college student who led the movement was interviewed. She said that it was the students led by her who protested at the beginning, but it was only a peaceful protest. Later, the state leaders received her, and the interview ended. Afterwards, she led the students to disband and return to school, but most of the people in the square did not leave. Those who were eating hamburgers and drinking Coke, the square was full of garbage from the hamburgers and Coke they threw. At that time, the people were still very poor, and the students She couldn't afford hamburgers and coke. She knew that those were not students, and then there was an incident of soldiers being hung on pillars and burned alive. , ran abroad, these documentaries were also filmed after she fled the country, none of you have watched these documentaries, right? The young people who experienced these incidents are only 60 years old now, and they are not dead yet, so start spreading rumors? You can go to the streets of Beijing and ask them if they support the Beijing leadership.
    4. The environment in China is changing really fast. Maybe your economy is developing better, and many things have settled down. All kinds of buildings and living facilities have met the needs of the people, and the changes are not so big. But China is not, China is the world The second largest economy (meaning that the government is very rich), but the per capita GDP ranks more than 70 in the world. This has led to the rapid development of Chinese society and a better living environment, but the people's wages are still not as good as In fact, the country is very rich, but the people have little money, but the country has invested heavily in infrastructure construction, and the people's living standards have improved. Unfortunately, these speeds still cannot keep up with the people's desire. The people hope to become richer, and the people's Desire makes people forget the suffering they have experienced before. The society is developing too fast, but the treatment of the people has not improved (even though the social living environment has improved, but the personal economy has not improved), which makes people feel very stressed. This is the problem China is facing now.

      @@stefhoffer According to Chinese law, those who want to do business in China should put there servicer in China. This requirement is the same to both Chinese companies and foreign companies. Everyone who wants to do business in China should abide by Chinese law, right? If they don’t want to abide by the law, their business is illegal in China. So, I would rather say it is YT and Facebook who don’t want to do business in China rather than China banned certain internet traffic.
      For example, if someone wants to built a bridge across a river, the government in one side says: ok, you can built a bridge across the river, but you should meet our requirements in our side. The builder says I am not sure I can meet your requirements, so I give up. If you are someone who want to cross the river, do you think who is blocking the building of the bridge?

In fact since ancient times till Today there is no Chinese, Chinese race, Chinese ethnic group, Chinese DNA, Chinese spoken language, Chinese written language, Chinese civilization, Chinese history ..... those are the fabrication of the Department of Propaganda of CCP since 1950s.

      @@roro4787 govt says poverty has been eliminated. They never admin to reality. Having been there myself without government minders; I can clearly say China does have great cities with pockets of modernity but even there one can’t enjoy the success the US has - simple things like clean drinking water that’s not bottled, clean bathrooms with free toilet paper (not just in “foreign hotels”, and a range of development with their characteristics. NY and Chi are still the world’s #1 and #2 central business districts; that ain’t changing. So yes while these areas are nice, they don’t compare well to the US or even HK. The Qing Dynasty and the people’s Republic of China are not the same. Even kids know that. Tibet was an independent country when the Peoples Republic of China illegally invaded and occupied the lands forcefully. That’s a Fact. The invasion was also condemned internationally. No. Europe and certainly the US have not fallen behind at all. It’s more like certain areas of Chinese mega cities have caught up with the west. Get out of those cities and most of China is still 3rd world, with Chinese characteristics. Chinas $6 trillion “honest” GDP is far behind the $25 trillion GDP of the us (EU not that far away) but the CCP has to inflate their data to try to compete.

If you make USA travel videos, are you gonna describe how American massacre indigenous people and racist attack on minorities and the weaponry supplies they provide for genocide Afghanistanis, Iraqis, looting African resources?
