What you see on Miyaki's guitar is a capo tasto. It is not for dampening. It, kind of, moves the nut, in this case, two halftones up. Then the lose strings are moved two halftones up in key. Its very common in classical guitar. I think its the first time I see it on an electric guitar. It is probably used to be able to play fast (by using lose strings) without retuning the guitar. Something that is in particular important in this song.
Or .... maybe you are right. I see now that what Miyako has upp there on the neck is moved. Its on the first or second fret. And it looks kind of fluffy. OK .... maybe it is a dampener that simply avoids lose strings from ringing, creating a clearer tone. Shall I remove the comment above? Nope, let it be. Its interesting info. "SSS" intro is the only time I've seen her use the mute, and it is seen here also at their recent Korean performance: th-cam.com/video/Zk5_csm_HX4/w-d-xo.html "Winds Of Transylvania" LIVE 2021 has a couple instance during their "twin solo" that even caused Midori to quickly turn her head. As a guitarist myself, I find it "humanizing" to see any (inconsequential) 'flaw' in their primarily-perfect performances, and gives me 'hope' in my own progress as a musician. Seeing & hearing Midori's speed, precision and lack of (what I call) "unanticipated notes" shows the advantage of being "schooled" over being "self-taught" (imo)... a progression I admire Miyako's willingness to continue to develop, with Midori's guidance, they have referred to in past.
@@dregeye Yeah! I understood my mistake. I have never seen such a ring dampener before. It can only be used if you never plan to play on open strings. Now, the playing style of M&M do not consist of much open strings I assume.
@@rolandkarlsson7072 Because it is elastic she just slides it over the nut toward the tuners & it's as if it's not there, does not interfere with the fretboard. I have tried using a 'fuzzy' hair-tie, but I rarely play open strings and very rarely 'tap'. I think they are called "string dampener" (by the 'pros') and a search for "guitar string dampener" brought up all the info one could want or need (!)

While polar opposites they have practiced together away from the band chasing perfection and have influenced each other in the process. Lest we forget Haruna driving this group non-stop with Fami lighting the stage with playing and personality. Lastly, we have the stage Napoleon, Asami dominating the stage, the band and the entire show.
