    Wonder if these leach Aluminum like the Marine pure bricks? I do use the marine pure spheres in my current set up. Just trying to decide on what to use for the new build. Will definitely be a minimalistic aquascape. Time to do some research!

      How do you know marine pure leach Aluminum? I hope not because I have lots and lots of them in my tank and starting my frag tank with them. I am about ready to do a ICP test so If I come back with aluminum I guess that would be why! I definetly don think they work to lower nitrates like they claim!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both do a similar job. We've been using the Brightwell bricks most frequently these days as the dimples on the bricks help keep it suspended a little, which lessens the amount of detritus buildup under and around the brick.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Microbacter is formulated for saltwater, but there are some great freshwater bacterial boosters out there. We're focused on the saltwater side of things, so we don't sell them. The biological media could be used on both fresh or saltwater, however 🙂

    Hi Thomas,
    The reviews on the product page say that the brick disintegrates after a few months. Is this true or have they changed the formula since then? How many would I need for a 330 gal tank? Love your videos. Keep them coming.

      Hey there, being that it is made of aragonite it will break down and dissolve if your ph is too low, but this is a feature, buffering ph until it’s fully dissolved. The key with calcarious media’s is to keep that ph up >7.8

    I have the small cubes of the xport in my nano. Should i replace them or clean them after months of them being in my tank? Btw you guys help me on so many different levels. Thanks keep it up :-)

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't need to be replaced and shouldn't be washed. Washing them would remove much of the beneficial bacteria that they're there to cultivate

    • @JTReef
      @JTReef 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can swish the cubes around in a bucket of tank water to remove detritus and such. If they get really nasty that is. I wouldn’t go rinsing them under fresh water though. Bacteria are a lot more resilient than you think.

    Does this mean you can cycle sand or anything you want to add to our tank with MB7? I have dead sand and have lost a lot of sand from vacuuming. Or would it be better to add live sand? I would rather use this bag of aragonite sand though. Also can I seed any balls that arent made by brightwell with mb7? Soak 24 hours full strength MB 7?.

    Thomas I have a 9 month old tank and my nitrates are always high no matter what I do. I was wondering if I can add this to my current tank to help the bacteria load ? I trust your opinion.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can definitely add biological media like this to an existing tank. While it may not completely solve your nitrate issue, it can be a part of the solution for sure! 😀

    Is it bad to add a brick to a brand new tank with no bioload? Seems like the bacteria would have nothing to support it

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The population of bacteria is going to depend on the bioload. Like you mentioned, with little to no bioload, the bacteria population won't be as high as if you had a fully stocked tank. That said, I'm guessing that you eventually plan to add fish, so getting the filtration system ready for your future plans is always a good idea.

  • @brandon429

    What good does adding aerobic bacteria initially do for a brick that’s designed to select for anaerobic bacteria that come freely from the aquarium

    • @tunefully1792
      @tunefully1792 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would assume it's the same reasoning behind adding "seed" at the beginning of a tank. You get to purposefully choose the best strains at the earliest possible time which naturally takes longer.

    • @brandon429
      @brandon429 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tunefully1792 the brick isn’t there to filter ammonia, aerobically, hardly any water flows through it to make it effective for nitrification and bottle bac supplies aerobes. The purpose of the brick seems to be denitrification: with bacteria that don’t come from bottles of aerobic bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria migrate in via currents and direct transfer from surfaces in the tank that may contain some, we don’t get those from a bottle.

  • @jordanwitten1498

    So no flow in the container with the brick and microbacter? Reasoning?

    • @amoore311
      @amoore311 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The microbacter7 is dormant bacteria out of the bottle. The overnite soak allows the bacteria to colonize the brick, because the brick is all they will have to adhere to.

  • @ap6826
    @ap6826 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will this process be effective with microbacter start xlm? I want to give my established tank a little boost to better manage ammonia levels. I'm wondering if I should seed new xport cubes or the ones that are currently in my tank.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The same process can be used. That said, if you're adding extra xport cubes to an established system, you probably don't have to put any extra work into seeding them as they will get colonized with nitrifying bacteria quickly in an established tank.

      @@BRStv I have always been afraid to add anything to my tank that isnt live. Someone sold me some frags on brand new plugs and they turned crazy red and I think caused cyano! I have always been cautious even b4 the frags. I soak sand in mb7 before adding. And just add little by little. I want to change out some rockwork. Do I have to have live rock? I actually added them to a frag tank that cycling now but was going to remove later but afraid that might cause a problem with the frag tank later on and cause another cycle or something. I am on day 5 not much is happening. Ammonia and nitrites wont budge from 4 ppm ammonia (added what dr Tim said) and 0.25 nitrites

    • @BRStv

      Potentially. We've used it a few times on newer tanks and it seems to have helped. Hard to say if that was because of the MicroBacter7 or simply the tank maturing.

    Would you advise your buyers that they can use granular activated charcoal to clean up dirty water by just laying some out on the bottom of a sump?
    You're telling buyers that these bricks function differently, without requisite water channeling actually through them?
