The Ys series invokes the same feeling I love when playing a good Zelda game. Its this rush of a battle, knowing you have to be a one man army diving deep into the enemy dungeon. When I first entered Valestein Castle I know EXACTLY what to expect. Pure adrenalin! The same thing happens in Ys over and over. For example, entering Darm Tower, raiding Balduq prision (Nox version) and klimbing the ark. I just love it! Adol Christin is a true video game legend.
I love top-down Zelda and Ys games
to be honest though, zelda only compares when you fight boss battles, otherwise zelda gameplay (maybe aside the hyrule warriors spinoffs) feel rather slow compared to Ys. zelda is all about items but inventory movement and adaptability is taken into consideration for the gameflow, so it's not as direct as ys where you just slash away at enemies, maybe change your weapon type or activate a skill. i really prefer Ys style of battle, and the whole music team behind the games doing an excellent work getting me hyped for every new encounter.
I burst out laughing when the maids bowed to greet me.
And I find it goddamn terrifying. Because it shows that even after being turned into demonic automatons, they still have some semblence of their past selves. The main question that arises therefore: how much of their personalities is still intact? Are they, in fact, trapped in their new bodies, forced to attack Adol and any other human they come across, whether they like it or not?
I love them. They're probably my favorite monster design in the series.
ys soundtrack is never disappoint me, i literally play them every time when i played another game, just to feel the rush & catchiness

Jindo's arrangement is fantastic, but going back over what I could find of Mieko Ishikawa's work, she composed so many treasures. Part of what makes this go so hard is how much Ishikawa loves polyphony and chromaticism. Right up there with Ishibashi as one of my fav Falcom composers. Recommend checking out the Sharp X68000 arrangement too.
I highly recommend Dinosaur's FM Towns ver. OST. It has some of Ishikawa's best.
Sengoku Sorcerian too, this one was done entirely by her.
