Pay attention to surfaces and learn what to do to stay upright. Consider where the tire rubber contact can grab and deform and where it doesn't like on wet bricks, leaves, pine needles, road work covers, metal sheets, etc.
    Good stuff 👍

My piece of advice for new riders is that motorcycles riders get in wrecks. It is not a question of “if,” but a question of “when”? The best way to be prepared for this eventuality is to wear a full face helmet, a dedicated motorcycling jacket, motorcycling gloves and motorcycling boots. When you go down, you tend to go hands, face and body first to the pavement. Losing skin off of your legs is painful, but grinding your fingers, elbows, shoulders or face down to the bone can mean loss of ligaments and permanent loss of function, possibly a permanent career inhibiting injury, that could be prevented by wearing good protective gear. After 20 years of motorcycling, I had a wreck at about 50 mph from someone pulling out in front of me from a side street and instinctively grabbing too much front brake, before I had adequate weight transfer onto the front tire, which caused my front tire to lock, and the bike went down. The right side of the face of helmet was ground down past the fiberglass shell, into the protective foam. The friction between leather and my skin stripped the skin off of a few knuckles, despite wearing expensive motorcycle gloves, and my hand still bears scars to this day. The friction on my feet ripped the rubber sole off of one of my name brand motorcycling boots. And my blue jeans were shredded and I still have scars front road rash on both of my knees. Yes, modern bikes have antilock brakes, but this was on a 2001 bike with no antilock. And there is no guarantee that your exact catastrophic situation can be prevented with modern technology. The take home is to wear good gear, to help insure you can walk away from the inevitable “unlucky” event.

@@hippieschoppercorner My point is, if you want to encourage people to ride you don't give them the when you wreck scenario. If every body had your mindset, no one would ride. Although I appreciate the story, it sounds like you may have screwed up and had an accident, that's on you.

@GJM866 yes you absolutely do tell people that. If you were a rider, you would know. It's absolutely f'ing going to happen, if you ride long enough. Anyone with any experience will tell you that. Always be on guard and try and minimize your risk. If you can't handle that possibility, or the inherent dangers of riding a scoot, stay the hell off then!! Bottom line. I've ridden well over a million miles in my life and twice I've a cage wipe me out. It will absolutely happen. Even if your just a weekend warrior. The fact that you don't even ride, says that you shouldn't offer advice that you have 0 experience in. No disrespect but I call em like I see em homes

I've been riding over 30 years and I can only say, ride as much as you possibly can. Time in the saddle is where it's at. That's just my opinion. I'm no expert by any means. I would encourage new riders if nothing else, always wear a helmet. Enjoyed watching the video and those roads you ride on! Keep wrenching and riding and stay safe!

I'm 54 at got my license July 2024. I have about 2300 miles now. I did buy a 03 Road King prior to getting my msf class. Did about 17 miles and got my endorsement. It's been a blast. I try and practice slow speed when I can. The slow race in traffic and smooth stops. Get to work 45 minutes early to have fun in the parking lot with left turn, right turns. Turn from a stop, u turns. Granted I'm still 3 parking spots wide in my U turns. And that brings up why I bought my 03. I can't afford buying a cheap bike or lighter one. I could of used that money on buying my bike or a better version with lower miles had I not spend money on a cheap bike and up grade later. Aside from learning emergency swerves and stops. Dating my bike ever chance I get. My riding gear is top priority for me. And I feel I can always use more. I'm the guy on a road king dressed in gear to save my ugly face. In practice I do dress down to gloves and helmet. I've always had the passion to be good at whatever I learn. Maybe my brother would say great but I stay humble as their is always something to learn and or experience that I haven't done yet. Plus I enjoy doing my own mechanics. You take that sense of pride regardless of what anyone else thinks of your bike. I made it mine and I wretched on it. Don't know if I can add anything to help a new rider. This has been my experience and enjoying it.

I graduated from the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) course and got my m/c license July 1984. I’ve ridden cross country, commuted every day to work, even gone grocery shopping on the bike lots of times cuz that’s all I had. Winter, Summer didn’t matter. I’ve ridden smart. I’ve ridden stupid. Lots of heart stopping close calls. I rode dirt bikes in the beginning. I worked my way the line, 100cc, 400cc, 700cc, then at 25 I got my first Harley a 1992 FXRS-convertible. I’ve been collecting Harleys ever since. I just absolutely love it. It’s all I think about.
The greatest safety tip I learned was to use cars to my advantage. Let me explain. Cars can be useful in many situations. As blockers…nothing worse than being first at a traffic light. I’d rather have a few cars in front of me sitting at the intersection in case someone veers off or they run a red light. I want a few cars behind me so if someone fails to stop. Going through an intersection it’s nice to have a car on either side of me in case somebody runs the light coming the other way. Blockers they absorb the impact before you, that’s the idea. Cars are also useful to be “seen.” They’re less likely to pull out in front of you if you’re riding next to a large truck than if you were all alone coming down the road. Especially at night on small dark country roads.., having a car in front of you with their two headlight as opposed to your one. Plus if a deer jumps out it’ll most likely jump out in front of the car than you. Use the cars in traffic. Formulate your strategy

    1. If you purchase a motorcycle and have never ridden one, haul it home, have it delivered or get someone else to ride it home. 2. Practice with it on a road in the area of your home( stay off of major traffic roads. 3 Take a motorcycle safety course. 4.ride only low traffic roads accompanied by a experienced rider. 5. Dont even consider going on any group rides until you have 1 year accident free on the road SOLO, NO passengers. When you think you have riding mastered, remember death is only 1 mistake away.

I’m equestrian and learned how to drive in my mom’s VW bug.. The idea of looking into motorcycles is that they are so cheap to buy and build. The cars I built are so expensive for complete rusted out junk. So building the bike will be as much as riding the thing…. I’d like to get your ideas about getting into that first learner that are unique to bikes vs cars…

I don't know how many bicycles people have given me. Over the years they were all in pieces or they're about some pieces three wheelers too. Well we're coveied hit.. I want the school I was working said just go home and stay home and only come in once your little bit every week Well I had more to do than that. But I actually start to put the bikes together bicycles and I started writing in I have a one or two in my garage now The others are in the shed out back. But after the first block and I have written a bike in 4 years 40 years. The first block was like I thought I was going to fall off with me but then I got my second wind as they say and I still like riding a bicycle there's a trail that goes north into Michigan and down south it follows the old train tracks that ran through the back part of my property clear at the back. It was still running when I moved here in 1980 the train was they finally pulled the tracks out it's a nice place to ride and you don't have to worry about cars and stuff. Great video Thank you
