Incredible musicianship! While other bands sing love songs Rush sings of how life on Earth began. They are without a doubt the thinking man's band.

It's the lyrics that keep all of us true rush fans to continue to listen to their music over and over and over again. Hearing and listening to the truth about all aspects of life never gets old and remains what it is. The truth is likened unto a piece of undiscovered land that man has never seen nor stepped upon. It's pure and uncorrupted, and remains the same without distortion.

@@ProverbsChvs- Hmm, not me. Rush’s instrumental aspects are what do it for me. And I’m a vocalist and guitarist in my bands. I love Geddy and his voice and the lyrics. But it’s really the ALCHEMY of the guitar, bass, drums, and sometimes synths that do it for some of us more technical-musician Rush-heads. And Geddy is my favorite bassist of all time for sure. And probably one of my favorite singers. I just don’t really care about lyrics that much (even though I also have a masters degree in literature 😆)

Thoughtful and insightful lyrics, beautiful intricate melodies that seamlessly shift to driving hard rock, combined with amazing individual musicianship by all three. If any one song sums up what Rush is all about, Natural Science is it. For me, this song is just as awesome now as it was back in 80' when I first heard it on vinyl. One of my all time favorite Rush songs.

Thats what makes you one of us is your ability to actually hear the musicianship and talent of RUSH. The intellectual side of their music is what usually throws most people off and if they don't get it, they don't like it. Which for me personally is one of the reasons I love RUSH so much, not everybody likes or listens to them. It's not sheeple music. :)

I love the heaviest of metal. But I guess deep down, I’m a nerd. I remember buying this album when it came out. This would be the last Rush album before they were no longer just “my band”. After Moving Pictures, they became giants. Though I believe Moving Pictures is Rush’s most defining album, Permanent Waves is dearest too me me because of this. I kept wondering “why doesn’t anybody get it?!”. With Moving Pictures, they did. Exit Stage Left was the last Rush album I bought. The memories are priceless. Thanks Alex, Geddy, Neil. RIP Good Sir.

INDOCTRINATION (SCHOOL) DID NOT EDUCATE ME... RUSH INSPIRED MY INTELLECT... I LEARNED TO USE MY INNER EYE WHEN ABSORBING THIS VIBRATION! I would lay on the floor put the speakers beside my ears, turn it UP... Feel the music, contemplate the lyrics and let my mind agree to let the message IN! THE WHOLE PRESENTATION, WONDROUS! On vinyl, you could just let the needle repeat the soundscape of the ocean until you had to leave the tide pools... Who says "ONE BAND CAN'T CHANGE THE WORLD!" RUSH - CHANGED MINE! ASSISTING me with finding the power to see things from DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES! LOVE TO ALL BEINGS!!! ENJOY THE JOURNEY... Thank you RUSH!!!

I am 56 years old and love writing too, and i have much to learn and explore but i am almost certain that these artists&musicians&writers want their work to be shared and to educate and elevate people, especially those of us who can't afford or don't get an IVY league education; Neil Peart learned to write simply by reading, and reading and then reading even more of all the classic books and novels by the greatest writers...something i need to do as well.

Next time I roll I'm definitely going to listen to this song. My favorite song by Rush is Different Strings. It reminds me of The Strigg Theory. Permanent Waves is my favorite Rush album. My Super cool Great Grandma bought this album for me when it fist came out.

This track requires analysis. It is more of a message than a song. The music is something else.

Wow! Wheels inside of wheels reminds my of the Old Testament concerning something that appears in the sky with the color of Amber. His lyrics are deep for sure!

All the busy little creatures chasing out their destinies . I love Rush for giving me the appreciation of all the other creatures that deserve a chance , the smallest little bug and spider , it doesnt matter all life is priceless to each creature . been a fan since 76 seen them 6 times , this music really defines my soul ..

Indeed. One likes to believe in the freedom of music, but glittering prizes and endless compromises can shatter the illusion of integrity.

this song was written(and released) the same year Carl Sagan's Cosmos was on TV. the song could have incidentaled that show.

My all time fave song. I always thought this was about the Band or their journey as creatives or how your music can be it's own universe. The 7/8 section has the naysayers and critics, the mid section is moving forward positively using all the influences around you, and the end is the beginning with a new wave

There's a fine live version of this from the 2008 Snakes and Arrows show in Holland. Check it out.
They never played this on any of the tours I saw in the 80s :(

While yes this song is probably the most diverse song they wrote and it is extremely orgasmic... The fact that a band can start a song in 4/4 time and then go to 7/8 time and back again... is just freaky... Rush fucking kicks ass... My 21 year old son can almost play the bass as well as Geddy Lee!!!
