I guess I didn't take age into consideration. So it would make sense to be slightly clueless on things if this is something you were just raised to do. This mountain is pretty much muscle memory at this point. Ima just ignore the fact Bunta started sending his 13 year old up and down the mountain in a car lol hopefully they give us more details later

Takumi learned to drive fast because he wanted to sleep, the first couple times he delivered he barely made it back in time for school and was exhausted. He decided to drive faster so he could go back to sleep but he broke all the tofu driving fast so bunta beat his ass. Bunta did the paper cup thing so that takumi would know if it spills the tofu will break, and eventually got to the point he can get decent sleep while delivering.

Normally kids grow up being into cars and then they start actually driving but for takumi it happened the other way around and that’s what makes it so interesting
you need to continue to watch this anime bro, the races after this are crazy. and is funny that you say that he can’t get better bc his racing is already perfect but you’d be surprised how much he improves later on. and just the whole lore of the show is so good and interesting too. i hope you make it to the later stages better yet the end of the show. it is a masterpiece.

that "aura" talk sure is dumb, and it also was during slow driving, but at high speeds many people who don't have lots of experience and skill often unsettle the car at corner exit because of messing up the balance of weight transfer and acceleration. so when you watch someone trying to go as fast as possible and being still 100% stable at the exit, you just get the feeling about the driver being damn good. that's what they tried to express, I guess
