Lars Mikkelsen was already perfect in Rebels, but FINALLY seeing him play Thrawn in live action proves was was born to play Grand Admiral Thrawn! And his “Night Troopers” are beyond awesome. They’re the most intimidating looking army I’ve ever seen in Star Wars. Especially Enoch, he looks like a mix of a Spartan and a gladiator.
And Baylan Skoll is proving to be one of the most complex and compelling characters in all of Star Wars. He managed to see not only that the Jedi had fallen even before Order 66 because of how they had become so blinded by their own hubris and hypocrisy, but he sees that the Galaxy can never be governed for long or even properly by either a Republic nor an Empire. So he is looking for a new power that will outlast all of them. It just makes it more tragic that Ray Stevenson didn’t live to see the overwhelming praise he would’ve received.
What really surprised me was the Nightsisters being the lynchpin that ties everything together. Now it makes sense how an incredibly ancient map could lead to where Thrawn was currently, because Morgan was told so in her visions by the Great Mothers, who were instructed by Thrawn. And in exchange for aiding Thrawn, he would take them and whatever their cargo is (and I have a bad feeling I might know what it is) back to our Galaxy.
DAVE FILONI YOU MAD GENIUS, YOU NEVER FAIL TO ENTERTAIN US!

Anyone else notice those coffin-shaped containers being moved by the Night Troopers at the end of the episode? And remember what Thrawn said about a cargo transfer and Morgan mentioning catacombs? Yeah... just me speculating, but it looks like a bunch of dead Nightsisters are being moved to the Star Wars galaxy.

After 30 years, the Heir to the Empire himself has been seen on screen in the flesh. It honestly is so surreal to me as someone who’s read both the HTTE trilogy, as well as Zahn’s canon novels (which are arguably even better than HTTE imo). That was one of the coldest entrances I’ve EVER seen in Star Wars 🔥🔥🔥. Even for those that haven’t watched Rebels or read the novels, I think this episode did a good job at starting to solidify not only why he is feared, but also how different he is from most Star Wars villains

I think at the moment of the reunion Sabine is suddenly flooded with everything Ahsoka warned her about and also what Thrawn said to her about damning the entire galaxy for that one singular wish she had, and this is why she is so “not really in the moment”

To the entire MaJeliv family, you all are a joy to experience the show with! Did you notice the Purgil sounds and the warbling at the beginning? The Great Mothers it appears, regularly check in with the Purgil on who or whats coming! But I think the Great Mothers said it best about Sabine,...'IT is dangerous!'....Sabine has way too many times in her past found herself asking 'What am I doing?' like when her brilliant artistic and genius mind created technology that focused on Mandalorian armor, killing a number of her own people! She has much to answer for!

  • @ECA2
    @ECA2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

When it comes to Sabine, I see someone who places personal objectives first. I remember that she built a weapon for the Empire that kills Mandalorians wearing Beskar. Although she tried to destroy the prototype, the Empire was able to reconstruct it and use it to vastly reduce the Mandalorian population. Her time with the Rebels was more of seeking atonement, however, that flaw within her remains.

Epic entrance by Thrawn, and Baylan continues to mesmerise! And I agree with Dad about Sabine - while I first felt a little let down with the low key reunion, we mustn't forget she is weighed down by guilt (she earlier stated she tries to avoid self-reflection) and she just wants a moment of happiness before she has to confess the awful consequences of her actions! And Dave making us care for the NOTI when there's a chance they'll come to harm in the chase for Ezra and Sabine is painful - but I cannot wait for the final episodes! Great reactions, peeps!

Baylan only came on this trip for his ultimate purpose: to reshape the galaxy, and stop the cyclical nature he sees in it.
It's why he doesn't care about Thrawn/New Republic conflict that will come - he seeks a power that will sweep them from the board. He intends to destroy the existing galaxy to create a new one shaped by his vision. "One must destroy in order to create." All the players - Thrawn, Nightsisters, Baylan - seem to have their own plans/ulterior motives, and it'll be interesting to see how that all shakes out.

My favorite episodes so far...5 and 6. You realize though it's on every movie in text, that's the first time the "far far away" line has been spoken on screen I believe. So if you compare the storm troopers current look with the red cloth wrapping to the zombie sisters from Clone Wars that also had cloth wrappings around them, I think they are like Marrok. It calls them Night Troopers...like Night Sisters? I also think those casket looking boxes they are loading on the Chimera are more bodies of either troopers or Dathomiri to create an undead army when they get back to the SW galaxy. Can't wait.

17:39 I have heard some theories about what is calling him. Some think it might be Abeloth ("the Mother", who Luke's jedi order had to fight in "legends"), since she is connected to the mortis gods (I think) and maybe that's why Anakin (who seems to be like "the Father" now) saved Ahsoka (with part of the Daughter still inside of her). Others think it might be the Zepho (from "Jedi: Fallen Order") and/or another canon/ legends race.
Maybe multiple off these things are actually at play here and connected in some way? Could it be that Abeloth was responsible for the Zepho's corruption for example? I think that would be interesting to see but I don't really think that it is likely to happen. That would be one hell of a long term bad guy though, for our characters to face in (probably) the far far future.

Sabine is NOT an outwardly emotional person and this reunion was already her most expressive reunion with someone she loved that she hadn't seen in years. based on how she reacted when she met Ketsu, her brother, her mother, and her father (who was being transported for execution) this reunion was the most excessive i can recall of Sabine in either series. aside from anger which is the one emotion that is easy for her to express and the very rare moment where she privately expresses deep sadness like BEFORE fenn rau and Kanan asked her to lead her people using the darksaber. But otherwise Sabine is very emotionally guarded. So her running up to Ezra while understandable is actually not in character for her.
Even in Dume, after she returns from promoting the mission where Kanan died, she angrily opens the cockpit window and you see her wipe the tears from her eyes and she walks off and ignores everyone. The next time we see her she's full of take and wants to kill a bunch of imperials. She goes on a mission with zeb fights imperials blows stuff up and then stops zeb from killing rokh. This was her at the height of probably the most emotional moment we have ever seen from her.
Again though this wasn't a cold reunion. Just look at her face when the shock wears off. And while i don't think it's very in character for her to run up and hug him, you could also argue that the reason she didn't she didn't was because she was so shocked in that moment from hearing his voice and seeing him that she locked up. Ezra also knows Sabine well enough to know she doesn't do emotions well. So he starts teasing her about taking so long to find him, to give her some time to compose herself. That banter was enough for Sabine break out of her schock and she banters right back allowing they reestablish their dynamic and so she is finally able to hug him.
I also have the feeling that Filoni choose a slower hug to both show new viewers what their natural rhythm is like together and to clearly reemphasize that they are not a romantic pairing and that she did everything she did because they share a bond of friendship/family. i'm getting the feeling Filoni wants to stop getting asked if they're a couple so he's taken the time to show it in the show, both with the slower build up to the hug (which i thought worked nicely for them.) and the holo message he left for her where he says "you're like a sister to me.". Having then run up and high like that would not only not be in character for her, but it work all the shippers into a frenzy.

I find it strange that fans can’t come to the conclusion that Thrawn and Ezra are already dead. We saw how different it was to travel intergalactic hyperspace and all of that energy around the ring when it exited. Now imagine Thrawn’s ship with its broken windows on the bridge where Ezra and Thrawn were standing. Plus the ship wasn’t built with the golden metal like Morgan’s ship. Everyone on that ship died and were resurrected by the Night Sisters. Ezra is in red robes and looks like Jesus who rose from the dead. Thrawn’s appearance and uniform is frayed. Unlike Thrawn if he were the same from Rebels. In Rebels in the finale he says to Ezra. “What happens next happens to both of us.” They died. Sabine says to Thrawn “If you survive, Ezra survived” But Thrawn didn’t survive. Thrawn asked the Night Sisters for dark magick “help again.” Baylan “this is a graveyard” “whales come here to die.” So many clues it’s like The Sixth Sense. Star Wars fans “They only see what they want to see.”

the night sisters are determined to leave with Thrawn, but is it perhaps that they owe their powers to whatever evil resides within? I've heard a few whisper of Aboleth, the maid who was the caretaker of the children of the wills, but became demented, and was herself exiled. Skoll has no fear, but people who've been here decade or even centuries are. Makes me believe that one should be careful what they wish for!

  • @milanbanas101
    @milanbanas101 ปีที่แล้ว

Way back in A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi took Luke Skywalker on as his student, but he never said the word Padawan. Other than the fact that George Lucas hadn’t decided that Jedi would use the term, we now have a pretty good explanation of how Luke, Ezra, and Rey were trained when compared to all the other Jedi from previous generations. In “Far, Far Away,” when Shin asks her master Baylan if he knows Ezra Bridger from back in the Jedi heyday, he notes Bridger is “too young,” because “he comes from a breed of Bokken Jedi, trained in the wild, after the Temple fell.”
In our galaxy, a bokken is a Japanese wooden sword used for training and sparring. Because George Lucas grafted a lot of samurai nomenclature onto the Jedi, there’s a long Star Wars tradition of using these terms in different contexts. Here, the reasoning is pretty clear. In real life, a bokken is used as a substitute for a real sword, so a Bokken Jedi is a weaker substitute for the real deal, at least in Baylan’s eyes.
This means Luke Skywalker and Rey - two people who saved the galaxy - are Bokken Jedi, as opposed to traditional Temple-trained Jedi like Baylan and Ahsoka. Before the foundational retcon of the prequels, we had no reason to believe that all Jedi weren’t Bokken Jedi. In the now non-canonical 1990s Dark Horse Comic book series Tales of the Jedi, there was a wild quality to the training of Jedi throughout their history, which felt more aligned with what we saw in the original films. But The Phantom Menace changed all that, effectively making the Jedi way more bureaucratic than we’d imagined. Now, with Ahsoka, this small retcon seems to be pointedly commenting on that split in a way we’ve never seen before.
In many ways, Ahsoka is taking the early Jedi vibes of the classic Star Wars trilogy and reasserting that path to Jedi-dom as valid and reasonably common. As established in Episode 2, it’s okay for Sabine to train as a Jedi, even if her “aptitude for the Force” isn’t amazing. In Episode 6, Baylan is wistful about the “idea” of the Jedi Order, which implies the practicality of the Order was questionable.
Throughout the original and sequel trilogies, there’s been a big emphasis placed on the need for the Jedi, but not necessarily the Jedi Order. In a way, Luke’s disillusionment in The Last Jedi is a product of him doing what the previous generation did; formalize the Jedi, rather than embrace the wild ways of Bokken Jedi. The prequels gave us rules the Jedi had to follow but, of course, those rules were made to be broken, quite literally, by everything that happens in the story of Star Wars.
We still don’t really know what kind of Force users Sabine and Shin will become. But hopefully, by the end of Ahsoka, the definition of Jedi can permanently drop the fussiness of the prequels. Ancient religions and sorcerers’ ways have their place, but they can become a drag when there are a bunch of stuffy rules to follow.

I think Sabine is being guided by the force to Ezra but she is so unaware of the how the force ‘feels’ that she doesn’t know its guiding her. This is why she asks herself ‘what am i doing’. These two are possibly twins which are both unknowingly led by the force not unlike Luke and Leia. To have survived so far in the situations they have been in without active use of the force may point to how truly powerful Sabine and Ezra may be once they do connect knowingly with the force. OG level twin force users. Hence the non romantic greeting, the awkward gathering… led by something they both don’t fully understand. They will be the youthful twins that are force wielders that we always wanted to see Luke and Leia become before they aged out of the roles.

Hot take: the power Baylan can sense is Palpatines Spirit/Ghost/Soul. He knew about the nightsisters and had them wiped out, he knew about the world between worlds, was dabbling in Sith sorcery and probably had all the jedi archives to his disposal.
That's why the witches want to leave. They know about Jedi and Sith and they're fleeing the growing power of THE Sith Lord.

Prediction for season finalee, Season 2 and The Mandalorian. Somehow someone will die in the end (maybe Sabine).....and Thrawn (with Ezra as prisoner) will get back in main galaxy and Ahsoka, Baylan and Shin will remain on Peridia....and then Season 2 will have her explore that. Mando season 4 will deal with Thrawn stuff (introducing Thrawn in Mando with the help of Morgan Elsbeth). Somehow Mando and Gragu find Ezra. Meanwhile Ezra works in finding a way to bring back Ahsoka (maybe through World Between Worlds). Then the movie will culminate the Filoni verse.

I actually thought that Sabine and Ezra's reunion was perfect. Instead of an epic run and hug sort of reunion (which is what every one would have expected), they both went back to their old ways like in rebels when they would always banter. It was like no time had past. That scene perfectly captured their relationship.

If the witches can ride purrgils then Thrawn would eventually get out with or without Sabine's involvement now that he has dark magic on his side. Saving Ezra is saving a valuable soldier while sizing up the enemy's army and his allies. Morgan would have done what Ahsoka did had she lost the map. By sending him away they gave him all the cheat codes with those witches seeing everything and helping fix the timeline for him to get him where he wants.

"Perhaps they flee a power greater than their own" one name needs to be said here....Abeloth!! If you notice the hieroglyphic symbols on the temple, I believe that this is Zeffonian in nature. The are the ancient race that build these map structures. The were an ancient Force using race. The power could also be Zeffonian in nature. Also, Ezra has upgraded from collectiong helmets. He is wearing chain mail made of night trooper dog tags.

Jose said something that reminded me of something one of you said in episode 4. which got me thinking that we may all be seeing thing in entirely the wrong way. at no point in any star wars movie or show has the idea of sacrificing someone else for the greater good ever been shown as the ideal path to take. Self sacrifice sure, but sacrificing someone else? that has never been a thing that we see in star wars. again and again in star wars we see the characters rushing in to save their friends and family when it is obvious they shouldn't. Luke was told by obiwan and Yoda that he should sacrifice his friends (and family) because he is still not ready. that it will ultimately be for the greater good. he is literally allowing his attachements to direct him on wrong path. but almost certainly no one who watched that movie is shaking their head in dissapointment at luke for saving his friends.
Yes, i realize the stakes here are quite different. this is the first time that saving the friend/family member leads to potential harm to others where as inaction means potentially preventing that harm. but i'm starting to think there may be more to all of this than initially meets the eye. Firstly the idea of this is presented to use by the jaded Ahsoka the grey. This is the version of her that is so scared of another war that she is willing to abandon her friend and break the promise she made to him. the version of her that is so scared of following in her masters footsteps that she has closed her self off both emotionally and toward others living the life of a wandering ronin.
also we can already see from the little we have seen of peridea that something strange is going on there. Something that perhaps we should be concerned about. What that is i couldn't possibly know, but its not just thrawn that wants to leave that galaxy. The nightsisters, as shin tells us, also seem eager to leave their ancestral homeworld. why is that? thrawn has plenty of reasons to want to leave, but why would the great mothers? even shin is getting a bad feeling about that place. what if the reason Sabine is herself so confused by her own actions is that she is being moved by the will of the force. we know that given the choice ahsoka would have destroyed the map they would have likely left without the inspiration that they can use the whales to get there. it literally took her becoming enlightened for her to realize she had another wya to get there. but sabine was put into a situation where she really had no choice but to hand over the map. we saw that even if she had tried to shoot it, it wouldnt' have done anything. not if baylan's lightsaber only barley managed to damage it enough to make it inoperable. and had she done it, baylan would have killed her and used the map anyway. So perhaps the driving force pushing her into doing this thing even leaves her wondering what she is doing is the force pushing her to do it.
This wouldn't be the first time it has happened to her. Look back to Trials of the darksaber. this was for all intent and purposes her first time using a lightsaber. through a good part of the match, kanan didn't even need to ignite his lightsaber. he simply side stepped all of her swings. that is until he finally manages to force her to open up about her past and her feelings. at this point, once she is finally able to open up the match abruptly changes directions suddenly Kanan cant step step her anymore he has to not only start blocking but he has been pressed into a retreating defence. his only move to to try to get away and she so caught up in the moment continues to press her attack until finally she kicks him down the ledge they are fighting and jumps down to where he is. she stands over him lightsaber ready to strike. Kanan seemingly afraid that she is so lost in the moment raises his arm in a futile attempt to protect himself. even Ezra and Fenn rau who are watching get up in alarm. but sabine lowers the blade and turns it off ending the match.
in this moment when she opened herself up she allowed the force to guide and direct her. she went from a novice using a lightsaber for the first time to someone able to defeat a fully trained jedi knight who fought in the clone wars. sword training alone doesn't accomplish that. Kanan showed us how little use her weapon training alone was. yet she almost instantly turned it around and managed to overwhelm him. it was literally what both kanan and Ahsoka said about her. she needed to open herself up to the force. well in that moment she did and she accomplished quite a bit. So perhaps now that she is trying to open herself up to it again it is directing her into an action that seems odd. to her, to ahsoka, and to us the audience? I suppose we'll just have to see what awaits for us on peridea.

couple things to keep in mind, thrawn does have a hatred of jedi, so using baylan would be no surprise. Also there clearly is another power here, baylan senses it and I sure Ezra does as well!! interesting to see where this goes...

I cannot really explain it, but I had this feeling when Ezra first appeared of "that's not Ezra", perhaps it is physically, but not the Ezra we know. Thrawn told Sabine she gambled the fate of the whole galaxy on finding Ezra. Why would he consider that be a gamble and why was the galaxy fated on Sabine's belief on finding Ezra? I guess his particular phrasing of all that just made me wonder. Could Thrawn know something about Ezra and what happened to him after all this time that Sabine will be sad to learn? I do also wonder what Thrawn's ultimate end-goal is. He never seemed intent on conquering the galaxy, at least to me. He worked with Palpatine and The Empire for his own reasons and sometimes their goals did not align and other times it did, but The Empire was always a means to an end for Thrawn. But, now with The Empire and Palpatine gone, what motive would Thrawn have for something sinister? Regarding Sabine and Ezra's lack of enthusiasm at seeing each other, part of me thinks that was intentional and part of me think that was not. One of my biggest "complaints" of this show is the dialogue is too slow and not a quick natural exchange between 2 people as it could be, I think. So, it could just be the same "problem" with this show not having more quippy and natural dialogue between characters like with Ezra and Sabine, but it could also be intentional to show us not everything is as it seems and there is something does not feel quite right with Ezra and Sabine.

Again what you are asking of Sabine to do when of it was romantic greetings that she feels is just NOT on her nature to display. When she not here father who she lead an army of rebels and mandalorians to rescue from being executed she just stood there and looked at him. She didn't even show any major emotions other than to wait and see what he does. This was her father who she loved and rushed the lives of many people to save. Her impetus to bring the mandalorians into the War against the empire was to save him. And I've she did she just stood there looking at him let him make the first move. She hadn't seen either of them in years. And if you consider the fact that bringing the mandalorians into war is what ultimately lead to the purge then both choices led to the death of others. Sure we can say that she didn't know the empire would purge mandalore where as we know thrawn will cause harm but let's see what her experience with the empire tells us. They tricked her into making a super weapon they could use to control her people. When they took Fenn Rau to persuade him they wiped out the protectors. When she got the mandalorians involved in the way to rescue her father they launched a smaller version of the duchess and killed everyone there. Tibre Saxon even said to her, would you rather we fight a battle against the empire that we can't win? To which Sabine answered at least we'd die free.
So what is rescuing her father knowing it the white will retaliate against her people good but rescuing her "brother" such a horrible action that she is betraying herself? I guess it's either because only mandalorians would get attacked vs everyone. Then again I suppose it could just be that Ahsoka told her but to and she agreed. Not that you're her would have listened had someone asked her not to save her dad
Sorry that wasn't taken the point. The point still comes back down to Sabine being willing to put people in harms way to save her family but then lacking the ability to express her joy at having them back. That's why it's so strange you would say she was cold. Cold was when she rescued her father and said nothing. Cold was when she met her mother and brother for the first time in years and their reception was colder than the ice planet they lived on.
They're meeting wasn't cold out just wasn't what how and if us myself included would have done in that situation, but it is the warmest greeting we ever see from her. She is apparently her mother's daughter in terms of her expressing emotion. She seems to express those emotions more by the things she does for people she just didn't have the means to express those feelings. In fact Sabine even sends to have difficulty accepting those emotions from others. Look at the scene on mandalore when kanan was going to say I'm proud of you and she stopped him.
For some people giving and accepting gestures of emotions is extremely difficult. I saw this from experience. Sabine is in meant ways like my wife. She is from Taiwan and for her being emotionally expensive is very difficult. She can angry easily that for sure but recording affection when saying the word I love you is not something that comes easy. What does come easy is actions. This is her love language. She does things first the people she loves that demonstrate how she feels for them. Here she and Sabine are very much the same she crossed a galaxy to tribute reunite with Ezra but running and giving him a hug that's too much to fast.
That how you can tell just how much this moment may to her because despite all that she is still very expressive just look at her smile.

Curious to see if Dave Filoni remembers the new canon Thrawn novels.
    Because he met Anakin Skywalker.
I rather set myself up for disappointment.
Ahsoka's shoe size and her force ability could be quit beneficial as well to defeat her.
Thrawn's voice sounds like someone has lost part of his teeth.

Thrawn met Anakin in the ascendancy trilogy (this is essentially the Thrawn Canon origin trilogy) he met Vader In the trilogy of books that got released between S3 - S4 of rebels.
The reason why Sabina is the way she is is because we found out her mother and brother were dead.
Her other family just isn’t complete, sure she has Hera and Zeb, not to mention Jacen but still no Ezra.
I don’t think Ezra will be mad, just a little disappointed, but it may get Ezra to a point where he can actually (I’m hoping) to train Jacen, just as a way of keeping it in the family and then you can have a conversation about Kanan.
I really want to see Freddie Prinze Jr force ghost, I would absolutely lose my mind if that would happen. Caleb/Kanan returns from the cosmic force baby, yeah!
That’s why she didn’t turn up for the ceremony that was on Lothal a planet in people that basically adopted her (more or less), although she was just making sure the people were fine in Ezra‘s absence.
Thrawn’s ability for blocking for sensitives at this point (as of writing) is legends.
He never took any Jedi out, the only interaction really was at the end of S3 of rebels with Bendu as a force sensitive creature) when he saw Thrawn’s future and the only interaction he had with Kanan was when he asked him, what Jedi devilry is this.
In terms of his interaction with Ezra, it was literally when Ezra turned himself over so that Thrawn would stop the bombardment of Lothal.
Then there’s the direct interaction in his office on the Chimara where Thrawn basically says to Ezra how he finds the force in Enigma and something that even he can explain, then he gives Ezra the you do things that are morally correct and not what strategically sound because you decided to be a Jedi. (At least that was the general jest I know I’m not quite quoting verbatim there).
Then it was a case of hi Ho, it’s off to Palpatine we go.
With all that being said, it was governor price who was responsible for Kanan’s death when she gave the order to blow the fuel cells, which were part of Thrawn’s Tie defender program.
Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, didn’t expect to see Ezra, so that was a welcome surprise for me Thrawn was a given. Great introduction to the night. Troopers and Enoch also.
I really want a poster of that front shot of the Chimera as it’s coming towards the nightsister Temple.
