    The welcome you receive does not surprise me, having lived there for five years (under the Gaddhafi regime). The Libyan people are some of the friendliest people I know and I have visited 135 countries! (The Iranians, also!) The lesson? Do not always believe the western politicians or western media who like to peddle negative narratives about cultures and people they do not know!

I also travelled quite a bit . and my take is PPL no matter what, are overwhelmingly friendly . some countries more that others …but i always manage to present myself as a friendly visitor , and try hard to mimic the Locals , which is helped by my overall looks . cheers ..

      @mimovil8730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      To be fair, the criticism coming from the establishment in the West is generally directed against the countries themselves and not the people. Then you have Trump, and racists, but that's not the general vibe imho.

    • @rockytop5654
      @rockytop5654 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Actually I disagree. As I view the western media I find that this information is available to me. In fact many written journalist here and around the world try very hard to touch on the various points of view. Rarely do I get into a discussion where even the most extreme view is unfamiliar to me. My advice to you is get your head out of that area where the sun does not shine and Read. Also read the entire article not just the headline. Get your information from various media sources and bloggers like Nick.

      Many in the US goverment believe that every person on earth should share basic human rights and live in dignity. Yes we have many that do not and we are not always perfect. No doubt. But we should always defend the principles laid out by the fathers of the US goverment.

    As usual, fantastic job Nick! Glad you're safe and I'm always impressed by your adventures. Just a note 12:35 at the interview the interpreter wasn't providing an accurate interpretation. At the start Haneen was talking about _galloping_ (I'm sure there's a part of the audio that was perhaps muted/left out), but the more important part after when you asked about oppression and opportunities the lady said "No, we are giving the full opportunity for both genders, boys and girls, old and young to come and train here,... not only to train but to [have the opportunity to do horse-riding]". The interpreter didn't provide a faithful interpretation here. Having said that it's really great to see this positive side that is often hidden and masked with the worst stereotypes (some are true to extent). Stay safe! really appreciate your content and your empathy with others.

    Hi Nick, lovely to see Libya from another outside view, from the inside (so to speak). As the European wife of a Libyan national, I do have a different view than the media would present obviously, so thanks for showing the world the real Libya. On that note:
    - I've travelled as an unaccompanied female foreigner to Libya several times and never had any hassle. Last time I ended up in Tripoli instead of Benghazi and had to stay in a hotel overnight (yes, alone) before taking a flight to Benghazi the next day. I don't speak the language (not very well anyway), and still never had any kind of problems. Anyone I've met has always been helpful and kind.
    - Not sure if you would be allowed to mentioned the insane power outages going on right now, but they're one of the reasons you see queues at the petrol stations - no electricity for the petrol pumps means they have to re-fuel whenever the power comes back on.
    - There is a large amount of expat foreign women (mostly Europeans) living in Libya since many years, married to Libyan men, spread out over the country. If you're interested to get their view on life in Libya as a foreign woman?

These regime are trying to destabilise these regions to steal their oil. Middle East and Africa have one of the nicest people on earth (so has South America). Sincerely hope the world can see how united nations didn't do anything to help these nations. They are corrupt and controlled by 5 members of UNSC who are undemocratic. Omg 😂😂 that's such a libyan thing to do. Libyans always want to make the visitor feel special, appreciated and safe. They want to look after you. But in this case i think they took it a little too far that i may transferred the opposite.
    In general Libya is a rich country with such kind people but the biggest problem is the instability of the state. I think once they develop economic and political stability and then start working on the infrastructure and rebuild everything it could definitely be a nice tourism spot. Libya also has a lot of money and oil, it really just seems that they need good unified stable and effective government!

      Sorry, but as a neutral spectator i haven't seen anything near a stable country under Qadaffi. What did he do out of 42 Years of Oil, money and the richest country of Africa? No busses, no big industry /export (which they should at least have), no tourism, no metro/subway, no freedom of speech. So yes, if you want to call it stable, yes it was but also before he brutally took control over libya, and i find really questionable if someone would rather like to live in such a "stable country" than what a stable country it could have been without him wrongfully taking control of Libya.
      As i sad, im a neutral spectator that reads the facts and share his thoughts.
