- Hey guys on todays video I'll be talking about the things you need to know before and after moving to Poland as I think this is important and might be very useful to a lot of you. I hope you will find this video useful.
All the best my sweets
International drivers permit is not processed at the traffic dept but at AA (Automobile Association) or designated locations. You still need your SA license card and the IDP is only valid for 1 year. Now it's possible that cops will actually still acccept your normal license card, and that has to be used with the IDP but to be safe have both.
For people who want to drive in Poland, very important, pedestrians are kings. If a pedestrian approaches a crossing, you have to slow down and stop. The laws are very hard on this. Secondly be careful about green arrows. Say you want to turn right and there is a green arrow, but there is a pedestrian crossing just right of the arrow... the arrow is always CONDITIONAL. In South Africa, a green arrow implies that the pedestrians have a red light and can't cross, NOT in POLAND (and EUROPE). The pedestrians may even have a green light to cross, so you have to let them through, and can turn whatever direction the arrow indicates on the condition that the pedestrians are not crossing.
Supermarkets - you have to pack your own grocery bags. Petrol stations - 9 out of 10 petrol stations are SELF SERVICE. However, petrol prices can differ. So one station may have cheaper petrol than the next. The best petrol stations in Poland are ORLEN. The bathrooms are super clean and free. That's the other thing, you usually pay to use the toilet in public. That's a German custom Poland has. Except in malls and ORLEN (especially) petrol stations. In many restaurants bathrooms are free to use but only for customers, otherwise you have to pay 2-5 Zloty which is 8-20 Rands.
Finally, you can get alcohol at petrol stations at all times of the day and night.
The best comment and appreciate you adding more important information 🙏🏽❤️
@@Phindihlophe Thank you. I was in Poland recently for a month again and ran into some of these things again so I thought South African people who visit, work or emigrate may want to know a few of the quirks.
And as for the Profil Zaufany apps most of my relatives had no idea how to use them. :)
And pedestrians really are Holy Cows in Poland. It's big traffic fines for not yielding to them. Which is also dangerous because people become less afraid of cars and some drivers are bad.
@@peterc.1419 Next time you come to Poland please let me know so I can give you a list of things I might need from SA 🤣🤣🫣
True, pedestrians are very important in Poland
@@Phindihlophe OK. :). Yes in SA we don't pay too much attention to pedestrians, as we should. P.
This is very helpful, thank you.
Regarding cops in Poland. In South Africa you get traffic cops, municipal cops and SAPS. In Poland there are no traffic cops. Well actually there are but they are for professional vehicles like trucks and they inspect them. Any cop can give you a traffic ticket. Secondly municipal cops in Poland are called STRAZ (which translates to Guard) while the police are called Policja. Both of these issue traffic tickets.
If you need an ER (24 hour emergency room), because you are suddenly very ill, ERs are called "SOR".
Thank you so much for this information 🤩🥰
@@Phindihlophe Thank you for promoting Poland as well. And did you try "kasza gryczana"? That's my childhood taste. I bring it back to SA if I go to Poland, like you bring maize meal (pap). The taste you had a s a kid, I think becomes your favourite. The kasza gryczana DIschem in SA sells is not the same type and it tastes weird if you cook it.
@@peterc.1419 haven’t tried that but will definitely try it 😍
@@Phindihlophe It's poor peoples' food traditionally so available everywhere. But for some younger Poles, it's not cool enough haha.
Very good video. Explains many things very well, including the trusted profile.
