The name of the song means feathered dress in German, and this is an old wedding song. I love this group, no electrical instruments. Simply awesome. Love that hurdy gurdy
Another Faun suggestion? Walpurgisnacht! If you like "time travel" sounding music, check out Blackmore's Night! The Way to Mandalay, The Dancer and the Moon, Village on the Sand, Loreley... heck, far too many good songs to name them all. Play Minstrel Play (studio version) features a guest artist that you might recognize when you hear his part. Under a Violet Moon is pretty much an ode to renfests, and Pastime With Good Company is an old traditional English folk tune actually written by King Henry VIII.
I love how theres so many different types of music out there! You have the ability to go from this to queen to santana, to pink, to baby shark song, to eminem to absolutely anything you want to. I just love it😊
Kudos to Manuel for a great choice in German folk music and to Highly Combustible for a great reaction. It is a really beautiful song lyrically, as well.
The instrument to you were wondering about is a Hurdy Gurdy (yes that is its actual name). It's a turnwheel rubbing on strings akin to a violin. It has strings connected to a piano like keyboard and a drone string that never changes pitch. It was invented somewhere in the middle ages and has barely changed between then and now. It started as a peasant instrument but has occasional been a higher class instruments. It occasionally sees some use in the present day. Most wel known modern use is in the game sea of thieves.
I'm seconding MsCatstaff. Same group (FAUN, pronounced F-AUN as in down with an F) and the song to check out next is Walpurgisnacht. By the way, the "damn instrument" is a hurdy-gurdy (SERIOUSLY, I kid you not!).
5:23 This is a Hurdy Gurdy or "Drehleier" in German. It's basically an over engineered violin. Instead of striving the strings with a bow you turn the crank and instead of pressing down the strings you push buttons to play different chords. By the way, Faun not only sings in German but also Medieval High German (i.e. Loibere Risen), French (i.e. Unicorne), Spanish... One of my favourite songs by Faun is Tinta: "Si la mar fuera de tinta Y el cielo fuera papel No se podría escribir Lo mucho que es mi querer" If the sea was ink And the sky made out of paper One still couldn't describe how big my love for you is
songs like these call to our blood. across nations, across cultures, across any manmade barrier, the music of our ancestors sing a universal language of brotherhood and joy. We must not forget about the joy that music is supposed to bring with it.
The faun (Latin: faunus, Ancient Greek: φαῦνος, phaunos, pronounced [pʰaunos]) is a half-human and half-goat mythological creature appearing in Greek and Roman mythology. Originally fauns of Roman mythology were spirits (genii) of rustic places, lesser versions of their chief, the god Faunus. Before their conflation with Greek satyrs, they and Faunus were represented as nude men (e.g. the Barberini Faun). Later fauns became copies of the satyrs of Greek mythology, who themselves were originally shown as part-horse rather than part-goat.
I start to believe that Manuel is German and has great taste in music. 😁 This is for the beginning of the party. And later in the evening you switch to Schubsetanz by Feuerschwanz. 😂
I really like that kind of music. If you too, try next OMNIA - Fee Ra Huri. Or totally different genre, Ayreon - Age Of Shadows (with Marko Hietala and Floor Jansen).
Faun is awesome! Do check out their performance of Odin with Einar Selvik, that's full on time travel w god appearance (that'd be Einar) and everything.
This video is old but i feel obliged to get people to listen to some old school songs that are underapreciated. So i´m gonna leave you with a suggestion Seeed - Music Monks
Don't want pauses? Go watch the video on their channel or start your own. On my channel, I'll pause whenever I see fit to pause. I'll make sure to throw an extra pause in the next video especially for you. Merry Christmas

Such a natural and uplifting song, make me want to run through a field and dance in the rain and let the spirit fill me.

For what it's worth, the bird at the beginning of the video is a bird of prey called a Red Kite.
