If I didn’t know and had to guess, I would say it came out in 87. If someone said this movie was from 1990, I would still believe it. It all looks and sounds trite in hindsight till you realize this was 6 years before Miami Vice.

Rourke was an outstanding actor, but perhaps a little rough around the edges for Julien Kaye. His best role imho was Angel Heart. Gere could not have even toùched that role.

One of the best opening credit sequences for an American film in the eighties. This film, which Travolta dropped out of, really put Gere over the top.

I wouldn’t have liked this movie if Travolta wound up starring; Gere really had the convincing energy that complimented the director’s vision.
