    In India citizens have this colonial mindset that disrupting and disturbing lives of fellow citizens is heroic aka blocking highways Toll stations railway tracks what not etc. Then there are internal and external weirdos who can not stand the rise of us 1.4 billion Indian citizens working harmoniously together. Electricity not easily stopped and Hydrogen is brand new tech. Railways being a life line for citizens must have All the Green options open to run 24x7.

There are Dual mode Hydrogen train available in market where they use 25kv line as well as hydrogen fuel cell but so far RDSO is planning to retrofit ZDM3 Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotive with hybrid fuel cell for Kalka- Shimla

    Hydrogen locomotives doesn't have to be limited to Heritage lines. There are a lot of places it can be used in broad gauge. In Kerala railways abandoned entire railway corridor leading to historic station in Wellington Island because the line cannot be safely electrified due to its proximity to Naval Airbase. This line could have been useful to thousands of people living in the area. Also electrification is not possible in container terminal because it will interfere with the working of cranes. Currently they use Diesel locomotives for shunting inside the container terminals. Though in last case battery electric locomotive would be better as they are idle most of the time and is always close to power source. They won't need huge capacity batteries.

      Green hydrogen is the next frontier that India is exploring.. GAIL is the pioneer in this field, and it is only natural that India finds use for this in its rail sector.
      Also, some lines cannot be electrified due to defense issues - like the wellington Island region in Kochi.. Railway power lines will interfere with navy aircraft.. In addition, the nation must retain the ability to power trains even if the electrical grid is taken out, such as during times of war.. we saw this recently in the ukraine war, when Russia destroyed Ukraines power sector completely, leaving it unable to run its trains which are fully electrified.

    • @rapiddu6482
      @rapiddu6482 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's why it's is a failure on current model of hydrogen extraction. Energy efficiency is only about 50% compared to 80% with electricity. If you're going to use electricity to extract hydrogen anyway then why not just use that electricity directly.
      Although at the same time hydrogen really makes sense in places like hydrogen trucks where it is still 2x better than diesel trucks in terms of efficiency. Plus highway can't be electrified without complexity so it is better to put hydrogen in trucks rather than trains which already runs good with electricity. Just have hydrogen trains just in case you have to deploy in case of war or emergency. But regular use doesn't make sense.

    Modi govt knows there will always be demand for some kind of fuel. Full electric is not viable everywhere
    Our leaders know the future. Also too many electric hi speed trains will place too much demand on the grid and it will fail, so we need these trains to take over in meantime while grid is improved.
