Harvey, what a great interview! Everyone wants to be on your show, congratulations! Melissa was such a major character on Little House whose storyline was always the best.
I wish it were true that everyone wants to be on our show but the truth is that it’s still very difficult and often demoralizing getting big name stars to appear on the show. Thank you so much for watching.
Melissa Sue Anderson has always been a great role model for me! Very level-headed for the fame she has, and polite. Beautiful and intelligent, too! I always adored her talent of Acting. 🤩
@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 It was wonderful! Very interesting and informative. Helps give a person a tidbit of what the Acting life of a young person was like, especially back in the 1970's and 1980's. And how to deal with other personalities in the Acting world, which at times sounded very challenging!
@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 And thank you for interviewing Melissa Sue Anderson! Beautiful person and Actress! I have subscribed to your channel. 😊
Harvey, It sure is an honor. I don't think Melissa Anderson would give anyone else an interview and I agree that you are the vey best at interviewing these celebrities. This show made me very happy!! Also, I have never seen one episode of Little House On The Prairie, but I have always loved her!!
Alan I have to say I am astonished and deeply grateful that someone who never watched Little House would take the time to watch this interview. Thank you so much from my heart for your support.
Yayyy!!!🎉 I have been waiting for this! When I was a little girl, maybe 7 or 8, I remember thinking she had the most beautiful hair! Lol. And, as I got older I had such respect for her. It’s so good to hear from her. ❤❤
I really enjoy your interviews. I've always liked Melissa Anderson andfelt that her shyness caused other peopleto label her infairly. You were spot on in discussing her maturity and inner balance. Youalways navigate the interviews crafted to the individual. This was a favorite.
Thanks so much to Harvey and Melissa! 🤩 I loved all of the tv performances I ever saw from her and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME (1981) made a huge impact on the 13-year-old version of myself.
Another outstanding interview with a truly fascinating guest for us devoted fans here in TV Land, Harvey! The scene in 'Little House' where Melissa's character, Mary Ingalls, goes blind remains unforgettable. No matter how much TV and film I've seen in my lifetime, that moment has stayed with me, and will never leave. Thank you, Harvey, for bringing someone I've admired from afar a little closer to us all. You're simply the best!
@melissaphillips3088 I am so happy and grateful that you have found our show!! I look forward to your feedback about our other interviews with legendary stars!
Harvey, what a get!! So enjoyed the interview. Melissa is and always has been so impressive. Love her perspective on life. You continue to impress with your skill to interview and entertain. Very few can do both and at this level!! Congrats!
Great interview! I still cry, after all these years, watching Melissa as Mary on LHOTP when she went blind. What a wonderful sctress. No matter what Michael Landon thought regardi ng her chances of winning the Emmy he really should have kept it to himself, though. Even though we all think we won't win something it's still mice to have that "niggle" of hope we will in the back of our minds, and i think he squashed it for her. So glad to see she is doing well and was able to enjoy time with her kids while they were growing up--they are little only once and are probably happy for that and the memories they created during that time.
@loripfeifer5969 you could very well be right, but everyone says he was extremely kind to the children on the show, so I was thinking maybe he was trying to protect Melissa from being too hopeful about winning. I guess we’ll never know for sure
What a fantastic interview! Thank you both. Melissa is such a part of my childhood memories. My dad was struck by her blue eyes, just couldn’t believe the color! We were a family of dark eyed people so her eyes really stood out. She’s so lovely to listen to. Thank you both again!
Great to see Melissa looking so well. Mary Ingalls was my favourite. She was sweet, smart, level headed and polite. She kept Laura in check, being the voice of reason. At times she was almost ethereal. I cried so hard when she started to go blind in those beautiful blue eyes. Love you Mary Ingalls. ❤
Oh wow, the memories just seeing her. Great times in life thinking back on her career ❤ What a wonderful interview Harvey, thanks for bringing us along for the ride 👍🏼
She seems serious, down to earth, and sincere -- perfect for her character as Mary. The other Melissa on the show, said that she thought that Melissa Sue was conceited because she was quiet and mostly hung around with her mom -- but that was her problem. Sad that Mike L. could be so difficult at times. As always Harvey, you pull the best out of your guest stars. You are both totally COOL.
Thank you for this awesome interview! Melissa is wonderful, I had the pleasure of meeting her at a book signing in 2010 and it was an amazing experience. She was so kind and sweet. My father took me and he was also so impressed with Melissa. He has since passed away from a sudden brain tumor in 2019 but I thank Melissa for giving Dad and me a wonderful day to treasure forever! I love her book and have read it a few times and it is a comfort book for me to go back to and reread. Great interview! 🥰👍🥰
You have such a gift for interviewing. Clearly the guests feel very comfortable and connected with you. I miss the innocence of shows like Little House. Michael Landon was able to create and write stories with themes of love, compassion, family, and community. He wasn’t perfect and surely his insecurity caused problems in his relationships, but the fact that he could write these stories tells me he had that goodness somewhere in him. You can’t write what you don’t know in other words. Melissa seems like a lovely person.
I really appreciate the kindness and sensitivity in your comments. You seem like a person anyone would want to have as a cherished friend. Thank you for your support of our show.
A tremendous actress…the scene in the loft at the moment of complete blindness is unforgettable. P.S. I hope Ms. Anderson’s little dog she spoke of in another interview is feeling well.
Another great interview, @harveybrownstone! So great that you mentioned, and Melissa spoke about "Midnight Offerings," my favorite of her movies, I've watched many times. A bit of trivia Marion Ross, who played an elder witch named "Emily" in the movie, blesses "Robin Prentice", Mary Beth McDonough character with the phrase "Blessed Be!"This is used by modern Witches (Wiccans) as more of a greeting than a blessing.
Marion Ross starred with Melissa Sue Anderson two years before "Midnight Offerings" in 1979's "Which Mother is Mine?", an Afterschool Special which earned Melissa an Emmy.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Yes, you did! Unfortunately Marion and Melissa didn't have any scenes together in "Midnight Offerings." I wish they had.
I was named after her. I was born in December 1975, my mom is a huge fan of Little House. From what I understand, she and my dad hadn't picked names yet and the hospital had sent him home saying I wasn't coming yet. But I did, he wasn't there, and Little House was on after I was born. She saw Melissa Sue's name onscreen, liked it, and named me that. If I had been a boy I probably would have been named after Meathead and Gloria's son in All in the Family whose TV birth occured in December 1975.
I was born on 12/24/69. My dad was also sent home and told by the doctor that I probably wouldn’t be born for another 10 days to 2 weeks. WRONG! My nephew was born 12/19/75 when my older sister was 21 and married. They named him Joseph Thomas (Joey). I think Meathead and Gloria’s son was a Joey, too.
I never watched Little House on the Prairie. Regardless, I found the interview riveting as you touched on broader topics. I particularly love the way you gently, naturally guide your guests to new and interesting topics. You and they bring out the best in each other.
I went to high school at a private boys school in Chicago. During an assembly she came up in a video clip- dressed in modern clothes, the boys went wild with cat calls. It was so loud I cant remember even what the clip was. Then later in the assembly some cheer leaders came and did a routine for the crowd, the bulk of them started shouting "Disco sucks", it was so embarrassing. The girls were in tears. The class got a lengthy lecture about politeness after that.
Very nice , and honest interview, she needed the money is why she wrote the book, not because well everybody else did... She is one of my favorite characters on LHOTP
I always liked Melissa Sue, (Mary), she was so pretty, smart, and an amazing actress!! She played a wonderful and memorable part on “Little House on the Prairie.” I think it’s sad the way Laura and Nellie, ( Melissa and Allison ), talk unkindly about her and say derogatory things about her. I think they were and are jealous of her. Melissa Sue is a beautiful lady.❤️
Yes unfortunately Melissa and Allison (Laura and Nellie) misunderstood Melissa Sue’s shyness as being unfriendly and standoffish. And yes they were jealous especially when Melissa Sue got an Emmy nomination
Interesting and insightful interview. It was hard to hear Melissa talk about Michael Landon being insecure and kind of a jerk to some of the when we all loved him. It was honest so I suppose a part of me appreciates the bravery and raw truth.
Happy Birthday to Me is a fantastic and scary horror film and even Tarantino likes it as he's spoken well of it. This was another great interview, Harvey and Melissa was lovely as always. Please try for Catherine Oxenberg one of these days too. Keep up the great interviews!
I've listened to several interviews involving Michael Landon, and it sounds like he was a great guy who just had a mean side to him. It sounds like he just liked to mess with, control, and yes, bully people whom he knew he could, and for no other reason other than he knew he could. And Melissa is right, it was probably due to insecurity. Insecure people like to make other people insecure as well. It's sad to realize the TV heroes from your childhood were not the perfect human beings you thought they were. 😢
I enjoyed this interview very much. It is the first interview of Little House actors and actresses I've watched. The only thing I don't like is the negative talk about Michael Landon. Once she began talking about it I skipped to the next subject. It just doesn't seem right when someone is deceased to point out so many of their faults. The saying "do not speak ill of the dead" is De mortuis nil nisi bonum, Latin for "Of the dead nothing but good is to be said". If it weren't for Michael Landon, the show would not be what it was. From a fan's point of view, he was the anchor character of the show, and his character inspires me every episode. Because of my strong feelings on this, I would never read Karen's book or watch an interview where she is airing all of Michael's faults. Without him we would probably not even know who she is.
Sorry to hear that. For whatever it’s worth, everything Melissa said about Michael Landon was corroborated by Karen Grassle and Dean Butler in my interviews with them, which I sincerely hope you will watch
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Thank you for your reply, which I did not expect! I am not questioning if what she said was true or corroborated, I just don't want to hear negative things about his character. To me, it's petty gossip. Michael is not here to defend himself. What does it really accomplish? I'm sure all of their careers benefited greatly by their association with him and this show. They should focus on that instead.
She is a treasure. I was a kid when Prarie first landed...I think I was 5. She did a tv movie portraying a witch...late 70s maybe. Cannot recall its name. The commercials for this movie showed her with demon eyes and a evil glare. That commercial scared the caca out of me for years. I noticed her pic here in your tv movie retrospect doesnt mention it. Sorry if that is a no no. Thanks for this.
Glad you enjoyed the interview. She’s done so much, I couldn’t mention everything in my introduction. People already criticize me for having such long introductions
Yes, interesting interview, but especially for those who have not often seen them with M.A. I would have liked a little more diversity because of all the interviews I have listened to with her, it is always the same questions or almost the same ones that are asked... it is a bit of a shame. But in the last part of the interview, it was a little more unusual. Thank you!
I understand your frustration at hearing the same questions over and over. Unfortunately, I am not an expert on Little House so I couldn’t think of questions about that show that hadn’t already been asked. I can tell you, however, that Melissa told me afterwards that I gave her the best interview she had ever had.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Nice! I'm glad for you that she was delighted, and thank you for your answer. I might add that you can listen to other interviews with actors you think you'll meet, to have the opportunity to think about various subjects..But I like your style! That's not the question, as I hope you understood!
@ninon009 I do a tremendous amount of research in preparation for each interview, which includes watching many other interviews my guests have given. Thank you so much for your kind feedback about our show. I hope you will check out more of our interviews and consider subscribing to our TH-cam channel. It would mean the world to me. 🙏❤️
Loved this episode! I will read her book. I lost interest in Melissa Gilbert and didn’t finish her book. She is a mean, spoiled, politically ignorant woman. What a disappointment. I should have known her comments about the other Melissa were incorrect.😁👍
Sorry but those intros are here to stay. They’re a hallmark of our show and they serve a very important function: they let the guests know that they’re in the hands of a pro, which is why our guests open up the way they do. If you really can’t stand to hear all those career accomplishments of our guests, you have 2 choices. Use the fast forward button, or don’t watch us at all. After all, our show isn’t for everyone!
Yes, nice interview, but more for those who have never listened to other interviews with Melissa Anderson. What I find unfortunate is that all the interviewers almost always ask the same questions, then always the same answers, so we don't learn much anymore. There would be plenty of subjects that could be discussed!
That’s an interesting comment, because after we finished filming this interview, Melissa told me she was delighted that I did not ask her the same old questions. She said it was the best interview of her life! Sorry you’re disappointed. If she ever comes back on the show I will reach out to you and ask for better questions from you.
Harvey says " cause we all like you so much "? Wrong Harvey, We all liked the " Character " she played! ( Mary ), not Melissa! ( before this interview ).
Great interview. Thanks for mentioning my website. Melissa has always been great. She is always kind and answers my emails. Thanks, Mike

I don't remember Mike Lookingland on LHOTP and I thought I knew all the episodes
Yes he made a cameo appearance.
Melissa Sue was on the Brady Bunch in one episode.
@TheBOG3 cool
@roseann5562 all of them acknowledged repeatedly how grateful they are to Michael Landon. But I definitely understand how you feel
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 Thank you for your kindness and response. I will continue to follow your channel.
@roseann5562 thank you so much. I appreciate your support far more than you can ever know.
Melissa G may have been jealous of Melissa Sue because she’s the pretty one
Hmmmm…..interesting
her eyes changed color.
Really?
It is the lighting in the video. The same thing that makes people appear to have “red eye” makes her eyes not look blue in his video.
@GiftSparks correct. We’re working on it but webcams and zoom technology are not great.
I love how she said basketball. Just to jocks and guys guy- no such a thing as a guys hobby.
Yes! That was so cool.
@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980I figured. This was a fantastic interview.....oh, I am so finding the Karen Grassle interview also.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@timfahey7127 the Karen Grassle is epic. You’ll see!!
Could you possibly be talking about a tv movie called Summer of Fear with Linda Purcell?? That movie scared me to death! 😂😮
Oh I remember that movie. It was terrifying!!
He needs to do interviews with Merideth Baxter and Kristy McNichnol, if her can get her. I know Kristy doesn't really grant interviews.
Both have been invited many times and refused. Sorry. We’ll keep trying.
Hmmmm…..I didn’t know that about Ms Gilbert. If we ever get her on the show I assume you won’t watch?
Hopefully Lorne Lynn Armstrong doesn't find this video! Oh Cawd!
And if she does? What can she do about it?
Good interview but that 2:45 intro made me want to leave before it began. It doesn’t need to be that unbearably looooong!
I thought it was very beneficial
@nanniecath528 thank you so much. Greatly appreciated.
Why was she so mean immediately to Melissa Gilbert? Many complaints about her personality from 11-17 .
She wasn’t mean. Just extremely shy, which came across as standoffish.
Well that’s your opinion
