I believe Sweden has one of the biggest concentrations of old American cars in the world.I have friends here in TN who get their old car spare parts from Sweden.
There's "power meets" all around small towns in Sweden during the summer months and they come to my town too. Perhaps it's not always a power meet in the sense that they have all cars on a field too look at but rather they drive around in the town centre to show them, (with lots of loud music and people drinking/partying in the cars) and people gather on the sidewalks to look at the cars. It's all organized and announced. You know when they'll be there and some streets may be closed to normal traffic for an hour or three and police might be present because many drunk people may or may not cause trouble. This year the worst was the clean up after because the litter thrown around was A LOT.
After reading some comments, thing is with Raggare, if you make friends with them they are the best friends you will ever have. They have a special bond that is rare to find.
As a Camaro fan, hard to guess i know... 😋 Seen several people import a highly restored cars from the US and the first thing they have to do is take is apart and restore it. Point is that People here in Sweden has a much higher view of what is restored or not 😋 And as you pointed out those old beat up cars that look like wrecks, well usually if you look underneath or lift the hood they are very beautifuly restored, you just cant see it 😎
My coworker drives a740. Excellent condition. Last week he was in a horrid mood, so I asked why. His 740's water pump had stopped working and they wanted like 500 USD for the part. The day after he was all smiles and sunshine because he found a third party part for 60 bucks and it would be his last day of taking the bus, he even said hi might quit smoking haha
@@emileriksson76 Haha!!!! Yep the parts have risen up to fantasy figures I never thought was possible for a Volvo 740. I’ve been on a hunt for an AC, it have been humid and hot in the car this summer. But, I found one broken for free, luckily my hubby can fix it.

This coming weekend is southern Sweden's largest US car meeting and cruising "Twin Lake Run" and is expected to break a record in the number of cars and people, as the weather is forecast to be about +25C 🎙🎶🎷 RocknRoll 🎸🥁 🎶💃🕺😎👍
Not sure but I think the US like the rat rods, pick ups and 2 doors and in Sweden we prefer the bigger 4 door versions, especially with convertibles because you want to fit as many people as possible in your care and cruise the town.
Just to bring some more information, it seems like he was focused on “Raggare” what he missed is there are so much more than that, we have so much car builders in Sweden that even Americans are impressed of it . During some years there was even a special price to a special car called The Jay Leno price . It was presented by a Swedish mechanic working at Jay Lenos garage . And he forgot to mentioned that they chose 200 extra fine American cars that was the only cars allowed to drive through the closed center of Vasteras, one of them obviously won the price best car of the show .
I don't know if it's the case anymore, but there used to be physical fights between Raggare, Punks, Synth or Hard Rock fans, Kickers, Hooligans, and just more or less ordinary people. One really had to watch out for themselves in the 70-80ies. It wasn't dangerous if you took care, but if you misbehaved or did something stupid you could get seriously hurt. Usually not killed, but a broken arm or a knife cut in your face isn't all that nice either.
Yeah because those things drink a lot of expensive gas. It's not an entirely cheap hobby these days. I learned that from chatting with them a few times.
Why did he not show any video from the cruising 😅! The cruising is hilarious and quite crazy. At least it was when Power meet was held in Västerås. (I grew up in there)
Every Friday on Sveavägen (a main road/street) in Stockholm they hang out. Far more at the end of the month after pay-day (because these are thirsty cars and gas is expensive here (intentionally because environment and stuff)). Once a year during summer you have "Sveavägen Cruising" and then it's jam-packed. Traffic is diverted and parks requisitioned. It's not something that leads to any sort of unrest. The Mcdonalds at the intersection of Svea-road and Odin-street tends to be the focal point (Sveavägen/Odengatan). It's part of local culture if not straight-up tradition at this point.
They drive by our house every summer, jus the other week they met beside the church in my village, maybe 150 cars passing by. Not my thing, but seem to have lots of fun.
I am Swede, i can help you a bit, Raggare = to Bikers, like HD BIkers, but for old American cars.. But there is no Hells Angels grp for the Raggare tho ;) Also, Raggare is a kind of "American Wannabe" my wife wants a American car again.. buuuut nice one is little more than 1 million SEK...
I´d like to point out that even though they party hard, it´s not coming from a dark place. If you see a bunch of them partying at the gas station, there´s no need to avoid them more than any other drunk people. The people you need to avoid in society are those with hate in their hearts.
If you had listened properly, he mentions how these "Raggers" were in the 50's, they are not today. A Rggare today, the car and the family are the most important things to them. In Sweden, people drive their American cars every summer and many drive around the whole of Sweden. Car meetings are available From Haparanda in Northern Sweden down to Ystad in the south. Sweden's car meets are the largest outside of America. The Power Big Meet that the guy mentions, when it was at its biggest, just over 11,000 cars came to Våsterås and over 120,000 people. There were visitors from all over Europe, the USA and Canada as well as from New Zealand and Australia. and some of these brought their cars to Sweden. Sweden is also the country outside the USA that has the most American cars. Many Swedes have it as a profession to tinker with these American cars and are the 4th largest when it comes to how much money these jobs bring in for the state. Since the most important thing about all American cars, NONE of these are Trailer Queens, but here you drive the cars, thought some are worth more than 200,000 dollars and are in mint condison.
The etymology of the term "Raggare" comes from the 1890s, and applied to unregulated fly-by-night teamsters transporting goods on horse carts. Serious teamsters had their regular clients, and had their work day planned out in advance. Others drove around between the docks and the railway station, looking for goods that needed transporting (more or less stealing jobs from the established teamsters). This activity was called "ragga jobb", to "pick up work". These "raggare" were looked down on by the serious teamsters. This term also later applied to cabbies who picked up fares off the streets rather than cab ranks. When the same type of people started driving cars around town looking to pick up girls, their rude, low-class behavior soon made people see the similarity to the people trying to muscle in on transporting goods, and thus called them too "raggare".
About the Byhåla, i don't agree with the video. As the show was a satire of the Raggar-culture., I never saw it as as that they were about "more modern american cars". Instead i see it as a joke, Raggare likes American cars: So what's the lamest American car at the moment? A ~15 year old Ford Taunus as it's what many parents drove at the time, including mine and my friends parents.
One big reason for why people dislike raggare is that they drive round and round small towns, drinking and playing outrageously loud music all through the light summer nights of Sweden. It doesn't help that a lot of the music is quite rudimentary and unsophisticated and feature rather obscene lyrics. Even people who did the same themselves when they were young will start to curse the raggar-kids after a couple of nights of ruined sleep.
There are more than 100000 US cars in Sweden. Easier to find some old models in Sweden than back in the US. No one is ridiculed about this interest, just the commenter being an ass.
8:30 Well he was talking about the history, today you dont see the "greeceers" on all events, But, PowerMett and Classic Car Weak, man that´s some proper shitty people mixed 50/50 with normal American car people. so what you see in this video is VERY "clean".

Agree, like he’s trying to be funny, but it doesn’t really work… I don’t get the impression he knows much about the subject. His statement about epadunk becoming popular around 2020 is way off. loorys is a british english word we call them big rigs or trucks if them are over 3,5 tons in sweden or lastbil.
In my opinion, what they call cars today are not cars but computers with four tires, they don't even have a spare tire but they have it in a can :)
This culture is pretty big in most of the Nordics, not just in Sweden
