Guys, you should include Settlement Phase. Yes it's time taking, but it's interesting and also core of the game =)
We recorded all these videos in a day an a half, and given my day job is not related to gaming, we have to work around that, plus many other things they are recording.
Yes, please! The settlement phase is pretty fascinating. I understand the limitations you may have had (especially seeing as the game is a very long, multi-session undertaking) I hope you do more of the overall gameplay. Thanks very much for what you've done!

Honestly, in my opinion you guys have the best and highest tabletop gameplay quality. Love the camera angles, zoomed images, and explanation for a fully immersive gameplay experience. Keep up the amazing work guys! Can't wait for more!

Zaidden is it just me or is Justin changing the camera angles live and they're not actually just cutting between a few different recordings? The timing is usually spot on!
If that is the case then wow those are some nice timings! Also, it would save them a boat load of time trying to edit the videos.
That is correct. All the camera angle swaps are on the fly.
Total digression, any plans on further playthroughs? You guys are SO much more pleasant to watch than the twitch channel that the Kickstarter pushed. It seems like two of the people on that hate each other and it bleeds into their content.

Please don't edit out the Settlement Phase, it's actually really fun to watch.
Here is the irritating part. Warren you say the game is more about the civilization stuff, but you skip it on the video. I for one want to see that part. You guy have yet to show how a full year actually plays out 100%.
You will see a whole settlement phase next time. We were tight on time and so how we recorded things had to be optimised.

I can't wait for it too. It is quite the "season" finale. My own campaign at home is reaching the big finale too, but it is a People of the Stars campaign that you can play if you get the Dragon King expansion.

So, I'm just now seeing how this game has a lot of bits from Monster Hunter! Not sure why it took me 4 episodes to see that.. Also a lot of Dark Souls and a little bit of Berserk!

well i think you guys need to check up on the collision rule, the push 5 AND knockdown is only if it ends it movement on you, otherwise it's just a knockdown.
also you need to read some cards a bit more carefully, dead monster says clearly gain one RANDOM resource from a chosen monster, not pick a resource.
sounds like a high roll lets them pick instead of random?
I have no idea - just playing devils advocate.
a high roll let you get a resource from any monster you choose, but that resource is going to be random, but that means you can get an early phoenix resource for example. this game exist as a module for table top simulator and I've read the card.

At 19:12 The survivor should have been knocked down not moved back 5. The survivors only suffer a knocked back if the lion ends his movement in survivor occupied space.
Rulebook p.32 Movement Collision
"Survivors may not voluntarily pass through spaces occupied by monsters or other survivors. However monster may pass through survivor-occupied spaces. If they do, that survivor suffers collision and is knocked down. If a monster ends its movement in a survivor-occupied space, the survivor is knocked down and suffers knockback 5."

I Kickstarted the 1.5 core game and expansion (wish I could have swung the extra cash for all of the expansions). Summer can't come soon enough. Hopefully the Nightmare Ram expansion comes out this year.
You dont get to chose which resource you get from the dead monster, you chose which monster resource deck to draw from then draw one at random. And always go for the phoenix man.

It is certainly a feature to have this campaign using all painted models. The fact they are my painted models is just one more thing to be proud of.

Imo it's more interessant than a full fight phase to see what KDM is about.

Omg, Butcher is gonna be awesome!
If you thought the lions were getting a bit easy the Butcher is a nice little wake up call to help reset the balance.
Even with my experience of fighting the bastard, it is a hell of a fight.
Basically you want lots of bandages (and perhaps someone with a full rawhide armour set as well). Doesn't equipping drums help as well? Anything that helps you keep survival points, really.
Recently we had great success against the Butcher. Someone rolled 100 on the hunt chart the year before and we ended up getting the steel sword and steel shield. One of our survivors also had some frenzy drink so we gave him the sword and let him loose on the Butcher while a brave new child wielded the shield to fend off his blows.
It was the most successful Butcher encounter I've experienced to date.
Seeing all the comments saying how they skipped settlement phases again makes me not want to watch the rest of the series. Such a shame. I wish there was another long play like this one.

You kept forgetting about the Lions missing tail. There were several times it wouldn't have hit due to the -1 from missing tail.

Can't believe I haven't seen you guys before! Liking these play throughs as a rough introduction to the game rules and themes (though you do seem to be particularly lucky, even with prior knowledge).
Is there a release schedule with this campaign? Glancing through your videos i couldn't gather one by inspection.
We put out the series on each Friday of the campaign of the KS for Kingdom Death 1.5, with the last one tomorrow, and more will be recorded in the new year.
I'm gonna skip the small mistakes cuz it happens to everyone that plays this game, but there is something that is kinda making you play in "easy mode".
There is a line in the rulebook that specifically says that when you control the monster, you have to move it and act in the way that is worst for the players. This means that he won't make the blindspot so easy to reach, will trample survivors if he has a chance and things like that.
That being said, I think you're doing a great job with the videos and I'm eager to see what happens with The Butcher. Last time I played it we had a TPK, really nasty.

Really the way we are fighting the lion is all about minimizing tramples etc. So yes, it will collide if it can, but blindspots, sorry to say, but the monster has to turn and face the attacker, if that means it works to our advantage.
I'll check it again, cuz I did a fast read this morning and couldn't see it, but I'm pretty sure there's a line that says something like that.
Me being "pretty sure" will most probably mean I'm wrong, but I want to double check for my own games :P
Anyway, that's on the monster side. On the survivors side I think you're being really great tacticians and quite bold, kudos!

Showdown setup was wrong. Survivors have to be 6 spaces away from the lion. In that case you cannot attack melee the first round unless you have movement +1.

Also depends on the level of the White Lion, if it has Enrage mood active, and lots of things :P

At 19.00 you have the collision. but unless i'm reading it wrong it only knocks down a survivor. knockback only occurs when it ends it space on a survivor am i right?

Would be better if Chris didn't spoil the coming up encounters for the other 2. Knowing that you need extra weapons and bandages before you fight the Butcher ruins that first experience IMO.
There seems to be mixed views on things, but given we are planning to play through the entire campaign, it would make for bad viewing if we were totally unprepared for each encounter. So people should think of this as a optimised run. It's totally personal choice to go into the game completely blind. If we want to showcase as much of the game we have to strike a balance.
I get what you're saying but I think by doing TOO well on a first game you're also kind of misrepresenting the game. One of the key things to understand about Kingdom Death is the brutality, both thematically and mechanically. If I'd never played the game I would have the impression from these playthroughs that it is quite easy. 4 years in and I don't think anyone has even had a serious injury, let alone any deaths. You always hint at 'oh no, this could go really badly' but nothing ever does. Now you're auto-hitting and killing level 1 lions with ease... it made for a boring video IMO. You should have gone to a Level 2 Lion even if you got some casualties or had the entire party wiped out... at least we'd be seeing THAT part of the game, instead of a rinse, repeat type video. I honestly don't want to watch any more videos of easy hunts, it's just not entertaining. I don't know... it just seems to me you're missing a whole part of the Kingdom Death experience that people should see to get an accurate picture of the game. What we're seeing is NOT what anyone's first experience of the game will be like.
In the nicest possible way... I really hope the Butcher takes a few scalps...
Well watching these videos to any extent will spoil any of the game play for new players. I don't think there is any best way to mitigate that. If you want to go in blind - don't watch these videos.
I mean last video people were complaining the Antelope fight was too long, too boring. This one swung the other way due to some luck on getting a saviour. The next fight though is a good example of what a nemesis can do.
I look forward to it :) And I am enjoying the video series as a whole. I agree with you that it is about striking a balance and I'm sure that's not easy to do. I just feel as though the brutal aspect of Kingdom Death has not really been seen so far in these videos. That can be as entertaining to see as a super survivor making short work of a hapless Level 1 Lion.
I remember when the original Kickstarter was running and watching the demo video and the Survivors head being torn right off by the Lion and thinking 'wow, this isn't like other games'. I'd like to see the team's reactions to seeing the vulnerabilities of their Survivors. I'd like to see a bit more adversity and a bit less optimization I suppose. To use a videogames analogy I guess your playthrough is more like a walkthrough than a blind 'Let's Play' and that is fair enough.
If you really intend to play through a whole campaign (and I hope you do) maybe you should only make full videos for the most interesting years and just summarize the relatively uneventful years. Because it will be a lot of videos, obviously, and the routine hunts will get boring to watch quite quickly: nothing to do with you guys at all, it's just the repetition.
Thanks for the personal response and apologies if I seem hyper-critical; I am actually enjoying the series a lot and it's a must-watch when it comes up in my subscriptions. I'm just one of those guys who can't help but wade in with his ten pence worth when a debate arises :P

This game's pricetag is so ridiculously high it's not even funny.
Come on! It is paper and plastic/resin and some ink.
Completely out of reach for so many of us.
The game delivers 70+ hours of gameplay per campaign. There are some 500 cards, a 200 page rule book and then the miniatures. These are HIPS plastic, that require steel cut molds to make. And whatever you may think, the cost of producing those and printing the books and cards, is why it costs what it does.
Compare that to the cost of buying a warhammer 40k army that is 1000pts, and the rulebook, and the templates, an the codex, and it is an equivalent cost or more.
So relatively speaking the cost of the game is good value.
And some of us also have bills to pay and more - and the date for this KS has been known for months in advance, and in that time people have been saving up. Also the KS is running for 5 weeks, so for some people that also means the cost is spread out over two pay days.
Ultimately it is your choice to back or not, I just would say that the cost is more than fair.

Echoing everyone else, gutting the settlement phase in favor of shorter videos or more monster battling is really diminishing the enjoyment of this series.
