About Papadakis Racing
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2022, 2021 and 2015 championship titles with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as back-to-back championships with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008.
This season, Fredric Aasbo returns to defend his title in the Rockstar Energy Toyota GR Supra, while Ryan Tuerck also returns to the team to drive the Toyota Corolla hatchback.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport-compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club.
You can tell Stephan is a great dad. He knows so much about cars and mechanics, but when he talks to his son, he's a regular guy, not being a know-it-all who explains everything. That's a sign of good parenting - gives his kid space to contribute.
this RAV4 is why I subscribed, glad to see it's triumphant return!
It's been a while since I've seen a video from Papadakis Racing...
All I can say is, it's well worth the long wait!^^
Literally the only time steph will let us see his tire gauge 😅
😂
i was really exited to see the rav4 continue. i though the project was scrapped and channel abandoned. for a while on the previous episodes i was asking about the cad files for the skid plate. do you still have those?
also hoping to see an actual project video of the swap. is that coming soon? the other episodes were so helpful to follow along with making the suspension mods to my 4dr, really hoping to see the swap process.
i would really appreciate a response, there arent many people who have gone in depth with these wonderful little machines and have a platform to share their process.
also, im happy to see you go on an adventure with friends and family. nothing beats a road trip to nowhere!
If you really want a response then pay the man his consultation rate.
@@mylantadavis3092 this isn't for consultation smartass, i want to contact him to buy the cad files for the skid plate. This isn't onlyfans.
What all have you done to your 5 door? Anywhere we could see it? I'm so tempted in getting one. It really doesn't help that I just found a 3SGTE locally for less than $500.
6:05 😂
wasted
He went flying!
Haha! Couldn't do a desert road trip without taking the Arrma RC cars! I just got the new Mojave 4S and this thing rocks! Thanks for taking us along, I love this little nugget of a car
EDIT: Holy shit that kid got leveled by that Senton! 6:05 LOL I hope he was alright
Came to the comments to see if anyone else saw that at 6:05. I felt bad but also played it back at least 10x 😂.
Great adventure, thanks for bringing us all along with you for the ride.
The Rav 4 is awesome, would be great to see a more in depth video on the rest of the build. Love seeing 16v Turbo on the valve cover, and the blue manual boost controller when you propped the air box open at the water crossing.
I loved "Yay, we didn't break the engine!". It reminds me of driving my 3 y.o. around in my 3sgte swapped Celica.
glad to see another Rav4 video; no clue where this thing is going but the journey is fun so far.
Need more of this Rav4! Awesome!!!
This is great... seeing Stephan this many years later still doing amazing things with cars. From the days of racing under the bridge to breaking world records to now climbing mountains.
You made me love my 98 Rav4 all over again. Great suspension mods you really know your stuff. I couldn't get enough of the video.
That kid flipping lmao 🤣
I Saw it too lol! He absolutely beaned himself and nobody said shit, Lil guy didn't say nothing either!
Happy to see more Rav4 content.
Never thought id see a Steph and Larry desert boggn video with their boys, this is awesome! From 3D printing Inkanel race parts to raw dawgn the Mojave. Hell yeah
1st gen rav4 owner myself... ill tell you im loving this content, seeing these videos are great, enjoy you putting that rav through the ringer, lets see more out of this thing !
I've always missed my '99 rav4, for what it was, it was a beast. It was one of the best vehicles I've owned in the snow.
Quick question, how good were the center difflocks on them?
YES!! I was wondering what was going on with the RAV4, definitely worth the wait!
Love this content format. Looks like a great adventure
th video about you breaking down the b58 brought me here. i love how you got old cars and give them a new lease on life. these new cars are great but the simplicity of older cars makes them the best in my opinion
it's super fun you're doing this with the RAV4, trails I've taken with my trucks for years, and you're seemingly new at this just cool to see your perspective coming from Drift
Thanks for the upload, always love your videos. Happy holidays to you and your family
This was perfect timing. I was just looking for the Rav on this channel yesterday. Awesome build!
Poor kid got wrecked by the rc car😂
Cool to see Papadakis hanging out with Sonadakis.
😂😂😂😂
Excellent hack trail repair on the exhaust. Perfect.
This video was well worth the wait!!
Loved that air intake trick. So simple but not something I would have thought of.
Wish you guys made more content. But love whatever we can get.
Hey men, it has been a while! it's good to see a video from you again!
Love seeing a guy sharing cars and adventure with his son
< That little RAV4 did it! Undoubtedly saved our lives, and the mission. It is to be commended >
Hope to see more of this build, was really enjoying the rav4 vids ✌🏼
) p popoplo
I'm so happy you and this rav are back! Your videos have such a good, unique style.
Kewl adventure.
Been missing Papadakis Racing videos.
What, no tie wire? Also, a 20lb CO2 tank, for tires, is a personal must have, for these sort of adventures.
The boy having collision😂
Papadakis and Larry Chen, what a cool combo! Its been way too long since you made a video though!!!
That Rav4 is sick... I love it❤
This is a very good conversion the only thing is missing is the rear celica differential maybe in the future you will get to it, on my 96 rav4 gt4 conversion I was able to incorporate the celica rear differential and my rav is a complete celica conversion, keep up the good work Stef!!!
Such awesome memories with the kid man.
Hello from NorCal! I saw Larry in La Paz at Baja mil '23! Take the Rav!!
Been missing you bro. Keep smashing out that content brother....
Christmas comes early! Really enjoyed the video! Hoping to take my daughters out one day and do this :)
Oh man, I was just thinking about this Rav 4 the other day. So much fun!
Ah man that Rav4 is soooo soooooo cool.
I put that same shift knob (black version) in my Miata because of this build. Love the design and feel of it.
Memories those boys won't soon forget. What an awesome road trip!
Niceeeee, been waiting for you to upload video
That feeling I got with my first Skunk2 intake manifold in the early 2000s.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What a rad little car, love to see it. We typically carry bailing wire or safety wire for stuff like hanging the exhaust.
Also that STi hood scoop is 👌🏻
Love that 2 door! 👌🇨🇦🤘
We have to go rav4 off roading, call larry
Love this little thing!
What a cool trip with kids 😍
This looks like so much fun
Nice set up diggin the astro van yall passed to.
this is a great channel and I love the rav4
Man, the dude at the beginning so sounds like Larry Chen 😆Oh there he is...
Saw you guys on the trail we were in the prado with the land rovers 🤙🤙
Welcome back Steph!
Yo “ Stephan and Larry take on Mojave w/ Stephan Papadakis & Larry Chen” insane caption
I also own a 3dr first gen! I’m curious, aside from a bit of cutting, have you had any problems with the wheels poking out 30mm more than stock? I’m looking at some 15mm offset wheels but I’m worried about it causing problems given stock is 45mm
I LOOOOOVE those wheels on the rav.
This small RAV4 is a quite capable machine. But it would definitely benefitial to put some front and rear lockers on it.
Just left foot brake.
I don't think he can with a clutch and no low gear. @@DriftaholiC
Some sort of locker or rear lsd, hell even a welded diff would make this thing a beast
Hey pal, I loved this build project! When did you do the GT4 engine conversion.. I wish there was a vid! 👌🏽
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Nice, our yearly upload...
A nice mod would be a snorkel :) when you see a puddle it's go time :)
Tip for water crossings. Unless water is pouring in through your doors or you're getting pushed sideways from a current, you want to go very slowly and build a small wave in front of the vehicle.
Need to rename that Toyota Rav4 to Totally Rad 4 wheeler 😅
Glad to see the progress on the Rav4. Also glad to see others enjoy off-roading.
Wouldn't mind seeing a custom Prinsu-style roof rack, full lighting setup, and a custom air intake snorkel.
Maybe disconnect the front sway bar.
And keep metal zipties in your tool kit.
Wonder if Torq-Master Industries or Spartan Lockers makes an Automatic Locker that would fit into that thing. A rear locker would transform it's off-road performance
I have a 98 rav4 and always had the thought of putting a 3sge or gte in there is that what you have in there i seen the cooling fans and the turbo writing. Did it come like that when you bought it? I would love to see a video if you did install it sick build bro
It was great to see the rav back. I'm surprised you still appear to be running an open rear diff. I thought you would have put in the torsion rear from an auto rav. Three wheel drive will always get you further than two.
I just got home from the MT. I was surprised by the challenge. I was expecting a more leisurely trail
The shot at 11:08 is hilarious, haha
Your kid is hilarious
There's this knocking sound from the rear diff (1995 Manual Rav) after shift or when accelerating after braking. What could be causing it?
For stuf like the muffler, i usually carry some construcion black steal wire thats easy way to fix things
😊 Cool adventure 😊👍 !!
At this point I cant watch any more Larry Chen’s face. He is everywhere and saturation point has been crossed.
3:06 famous last words
Suspension is cool, but what about diff locks ? (rear/front)
That rag 4 looks insane
Ikr? The 2dr ravs look like a hot wheels car. Its what attracted me to them as a kid
Zip Ties fix everything!!
thats so cool lol what are those locations / trail names?
I see you are a Toyota guy now but do you still mess with Hondas? I wonder what you think of the Element as a potential off road camper.
IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU MADE A VIDEO! HAHAHAHA🤣
Has this been turbo'd between part 2 and now?
great wheels
Question. Did you build a turbo blow thru SBC RX7 in the early 90s.
Could these modifications be pulled off with a 2004 toyota sienna?
Would love to see a rally build with the 3.5L 3rd gen rav4 with the V6.
I*
The internet when most people wheel with open diffs: "get a locker, amateur. Real offroaders will buy a truck/jeep/whatever"
The internet when Steph Papadakis wheels with open diffs: "hell yeah"
11:20 It's always 420 somewhere. 😉
I've been in the market for a utv.. Honda pioneer/ Polaris RZR.. etc. those things are soo expensive. I wonder how a RAV4 like this would compare.. maybe a on some RZR size tires.. 15 inch narrow rims.. half doors.. small tube bumpers front and rear.. maybe even a small bed in the back with enclosed cabin in front.. a hunting trail riding rig. no one has built one. would be awesome to take all fenders off lights off and do a exocage of some sort.. really considering this year RAV4 as the Honda pioneer and Polaris are about just as wide or wider than this.
Cool RAV4, but the Mojave Road is nowhere near Joshua Tree National Park. Good thing you didn’t get lost.
I totally forgot about this series. 😅
not how i cross unknown bodies of water but each to their own. Dropped into a corner of a river crossing in my old unimog 404 once 6' hole and 5 hours of digging to get out. lucky for me the insanely long wheelbase and clearance kept me right side up .
