  • Instead of going to the very crowded part of the Great Wall of China (Badaling), we went to a part in a rural town. We saw only one other group of people on our hike and we even camped overnight in a tent on the Great Wall. It was about a 4-hour bus journey to a family´s house that makes this possible. Then a 3-hour hike to where we slept. You may sleep at their home where they have 4 rooms, or sleep on the wall. The cost is the same. Don´t miss out on the delicious lunch there. The cost was very, very affordable. It was an amazing experience and we highly recommend organizing your trip to the Great Wall with the family from Great Wall Fresh. You won´t regret it! www.greatwallfresh.com/

Hey! Thanks for the great video. I’ve been doing some research on this. I plan on doing the walk in mid September. Can I ask how you knew where you were going, whether you returned on the same path to get back to the house and how long you walked for each day? Thanks! And can’t wait!

Awesome, enjoy! We were there in late May. Beijing was super hot but on the wall it was pretty chilly in the evening, mostly because of the wind.

Wow it's so impressive. Didn't know you can sleep on the wall too. Are there any restrictions? Can believe it's awesome to wake up on the wall. Thanks for sharing your experience

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I am sure you cannot sleep on the parts where you must pay to enter. But the family who runs Great Wall Fresh seems to think it's allowed here. Thanks for the comment :)

Wow! What a magical experience! I really hope to do this when the world is a safer place to travel. What time of year did you guys visit China?

We hope you can go as well! We went in May/June. It was very hot in the day but cold and windy on the wall at night.

Wow! How long you took to where u set ur tent for the night? And you returned on the same route?

It took about 3 hours. No, we didn't return on the same route. We continued along the wall and eventually down the hill to the main road for another 3 hours. The full route is a loop and you can't get lost because it's the only path there!

Camping on the Great Wall is illegal, but when there are no people, do what ever you want
Well, don’t build a house with it
