    Most impressive and very stirring, even for British colonials in Australia. The precision of the pedalwork never fails to amaze me. Compliments also to a hard-working registrant.

    Land of hope and glory,
    Mother of the free,
    How shall we extol thee,
    Who are born of thee?
    Wider, still, and wider,
    Shall thy bounds be set.

    Beautifully played and as someone else remarked, played with reverence and respect. For those who do not know, there are words to the hymn tune in the middle which my wife and I always sing when attending a graduation in the USA. We have had many startled looks from other attendees so we explain that Land of Hope and Glory is regarded as the second National Anthem in England. The first line is:
    Land of Hope and Glory, mother of the free.

      I love this piece, and I love your nom de plume ! Now, five awful years have passed, and Science is embattled (and Truth is clinging to flotsam) in THIS "last best hope of Mankind". I hope you're doing better in "Brexitannia". Let me know. I hope you are well, my British friend !

      Joe Boyle Thank you so much for your kind and gracious words. I am a Brit but I live in the USA in TN.
      My wife and I were in England when the Covid problem started to accelerate, we were at a funeral for one of my wife’s sisters and so we decided to cut the visit short and return to the USA ASAP. We were lucky, BA and the travel agents were great, Heathrow was deserted and JFK was a ghost town. We were so happy to see our daughter in Nashville when she came to pick us up.
      Since then we have been confined to barracks, a more welcoming and comfortable barracks cannot be imagined.
      We are well and our family is well.
      I do hope you are also doing well, best wishes from myself and my family

    Par cette magnifique prestation donnée il y a un an, on voit vraiment que Gert van Hoef, alors âgé de 21 ans, a acquis la maturité de son art. Désormais, indéniablement, c'est lui "le patron". Et dire que cinq ans auparavant, son professeur lui tirait encore les registres ! Cet organiste est vraiment sidérant, par la justesse de ses interprétations et la musicalité dont il sait faire preuve. "Pomp and Circumstance" d'Elgar, transcrit pour orgue, va être joué prochainement sur les grandes orgues de l'église Saint-Eustache, à Paris, à deux reprises : le dimanche 24 avril 2016, à 17 h 30, par François Olivier, titulaire de l'orgue de choeur ; le dimanche 1er mai, même heure, par François-Henri Houbart, titulaire des grandes orgues de la Madeleine. Gert van Hoef ferait merveille sur ce "monstre" parisien (5 claviers, plus de 100 jeux, 8000 tuyaux !), un instrument à la mesure de son immense talent. Messieurs Ospital et Marle-Ouvrard, il faudra bien l'inviter à se produire un jour ou l'autre sur cet orgue... sinon, on le kidnappera pour en faire un organiste parisien !...

    Gert, a lovely rendition.
    Be sure you play in Britain so everyone can join in with the words. This is one of the great patriotic songs on this planet, usually sung with gusto (and on key) by EVERONE at the last night of the Proms.
    Well done!
    ======================================
    Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free,
    How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
    Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set;
    God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet!
    Truth and Right and Freedom, each a holy gem,
    Stars of solemn brightness, weave thy diadem.
    Tho' thy way be darkened, still in splendour drest,
    As the star that trembles o'er the liquid West.
    Throned amid the billows, throned inviolate,
    Thou hast reigned victorious, thou has smiled at fate.
    Land of Hope and Glory, fortress of the Free,
    How may we extol thee, praise thee, honour thee?
    Hark, a mighty nation maketh glad reply;
    Lo, our lips are thankful, lo, our hearts are high!
    Hearts in hope uplifted, loyal lips that sing;
    Strong in faith and freedom, we have crowned our King!

    I listened to other versions of this piece found on the right. I'm afraid they all sound like a contest to see who can play the piece fastest....notes running together so closely that it only sounds like a changing continuous tone. If that is the intent, then good for them but Gert has found what I believe is the perfect tempo.

    Wonderful playing, Gert! Well done. No fault of yours, obviously, but the organ couldn't and doesn't do this Pomp and Circumstance march justice. It does need a large English style concert/cathedral organ for it to work, especially as it is essentially a sumptuous orchestral score. But your playing is stupendous; I wish I had 10% of your skill!! You've a glittering career as a concert organist ahead of you, if that's where you see your future to lie. With every good wish, Peter from London.

    What a performance! Not sure about the very un-Elgar-like pedal scale at 6.51, but why not? It's an interpretation, after all, and you have a great emotional climax at the end. (I hope you include this in your UK recital, later this year, at the Victoria Hall, Hanley.)

      Robert Baker We must consider, I suppose, that the registrant may not have had sufficient practice before the recital. As one who has performed that task many times, I know what it is like, trying to keep up with the stop changes, the page turns and, on occasion, an organist who sways about and nods along with the music, even when he is *not* trying to indicate a page turn!

      Offshoreorganbuilder Here's hoping that Jan is able to accompany Gert to Hanley and London. They make awesome music together.

    Interessant. Hoofdthema misschien wat langzamer dan gewoon tempo.

    Big fan of Gert van Hoef, but it's sort of like trying to take an opera and make an orchestral arrangement out of it. It just doesn't quite do it justice because it's not as fitting. There are parts missing.

    Not that I could have played this nearly as well, but I'd have preferred a cleaner orchestration (more flutes, fewer reeds) and a faster tempo in the middle section. But overall, very well done!

      +BigBen Hebdomadarius I agree. You can't always capture the same effect with the organ. Especially since there are no percussion
