Part II Discovering Northern Peninsula and Southern Labrador by boat

- This is Part II of a three part series that takes you to two resettled communities in Southern Labrador. The scenery is spectacular and the history is rich. In Henley Harbour, I learn about the British-Inuit Treaty of 1765 and go back to the roots of my wife's Grandmother, Marjorie George, in Cape Charles.

More than a scenic tour of the coast and abandoned communitie, but a true voyage of discovery. Great camera work and historical insight.
That is a master piece, Mr. O'Reilly !!! Thank you for that ... Such impressive sailing and historical perspective... To think people and Europeans were there in the 1700's with such activity is phenomenal.... The fishing must have been so good and so easy...

I love this video. the part of the video about the henley harbor is so surreal. but it's so sad to see the place where I used to play as a child in such disrepair. my family has descended from the Stones my grandmother and her mother and so on and my grandmother's father was a Pie. and we used to go here for summer trips. my family still has a residence here as far as I know my uncle's house in the harbor. thank you for the areal shots wish there was more.
Hi Ed... this is the most interesting tour of the Islands in Southern Labrador I have ever seen my friend. The scenery is amazing and the whole tour is very Mysterious. Every Newfoundlander/Labradorian should see this. Thank you very much for including me in this gift of History. Best luck. Harry Sulley

People talk and always talk about traveling to Florida and many other places toward south... this type of journey and expedition is Priceless Ed,as you already know. so much to see and soooo much more, still to learn of this beautiful land of Newfoundland and Labrador ...Lovely venture Sir ty

Ed, I am glad that your sailing along NL's coastline came up in our conversation today. I was not aware of your videos and this provided the opportunity for me to view what you have done. I hope to get to Labrador sometime. My father use to fish there back in the 60's. Looks like a beautiful place with such a rugged coastline.

Excellent series on NL. I had hoped to sail there this season to enjoy some of the coastline you showed, but events have conspired against me. Maybe next year. Again, terrific storytelling.

@@EdOReilly I sailed to St Pierre et Miquelon and then directly to Newfoundland (Royal NYC) and then return to Ireland. The limited visit gives me an excuse to return. :-)

Another great job. I was in Henley last summer, twice, and manage to tie up alongside on Stage Island. When I was there a few years ago there were to govt bldgs but I guess someone need one so took the other. I chuckled when I read about your hunt for Fort York. I did the same thing but have been fortunate enough to get back and to actually walk the ground. Also found the route to the top of the mountain.
That was fantastic, Ed ! *Really* enjoyed it - very informative, over and above the video and photography. A real educational look into much less well-known parts of our history.

I had an uncle who worked at the whaling factory in Williams port after the whaling factory located in Indian Harbour, Placentia bay was closed down

I was also in Cape Charles last summer and managed to get alongside in a blow. It was tricky. I ventured into the attic of the large two story house and got some neat pics of newspaper clipping. My sister=in=law's great grandfather (Frank Lewis) was manager of Battle Harbour and she wanted a pic of his headstone. Buried in the Pye Cemetery sounded easy enough. Like Fort York, damned if I could find the cemetery. Found out it is located on the south coast in a place called Shoal Cove. I got the pics.

Thank you for your kind words. I have been to most parts of Newfoundland and the Southern portion of Labrador. But there are some many places in these areas that it would take two lifetimes. Keep watching my videos; there are 24!!
