Cool I just picked up a trailer for a sailboat yesterday. Contessa 26 are sweet little sailboats. Have you seen the James Baldwin Atom. Sailboat videos? If not he has some good stuff to see and think about.
Hi Jason, what do you use to clean a project like that? I've receny brought a Noelex 22 that has sat in a paddock for 6 years. Any tips appreciated, cheers Ed.
Hi Jason I am the previous owner who details are on the plate. We had Niho for a couple of years in the eighties, I often wonder what happened to her . Looks like she has survived quite well in the circumstances. I have details that might be of interest. I even have her original self steering gear used on the voyage from Canada.
Sorry about the sound quality right when I ask you all a question. The question I ask is this: It has had an inboard diesel. Has anyone considered putting in one of those small air cooled 6-13hp air cooled diesel engines? Could they work? They are a fraction of the price of a marine diesel and could be quite fun and easy to install......maybe better than an outboard?
Air-cooled is not a good idea in a sailboat. Look how small the engine compartment is - you won't get enough circulation. And you will heat the boat up in summer time big time. However -- we both have a Contessa 26, and while my stern bracket for outboard works ok, there is an even better solution to free up the stern for self steering gear, by having a side mounted outboard bracket, that looks like any dinghy bracket when not in the lowered position. This guy in the following link had one fabricated for his yacht and I emailed him and he tells me it works great. Just need someone brainy enough with that engineering mind to draw up plans for it and get it fabridated in stainless. th-cam.com/video/0dhDtIOhsbk/w-d-xo.html. We could get a pair made and get a discount at a stainless fabricator!
Onboard if you can afford it, I did the outboard on one long day and night in winter n.w. ireland , never again
Well done. She looks outstanding!
Dude I love the contessa 26 ) its going to be great once it finished.
