There’s no other song called Spinning Wheel. I wonder if you’re thinking of Wheel in the Sky from Journey? Two requests from you and you won’t be sorry. Doobie Brothers - South City Midnight Lady Arlo Guthrie - City of New Orleans
This was interesting and fun to see, but with most of Blood, Sweat & Tears' music, I'd go with the studio recordings, as they were so well-produced, and the horns really shine. As mentioned below by a few others, their big hits besides this one (and great tunes in their own right) are "You've Made Me So Very Happy", "Hi-De-Ho", and "And When I Die", with others including "Go Down Gamblin'", "God Bless the Child", & "Lucretia MacEvil". The lead singer, David Clayton Thomas, has such a soulful voice that pairs so well with their unique backing sound.
Argh, sorry they were blocked! Still worth checking out "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and the brilliant "And When I Die" and "Hi-De-Ho". Headed to your pinned link now to check this one out!
I've been waiting for some David Clayton Thomas!!! You can't mistake his voice for anyone else. I'm sorry this video was blocked, but hope it won't stop you from checking out some other great Blood Sweat and Tears songs.... "And When I Die", "You've Made me so Very Happy". Thanks for this one J!!
"You MAde me so Very Happy", "And When I Die", "Hi-De-Ho" and "Lucretia Mac Evil" are awesome. Must react to. As for the title your reacting to, I think it might be "Wheel in the Sky".
One time on "The Newlywed Game" the couples were asked "What band name best describes your wedding night?". One newlywed replied "Blood, Sweat & Tears". I've never forgotten that! I agree with others, you need to hear the studio version of their songs. So well done & what we were listening to on the radio & our stereos. "And When I Die" is one of their most well-known. David Clayton Thomas had a great voice.💙
I played the trombone in high school and this song was popular at the same time. That trombone smear/glissando was one of the first things I learned to do. My trombone was on a stand in my room and when this song would come on the radio, I'd grab it and play along with the band. lol Love this group. Thanks for your reaction, Jamel and thanks for going the extra mile to get your reaction to us. Take care and be well. Peace.
Thanks for keeping great music alive! Got to see BS&T live just before the "pandemic" at SeaWorld (of all places). Great show with very talented musicians. Showed up early, waited hours, got front row indoor seating, then got pictures with the band afterwards, worth the wait!
FINALLY!!!! I have requesting Blood Sweat & Tears for 3 years......and you are finally getting to one of gods of Rock n' Roll who began the whole Jazz/Rock fusion thing that you love from Steely Dan and Earth Wind & Fire.....man....you took a long time on this!!!!
I loved this group! Their sound was unique. They were so good & so popular, they won a Grammy for "Album of the Year" in 1970 against The Beatles & other nominees; so they weren't some fly by night group & they're still touring! Like others below have suggested, one of my favorites is "You've Made Me So Very Happy"!
I first saw David Clayton Thomas in the basement of an Italian church in Hamilton, Ontario in 1965. It was David with the Bossmen. Outstanding band. He still performs. Saw him at a street concert in Westdale Village in Hamiton in summer of 2019. Still has that voice. These guys also played at Woodstock in '69.
Surprised you’ve never heard of them. One of the most powerful fusions of jazz and rock in the late ‘60’s. David Clayton Thomas had such a strong voice.
I’m number 38 in likes! I was 1 once! BS&T were one of the best. Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire! So off track and brilliant they were! Thank you for sharing! Xod
My absolute favorite song to play (trombone) in high school jazz band, some 25+ years ago!!! I still throw this on the record player every now and then when feeling nostalgic. Off to go watch it on patreon, can't wait.
Jamel were you thinking of Stealers Wheel and their song Stuck in The Middle With You? That came to mind straight away. I really loved this. Watching your link now!❤️
This band is awesome! They came to Jacksonville State College one year when my husband was there. The trombone player got sick so they chose my husband to play with them. 1 of the best experiences of his life!
Gotta react to these Blood, Sweat, and Tears tunes: You Make Me So Very Happy, I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know, And When I Die, God Bless The Child, Hi-De-Ho, Go Down Gamblin', and Lucretia MacEvil.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for getting around to reacting to blood, Sweat, and Tears. As mentioned in other comments there are a lot of their songs to listen to.
This song and, Up, Up and Away, are the music of the dawn of my life. Here Comes the Sun, was another, and, Magic Carpet Ride, but those seem later for me. I'm talking two and three years old, those were the songs from the radio that I remember. As a kid there are also Xmas carols and school songs, hymns and songs from Sunday School, jump rope and jacks songs, all sorts of music. But those two were from the radio, the first I remember, and I can recall them from my highchair.
Before D C-T joined there was an album with Al Kooper in the group: the song "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" got played a lot on our FM rock station, and is worth checking out, if unfamiliar with it. From the second version of the group, I think their version of Laura Nyro's "He's a Runner" from BS&T 3 hits hard -- a nice "deep cut"!
I do believe this song is longer. I think it might have been cut off. Because I remember the part where they cut it off it keeps going and it sounds like a circus carousel. I may be wrong though. LOL - Mary🌞 actually here I found it the song is actually 4 minutes. This is only audio though if you want to hear the full song. th-cam.com/video/SFEewD4EVwU/w-d-xo.html
You're thinking of a calliope, a musical instrument that produces a whistling sound using steam or compressed air. Yes, that's part of the original studio version.
Blood, Sweat, and Tears came out almost exactly when the Band Chicago did. The similarities between the two Bands are very obvious. The horn sections, the style of the songs they both composed etc. David Clayton Thomas' vocals are just fantastic. The musicianship is also top shelf. Like Chicago, Blood sweat and Tears, were different than all of the other Rock Bands from the same era. They were at their peak in the early 70s, and then seem to sort of fade away. I don't know exactly why, but their must be a story, that many of us aren't aware of. Great Band, with some iconic music! Please play a few more if you can. Lots more to choose from. Thanks
I can't think of any other songs with the same title, but a song with the same theme using the same basic metaphor is "The Circle Game" by Joni Mitchell.
It’s been over 40 years since I heard this song & I could still sing along! Never dissected the lyrics, but catch a paint pony on a spinning wheel is a carousel, right?
Spinning wheel, not sure. Journey has 'wheel in the sky' ,one of the Beatles had ' Let me roll it to you ( My heart is like a wheel) Billy Preston had "Will it go round in circles"..... only close ones I can think of...
@@theplanetruth maybe.. i guess, guess it can mean whatever you want it to . It was originally " Wheels in my Mind " , they changed it to sky to flow better. Listening to the song i get the feeling they're just saying time will not stop for me, regardless of what I'm going thru .
To save time and fill the air with greatness just dig into Blood, sweat and Tears Tears greatest Hits album to experience the absolutely INCREDIBLE Horn work. Practically every high school and college band in the USA and the 70s were using Blood Sweat & tears horn Arrangements . It was Great!
Cover versions and samples Peggy Lee's 1969 single release climbed the Easy Listening chart, with a peak at #24, even before the BST version.[15] Benny Goodman's instrumental version was released on a Reader's Digest album in 1973.[16][17] Sammy Davis Jr. included the song on his 1970 album Something for Everyone[18] Shirley Bassey included the song on her 1970 album Something. Nancy Wilson covered the song in the Hawaii Five-O episode "Trouble in Mind," which originally aired September 23, 1970. In 1970 Marianne Mendt released a version of the tune in Austria as "A g'scheckert's Hutschpferd" Barbara Eden performed a live version on U.S. television in 1970.[19] Jazz organist Dr. Lonnie Smith recorded an extended instrumental version for his 1970 Blue Note album Drives. American organist Lenny Dee covered Spinning Wheel on an album by the same name in 1970.[20] James Brown scored a minor hit in 1971 with an instrumental version of the song, reaching #90 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also performed it at his shows as early as 1969.[21][22] Canadian a cappella music group, Cadence also covered this song. In 1970 P.P. Arnold recorded a version produced by Barry Gibb; it remained unreleased for almost five decades until the long-delayed 2017 issuing of her album "The Turning Tide". Maynard Ferguson released a big-band arrangement by Adrian Drover on his 1972 album "M.F. Horn Two". The Milli Vanilli song "All or Nothing", released as a single in 1990, has a similar melody to "Spinning Wheel", and was later the subject of a copyright-infringement lawsuit filed by David Clayton-Thomas.[23]
You wouldn't go wrong with anything off the second album of Blood, Sweat and Tears (named after the band). Especially You Made Me So Very Happy, God Bless the Child, and And When I Die. Can't think of another "Spinning Wheel," but the Dead have a great song called "The Wheel" which deals with some of the same ideas. Every time that wheel turn round, bound to cover just a little more ground.
And When I Die was written by gem Laura Nyro. Peter Paul and Mary first recorded it (1966) and then Nyro (1967). Blood Sweat and Tears’s version (1969) is the best known-it was a huge hit for them. But Nyro’s version is gorgeous. She wrote so many great songs but was a shy performer. I was lucky to see her twice. Can’t overemphasize how wonderful she is.
The first BS&T album, before the David Clayton Thomas era began is outstanding in every sense. "Child is Father to the Man," it's called, and it features Al Kooper from Bloomfield-Kooper. Strong stuff. BS&T did many, many excellent covers of artists such as Laura Nyro, Traffic, Randy Newman, and others. Always very distinct from the originals, but also very strong versions on their own.
I watched the reaction on the other side being that the sound was removed. This was definitely live. You need to hear the studio versiin. The whole album called Blood Sweat and Tears is incredible. God Bless The Child is incredible. The biggest song on the album is You've Made Me So Very Happy. The other hit off the album was And When I Die. David Clayton Thomas has another iconic voice and Jim Fielder was one of my favorite bass players back in the day.
YOU DID IT! Thank you! I have dropping BS&T now for a while. Unfortunately could not hear it, so heading to the other site. There are so many more to check out. Their cover of God Bless The Child will blow you away!!
John Lennon - "Watching The Wheels". Journey - "Wheel In The Sky". Old Crow Medicine Show - "Wagon Wheel". Both Peggy Lee, and James Brown covered "Spinning Wheel", also
Great song and great band! David clayton Thomas is the lead singer. I always loved their music. A little rock and a little goodness Great music from a great time period.
Hi Jamel, David Clayton Thomas is the lead singer of this Canadian band. I think you will like another BS&T hit - You Made Me So Very Happy. It really showcases his vocal range.
Shame it got blocked. You are the only ture reactor on YT Jamel. When I saw you react to Whiter Shade of Pale live in Denmark I watched it again and looked at your face. Keep going, keep the faith Jamel
Lead singer is called Adam Clayton Thomas. A good Canadian Boy - I've posted before asking you to react to them. Try their Lucretia McEvil or Go down Gamblin'
I think these guys had a couple of big hits.....and I remember first hearing them in the late 1960s. Tower of Power ( 'You're Still a Young Man' ) .....and then later Chicago all had that sound of the brass. Tower of Power began in the bay area I think.
Wonderful!!! This was playing yesterday morning in my local supermarket (in Italy) and I was very probably the only person singing along behind my facemask!! Thanks, Jamel! Great choice. Have you reacted to Vanilla Fudge's "you keep me hangin' on" yet??
An underappreciated classic you should look into - The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's "Faith Healer" - They were an early Glam Rock band out of Scotland in the 70's and are tragically under appreciated. The band The Church also did an incredibly tasty cover of that song.
I listened to this the other day and though, Jamel would love this. Before I could even check if this is already on the channel, here it is. I can't remember any songs with that title. There is "Spinning the Wheel" by George Michael, but I don't think that has been done on this channel.

There was the band Steeles Wheel that did "Stuck in the Middle With You." Plus the Journey song Wheel in the Sky that many have mentioned.

I like live music from GREAT musicians it can't be beat, sorry. You dont need flawless.
I agree with everything except the studio recordings. I'd only suggest that if the quality was very bad on the live performance. This one was stellar.
I agree about the studio versions. Add to your list their cover of Sympathy for the Devil, and also More and More (I like it for the horns).
Every last recommendation is right on time! If I had to pick just one, it would be "You've Made Me So Very Happy". But I love them all.
Absolutely the studio version was great and a number 1 hit!
Another good one by BS&T is "You've Made Me so Very Happy"
Yes! Love that song.
God bless the child! David Clayton Thomas still makes me cry!
That was one of my father's favorite songs, was my parents wedding song.

Terrible under-rated voice. Under-rated band even. These guys were awesome!!!
“Big wheel keep on rollin’, Proud Mary keep on rollin’. Rollin’. Rollin’. Rollin’ on the river.”
These guys had the same producer as the band, Chicago did on their early music. His name is James William Guercio.
I had the sheer pleasure of seeing them Live about 30 years ago. It was amazing.
Folks, you can watch this all-time classic on Jamel’s patreon - just scroll down below the membership stuff. Love the brass section in this band!!!
"God Bless the Child" written by Billie Holiday is the song you want to check out next.

Shame it got blocked. You are the only ture reactor on YT Jamel. When I saw you react to Whiter Shade of Pale live in Denmark I watched it again and looked at your face. Keep going, keep the faith Jamel
It's OK Jamel, I can hear this tune in my head just from the video. And I can tell you're digging it!
Lead singer is called Adam Clayton Thomas. A good Canadian Boy - I've posted before asking you to react to them. Try their Lucretia McEvil or Go down Gamblin'
My bad actual name David Clayton-Thomas (have my son on the brain)
@@rickfortier8664 you know u can just delete the comment and re do it :)
Oh yea, great song. If you like this, you will probably like The Ides Of March singing "Vehicle"
I think these guys had a couple of big hits.....and I remember first hearing them in the late 1960s. Tower of Power ( 'You're Still a Young Man' ) .....and then later Chicago all had that sound of the brass. Tower of Power began in the bay area I think.
ToP is from Oakland.
They had the same producer as Chicago did on their early stuff, James William Guercio
You have to do Lucrecia McEvil... Another great Blood Sweat and Tears tune..
The cream of the crop when they quietly morphed into Fire and Rain.
Here's another great song. "Mr. Bo Jangles" studio version by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Enjjoy
Please listen to the studio version. It's the full version and it will knock your socks off!
Check out the studio version. This one was shortened, and didn't have the same feel.
This one is missing the horn solo.
Their first album and best IMO - Child Is Father to the Man. More blues rock with Al Kooper singing lead. “I Love You More Than You Know”
Wonderful!!! This was playing yesterday morning in my local supermarket (in Italy) and I was very probably the only person singing along behind my facemask!! Thanks, Jamel! Great choice.
Have you reacted to Vanilla Fudge's "you keep me hangin' on" yet??
'Go Down Gamblin' - Blood Sweat & Tears
An underappreciated classic you should look into - The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's "Faith Healer" - They were an early Glam Rock band out of Scotland in the 70's and are tragically under appreciated.
The band The Church also did an incredibly tasty cover of that song.
One of my favorite bands growing up!!!
For some reason I could not hear the band playing.
May I suggest some Jazz...specifically "Take Five", by Dave Brubeck. And also some John Coltrane and Miles Davis😎
One of my favorite songs.
Their version of Ride Captain Ride kills. Also; God Bless the Child, And When I Die.
When people talk about great Canadian talent People almost always forget David Clayton Thomas & Gino Vanelli ....
I listened to this the other day and though, Jamel would love this. Before I could even check if this is already on the channel, here it is.
I can't remember any songs with that title. There is "Spinning the Wheel" by George Michael, but I don't think that has been done on this channel.
Glad you heard this.they kick ass.all about the soul with this group.you got to be good if ya got a tuba in the band.
