Her love for Nicola Walker is so fantastic. Both Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax are superb shows with amazing women characters.
Because they are both written by a woman who understands the subtleties that make Yorkshire people the way they are, Sally Wainwright is so undervalued as a brilliant writer!

She was also in The Paradise on BBC1. Which sadly only ran for 2 weeks. Available on DVD online
I love how she took her time and just savoured the moment. She didn’t try and race through her acceptance speech and stumble over her words like most winners. She enjoyed it and took it all in.
Not only a great actress, she also has sense of humour! Super happy for her and for one of the best series of the season Happy Valley!

Jo Schwartz I agree. I don't live in the UK so, sadly, I wasn't familiar with her work before, but I happened to buy Happy Valley on DVD, and I was simply amazed with her performance. I really couldn't believe I didn't know anything about this English actress. Hugely talented is an understatement for this lady. She has my utter respect. Bravo!!!

Greetings from Australia......After binge watching the first 2 seasons over two nights recently I can honestly say her performance was some of the best 'realistic' acting I've ever seen....amazing cast and writers but Sarah really took it to a new level. I'd never even heard of Sarah before but will check out her other stuff. Can't wait for season 3 !

It's so awesome so see Sarah Lancashire speak in real life, outside of character. I've only ever seen her in strong, super confident roles. I'm here after watching her play Ruth Goddard, one of the district nurses in Where the Heart is. After her heavy Yorkshire accent in that show, it's a strange to hear her speak in RP. Well deserved award. 🙏💓
Thrilled for Sarah, she is an outstanding actress and deserves all the praise she gets. I think the whole cast of Happy Valley give award winning performances and that's what makes it so fantastic. Can't wait for season 3, 4, 5, and on. Hugs to all from the west of Ireland.
Wonderful actress and seems a genuinely lovely person. Hope there is a 3rd series plus some more from Last Tango In Halifax. Which leads nicely on to Sally Wainwright, who indeed deserves huge plaudits -- even with the grittiness of HV, there is some real warmth in the characters.

Yes, she is one of only a handful of actresses who made the 'leap' from Soap to 'proper acting', Only Katherine Kelly and Surrane Jones, have done anything long lasting and substantial, though saying that Sally Lindsey did do a Sky Comedy and is in 'Still open all hours' but aside from that, hardly anyone else has had enduring careers other than 'guest star' in the likes of Casualty, Heartbeat, Midsommer Murders et al, just proves how different Soap life is to other forms of the craft!

Only recently discovered happy valley and Sarah lancashire and can honestly say she is a superb actor she plays the part down to a tee. Can honestly say i've never watched someone acting and honestly looked believable.

Sarah Lancashire is the best actress I have ever had the privilege of watching in one of the best written series that has ever graced out tv screens, binge watched the whole series recently and was gripped all the way through.!

Personally I feel she should have won for the first series of Happy Valley. Everybody expected her to win for the first series but didn't, either way she is brilliant in both series.
Just watching the classic coronation street episodes from 1992 at the start of Sarah's career as the ditzy Racquel. She's certainly come a very long way from there! Congratulations Sarah.

As brilliant as Sarah Lancashire was, I was so disappointed for Claire Foy who I thought was marvellous in The Crown. Hopefully she will be rewarded next year. It was lovely of Sarah to mention her though and her reaction was so charming! :)
I'm glad she won it. That role was extremely demanding and 'gritty'. More effort than sipping tea and looking pretty 😀

Three of the actresses nominated were from the North West, Foy, Comer and Lancashire. Astonishing talent in the North West. Nicola Shindler from Rochdale of Red Productions has won 11 BAFTAs and Granada studios the most awards of any TV company in the whole world. Truly remarkable.

I just discovered this program on Netflix just a few days ago. I watched it around the clock. I’ve seen every episode and I’m really bummed that season 3 is on hold because the writer is bogged down on other projects. I did also binge watch Last Tango in Halifax.
